Seiko Epson Develops Pocket-Sized Fingerprint Reader |
Ó
In today's security-conscious climate, a product like this one from Seiko Epson should have no trouble finding a market. Seiko Epson is a Japanese firm that is focused on providing manufacturing, marketing and sales support to corporate clients worldwide. The new product currently under development by the company is a revolutionary portable fingerprint reader that will provide an unheard of level of flexibility. According to reports, this wafer-thin sensor (just 0.2 millimeters in thickness) is sensitive enough to recognize the faint electric current emanating from a persons fingertips.
Using other already available technology, security personnel can determine the significance of the finding and whether or not a match is present. The miniscule size of the new fingerprint sensor also allows it to be used in places like wallets and credit cards that were previously thought to be too small to take advantage of such technology.
Imagine the possibilities... From smart wallets that keep track of everything from your account balance to your cholesterol level to fraud proof credit cards and IDs that eliminate the need for invasive security checks in public places like airports, this product could very well change the security world forever. For those interested in placing a pre order for the device take a number, Seiko Epson plans on commercialising the mini fingerprint sensor by the year 2010.
