Rumor: major retailer in the UK dropping HD-DVD? |
Ó
Even with Blu-ray discs getting stolen, it seems that some stores still want them on shelves. According to a blogger on PlayThree.net, giant retailer Woolworths experienced "virtually non-existent sales" from Blu-ray and HD-DVD, but the latter will be taken off the inventory.
One of the store managers, as the blogger claims, gave word that the company has placed both high-def formats on trials in their flagship stores. Sales have been poor, but Blu-ray started to earn some profit after the release of the PS3. HD-DVDs, on the other hand, still aren't selling.
Sony's format is expected to sell more this Christmas with HDTVs invading more UK households. However, the competing high-def DVD will be dropped entirely by Woolworths - if the store manager's words hold true.
Woolworths have been around since 1909 in the UK and expanded to become one of the biggest retailers in high street locations. While known for products aimed at mothers and young children, offering exclusive support to Blu-ray should prove to be quite significant in the format war.

so when's the funeral? better send some flowers to the HDDVD Group. come on Universal smell what's cooking and go Blu Ray!!! the sooner this format war ends the better for everyone!!!!
Another smack on HD-DVD's face !! Come on Mr Common Sens, spit your venom....
Do you realize that he doesn't come around here anymore? E3 must have scared him off, I mean, Sony did own the place
The Blockbuster, Target and BJ announcements, Woolworths in Britain, JBs in Australia. The world is turning bluray exclusive steadily and surely. An avalanche is coming
Lolers Avalanche
Im sure that Mr Common sens is to busy doing a date rape or washing his grand wizards robe and gathering the kkk. I dont understand why his racist remarks dont get erased from the message board. Also Im kina sure his mouth cant keep up with the pace of the ps3 and how much it rocks as of late.
HD-DVD......OW3N!!!!!!!!!
OW3ND!!!!!!!!
woolworths may have been going since 1909 but its losign money by the day. Im guessing whoever wrote this isnt from the UK as this deal means pretty much nothing, hardlyanyone goes to the one in my town and they dotn go here for dvds games or anything electronical. If they got a deal with HMV a major film retailer then this would have been news
He is like a nad diseases if you call him name he will flood the ps3 forums. Anyway yea i wonder how he will take this news, claiming it to be false with his BS rants and rave on how xbox is still superior. What a waste of a brain, or sperm, why does he live. He is just as bad as Xman. Well Whats thats old classic song i believe it went like this " Hit the road and Jack, don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more. Hit the road and Jack Don't you come back no more" Yea thats it
Being from the UK, Scotland, I can tell you that whoever wrote that article is not from the UK, as if he/she were they'd know that absolutely nobody shops for multimedia in woolworths and they are constantly loosing money in competition with other stores of a similar nature.
Hi Guys, Actually, I've lived for two-and-a-half years in the UK (mid-2000 to 2002-end), and I can say this based upon observation: Even though Woolworths might not cater to the high-tech device market, they do keep movies. Also, I do know that ladies, teens and kids and several parents in general do buy things - including movies - from there. So any parent or individual buying HD movies will be restricted in choice to Blu-ray movies by this move. And mate, if nobody shopped at Woolworths, it would have gone under long ago, like Tesco. Regards, MTK
Sony is actually paying for the discount store to run with bluray just like paying Target stores in the US for end cap displays. HD-DVD is paying for end caps in Circuit City and Best Buy stores so Sony is trying to do the same...
I find it funny that sony fans can be this pathetic. They are so far up sonys bunghole that theyre even cheering on the very same forced format that sony themselves shoved down their throats. And they call us the (x)bots! LOL Notice how non sony fans could care less, bluray or hddvd. We dont need to twist the truth like in this article just to get it to say what we want to hear. But I guess if I were blind to sonys control over you idiots then I would be scraping by on whatever positive news about the ps3 I could get too.
Applause....
You might want to try some self- critisism..only then you will realise that you are another x-bot under the grip of Microsoft's 1/3 failing rate system.. And good luck selling your Hd-Dvd addon (or player) on e-bay...you will need it!!!!
they never even owned. so dont say it owns now
1) Xbox is in first place, so its far from a failure. 2) I dont own an HDDVD add-on because I wasnt forced into buying one.
I read that and laughed. At you mainly. Pathetic, nobody cares what you think or what i think
