Well, despite efforts to reconcile the two opposing formats, it looks like a winner may be declared after all - by the adult movie industry nonetheless.In any case, the adult entertainment industry holds an annual get-together of its own which coincides with the CES. Now, if one is to recall the old war between Betamax and VHS, it has to be noted that the VHS won because the adult industry preferred it over its competitor.
When asked why they preferred the HD DVD better than the Blu-Ray, companies such as Pink Visual and Bangbros have pointed out that Blu-Ray is just too expensive. According to the spokesperson of Bangbros,
Blu-ray has superior quality, yes, but HD DVD is easier to produce, cheaper to produce and there are more HD DVD players in homes than there are Blu-ray players, for example in the Xbox 360.
Meanwhile, Pink Visual's complaint was that "Blu-ray discs cannot be replicated", and other companies also agreed that the sheer cost of producing their movies on Blu-Ray does not make it a good candidate as a possible HD solution for their line of work.

most porn 'movies' are very 'short'(no pun intended). The run between 1 hour and 1:30hrs in average. It's obvious that they don't need BLuRay discs.

umm, their statement on blu-ray players is false.
there are 1 million + PS3's shipped and 800,00+ sold while only 130,00+ HDDVD players are sold. So their statement that there are more HDDVD players because of the 360 is false, it is actually vice versa
altogether the cost for both hd and blue ray disc player is high so alot of people dont have it. so one way to choose which format to use can be decided based on 360s and ps3s sold. The hd would be a great option because of the cost of 360 however u have to buy the hd player seprate which is about 200.00 dollars more out of your pocket while ps3 has bluy ray installed from the start for which is convient for high def and is a great cost for a blue ray player compare to 1000.00 to 800.00 dollars. also a bonus for both are they a gaming systems.
In my opinion ps3 is better because blue ray is better resolution for about same as a 360 and hd player drive. and even though more people are buying 360 they want more bang for their buck so in about a year ir more the sales will pick up.(also many people have 360 i even have one because it was cheaper than ps3 and i wasn't waiting to buy a system with next to releases and the prices being very high). But in decision for better quality for less is ps3 and once its pr ice drops and people realize and its core is really tested with new games andothers things it will fly off the shelf again including many blueray movies

to the person that said vivid is deciding to consider blu ray for better protection..thats one thing blu ray lacks on. its very easy to scratch since there not layered correctly, its just single layered. on the otherside hd dvd is dual layered which allows it to have better protection, and the plus point in which i believe hd dvd will have better sells is, hd dvd has movies out now that one side is dvd other is hd, which was a great idea because it gives consumers to still buy the dvd and use it on there regular players, and when they decide to get a new player (either hd dvd or blu ray) the edge would go to hd because if i didn't have one already i would be thinking to myself ''well i already got movies that can play on hd, and it is cheaper''. hd also has a lot of features that i don't see on blu ray, but one thing that i would have to give to blu ray, is the movie line up since sony has produced a lot of movies, (but they also lost lionsgate now but anyway) i mean i wish they would produce them for hd dvd, all i have are just like 5 movies because everything else isn't worth it. the only reason i see upgrading though is for action movies, or anything with high suspense with special effects. Hmm... you DO realize that BluRay players can play regular DVD's as well right? The whole HD-DVD on one side and DVD on the other does not apply only to HD-DVD. It is decided by the film companies, if they decide to release it dual layered, then they can very well go ahead and do just that.
i favor blu-ray over hd-dvd. no reason but the fact that i just love the blu-ray movie collection and its space capacity and box design. Have some hd-dvd, but still love blu-ray. No intention of porn purchase whatsoever.

If you dont know, they already have fully working decryption software for HD DVD but none for Blu-ray.
In terms of surface protection, HD DVD is as protected as original DVDs, which as everyone knows, isnt that great. Not all HD DVD use a special coating like Blu-ray does to protec the surface, with a Blu-ray, you can run your fingernail across the data surface and you dont see a scratch.
the price differnece between BR and HD DVD isn't a factor. A dual format HD DVD is in fact more expensive than a BR disc. And that's from Toshiba's mouth.

Both formats can be single or dual layered. More or less layers do not make a format more or less protected. That's just moot!
As for features, Blu-Ray clearly has more features than HD-DVD. Complete Java implementation with full upgrade-ability standard on all Blu-Ray players, allows for near limitless potential for snazzy extras on discs. This is why Blu-Ray players are currently more expensive than HD-DVD.
Blu-ray actually have better protection than hd physically... blu-ray have a hard layer of protection that protects waaaaaay better than what hd-dvd has.

history lesson... betamax was FAR (and i do mean very, very far) ahead of vhs as far as av quality. did it matter? not one bit. why? because the porn industry backed vhs. since then, home-based medium adult film sales (vhs/dvd) have grown by leaps and bounds every year since their inception.

However if you are thinking... "Hmm I want to watch Hi Def video" will you truly consider which player plays porn? I doubt it. Fact is the porn industry is huge on DVD format just like it was before on VHS and if this news is true the winner is decided.
we are both half correct. it had a lot to do with royalties putting off publishers (sony is known for being rather sticky with stuff like that), but porn backing vhs is what sold the volume of hardware that manufacturers look at when deciding which format to adopt. this caused more hardware manufacturers to adopt vhs, which caused more studios to produce media, and so the cycle goes. so, in short, we're both right, in nearly equal amounts, but neither wouldve happened without the other.
when it comes down to it... business is a numbers game... and porn makes for one hell of a stat pad for any emerging format venture to use in it's efforts to win hardware/studio support. a few hundred million software sales do wonders when it comes to selling a format to hardware manufacturers and other studios, porn or not. they dont distinguish what is porn and what isnt on the bottom line, and the bottom line is all that matters.
Every so often we come across an article that in-itself generates numerous postings {from both sides}. The idea this subject matter adds another left turn branch is usefull.
The debate or market war over format choice will be an on-going battle. As a duplicator we see all the above issues.

