Rumor: Xbox 360 HD DVD drive will drop to US$ 49.99 |
Ó
With HD DVD's supporters leaving the sinking ship, it seems only a matter of time before the format will no longer be seen in the market. Still, if there was ever a time to stock up on cheap hi-def movies, now would be a time.
Given that, how much would you pay for an HD DVD player for the Xbox 360? According to a Microsoft mole, it may soon be available for US$ 49.99. Quite a drop from its original US$ 179.99 price tag.
The mole spilled the beans to Ars Technica at the 2008 GDC. The mole is supposedly a very dead-on source of info. He has a track record that includes advanced pictures of the Xbox 360 Arcade system and the news of the HDMI-equipped consoles.
Still, we have to bear in mind that this is still a rumor. It's not so far fetched since Amazon offered a deal on the player only recently. We'll have to wait for official news on this, but it wouldn't be such a bad idea to have a checklist of HD DVD titles you'd want to buy.

We won't fall for that.
It's not a rumour, I can get it for that price where I live. and it's been dropped across the board.
FIRESALE !!!!!
Can I really spend $50 on useless hardware?!!??
I might buy it because it would be cool later on to have a player that died out ages ago, like beta-max, thats awesome, but it was beaten by VHS.
If it goes down to MSRP of $50, which means you could get it even cheaper (maybe $30) I'd buy it just to have it, maybe watch a few movies.
