laptopexplodingIf there's anything Sony doesn't want to remember in the history of its notebook battery production, it's this year's outburst of some really bad news: A Dell notebook with a Sony battery caught fire in Japan.

Lately, it's not only Fujitsu that has announced global recall for Sony's batteries. Lenovo/IBM has joined the ranks of Dell, Apple, and Toshiba. As we know, three airlines have already put a restriction against laptops being brought in the airports and planes as a result of another Lenovo ThinkPad bursting into flames at a Los Angeles airport just last week. And yes, it's because of Sony batteries.

A quick estimate of Sony's losses will amount to US$ 560 million, out of its expected US$ 1.1 billion profits in half this year. That's US$ 340 million for a global recall of some 10 million lithium ion notebook PC batteries and US$ 220 million worth of price slash for the PS3. Unfortunately, the figure could rise further if the PC vendors or consumers take legal action against Sony. So put two and two together, and we're watching 560 million of 'em greenbacks slowly burn to ashes.

Last week, Sony has already planned to consult with OEM customers for their own battery recall. If your battery is a Sony that hasn't already been exchanged, it's best to watch out for news from your notebook manufacturer.

I have begun to hate sony since the PSP seemed to drop off their radar. It is beginning to turn to ***** because sony just created a console then stoped everything else with it and turned to PS3. The only improvements most psp owners see are ones they despise ---- more "Protection" to your system.

» the reason psp is failing...

the reason the psp has begun to fail is because idiots are bootlegging psp games. at least give the *****in console at least 2 years before you start obtaining games illegally, support the console for a while, get its profts up, keep the game companies interseted in creating games. but no, stupid idiots start illegally running games in the first few months of the psps launch, and they have the nerve to ask, "why is the psp dying?" its cuz of you mother *****ers thats why, ask yourself the question, "why bootleg games?" and see if you can get a logical and reasonable answer out of urself. how would you like it if someone stole somethign from you that u took years to make, something that u felt good about doing, soemthing that u put all your hard work into? you would be pissed and wud not want to make anything again for fear that the same thing is going to happen. well guess what idiots, thats whats happened. congratulations , youve crippled and entire console in less than 2 years, good work. idiots.

oh and @3,

"Down with the evil sony coperation"

wtf, the only evil corporation out their is Microsoft, they have been evil since the first day they started, and if you guys dont know why (and dont know how microsoft came to be so rich), then you dont deserver to bad mouth outher companies that have no evil intent whatsoever.

well that concludes my rant for todai, i suspect many people will be calling me a sony fanboy after this, and guess what, i dont give a *****, u can say what u want, ive said what i want, if u dont wanna know the truth, then dont read, and i dont care what others have to say about me if its negetive.

» Why

This has nothing to do with gaming or ps3. They should put this in the laptop section rather then here trying to fuel the sony and nintendo fanboys.