capacity and longetivity are different things.
movies will look better if it is on a large capacity disc. even regular cd with a mere 700mb can hold 8 hours or more of movie/video but that wont be pretty. blue-ray has enormous advantage over hd-dvd on paper. hd-dvd relies on hd compression created by wmv (MS) but blu-ray does uncompressed full size 1080p movies, so if blu-ray uses compression like mp4 it will save disk space and have more extras, yes it can hold even some language dubs of the same movie. as always in the entertainment world - bigger, faster, meaner is better. and there are more ps3 owners than double the nerds that bought the extra hd-dvd for their xbox/pc. most people dont bother for such an upgrade that cannot be used for gaming. on ps3 its included so everyone that has ps3 is automatically a blu-ray user, they can easily opt to buy a bd movie or not, nothing lost! but if your on xbox360 and want to watch movie you have to buy the hd-dvd add on for 200 bucks which only good for that.
I think this site was paid by microsoft, since when does a movie company mention game systems as a reason why they make their format decisions. If it was appropiate to do so they would've mentioned Ps3. More PS3s sold, more Blu-ray players sold, get it. The person that wrote this article is saying it as if its the other way around as if the hd-dvd add on for 360 has a high attach rate. I don't think so. Blu-ray will win, no doubt because from the boost the ps3 will give it.

The author took a very casual and non-scientific survey to come to his fauly conclusion. He managed to botch at least one piece of information (number of Blu-ray VS HD-DVD players sold was all wrong):

Blu-ray movies outsold HD-DVD by a 20% margin in december. There is no f. way, that Blu-Ray loses this time around. There are MORE installed players, MORE movie content already on the market, and A HELL OF A LOT more movie content to be released on blu-ray.

Let's not forget a couple of important things:
- There are standalone HD-DVD playes and Bluerray players. HD-DVD players are the same price as the "cheap" model PS3. They have also sold way more than BR players. Japanese companies also produce them so there is simpathy for HD-DVD in Japan.
- I have heard conflicting versions of who is selling more movies.
- A lot of studios talk crap about only supporting BR and then release HD-DVD movies.
- Toshiba is the winner with HD-DVD not Microsoft. Microsoft of course would love for Sony to lose to Toshiba.
- A BR player for the 360 would be as simple to make as the HD-DVD player. Once again I remind you that Microsoft doesn't want to help Sony win the format war so that won't happen unless it becomes necesary.
- There is still a big possibility that none of these formats will dethrone DVD.

As for the article, information is power. The porn industry is too busy draining *****es to pay close attention to specifics of the format war. For example, the 360 comment is laughable because they don't understand that the 360 didn't come with HD-DVD, it's an add-on (I see where the mistake could be made seeing as Blu-Ray was standard in the PS3). The cheaper to produce for comment, I'm not sure about that, so I can't argue it's validity. But duplication can't be done with blu-ray, isn't that a good thing? WOOOT... anyway why are you arguing just because one unit sold more that the other that one will be better and will be the "CHOSEN FORMAT" and the other will go down... have you guys realized that some companies already are making players that can play both formats? and if HD DVD is the choice of the PRON industry then it has been decided... 3 laters later when all prices goes down, then that's when its gonna make a difference to the industry and the consumers...

This is quite retarded news, here is why: The Xbox360 DOES NOT COME WITH A HD-DVD Drive, so I hope they took that into consideration...
In any other case, these aren't the movies that sell alot of copies anyhow...they get corrupted to the internet...

Blu-ray = Good movies, storage, protection(in a few ways)

Doesn't the Blu-ray format belong to Sony? If so, I don't think Sony would allow Microsoft to make an add-on for the 360 that supported their disc format. But even if M$ could... Why would they create an add-on supporting their opposing format? They would trying to get Blu-ray out of the market so HD-DVD becomes the main HD disc format.

I don't think microsoft did it but... Microsoft know that the weak point of the PS3 is the faild of blu-ray so. Maybe... yes maybe, Microsoft make a push on this Porn co. to choose HD-DVD just to start the flow?
Blu Ray on the PS3 HD-DVD on the 360 the buyers of this stuff will properly either not know about them or care about them.
That is why the Blu ray factor does not really come into it,it's all about the independent players that will decide and if it's true that porn decided last time I see no difference this time.
And as for download porn thats just stupid apart from the stigma surrounding it,the downloading time and poor quality it's rubbish compared to the HD_DVD they can just go hire/buy down their local video shop.
Sure there is maybe 800000+ Ps3s sold. But Every HDDVD addon drive sold is being used of only for moveis. They cant bank on PS3 numbers, becasue there is no way of knowing how many are being used for movies. And FYI, Hd-DVD is outselling 6to1 and will have a under $300 player out for summer.

The studio(Bang Bros.) who made the comment is internet and subscription based, they may make DVD's but it's only a few percent of their total sales. Also for the people who say Japanese Porn is in HD-DVD don't depend on it since Blu-ray currently has 96% of the market share for hi-def discs. Also stop swearing and arguing you just look stupid, make good well researched statements, not ones that say what sort of homosexual act you will do to whatever company because you don't like them.
Anyone arguing on here been in an adult store? They got DVDs now that sell for over $30 and $40. There may be some people willing to spend on these for their extra features and interactivity, but what will the industry end up charging for their HD versions? Are there really people out there ready and willing to spend upwards of $50-$60 just to 'rub one out'? For that kind of money, you can do more than just 'Do It Yourself'...
