Samsung Drive - Image 1Samsung Electronics has announced that they've created the world's fastest 256 gigabyte multi-level cell (MLC) solid state drive (SSD) which uses a SATA 2 interface. So far this is the thinnest drive with the largest capacity to be offered with support for the said interface.

The device has a sequential read speed of 200 megabytes per second as well as a sequential write speed of 160 megabytes per second. This makes this MLC based 2.5 inch drive 2.4 times faster than a typical hard disk drive. In addition, the drive is extremely portable measuring only 9.5 millimeters thin with an area of 100.3 by 69.85 mm and only consumes 0.9 watts in active mode.

No word yet on when these drives should be hitting the market (or how much it would cost), however, it seems worth the wait considering how much data you could carry on these devices.
