On Blu-ray This Week: November 26 to December 3, 2007 - Image 1
This week's Blu-ray releases are vastly different from the previous weeks' big batches. Last week, we saw the Die Hard series, plus a smattering of other titles from other genres. This week, we've got a smaller batch of titles for your Blu-ray home entertainment systems, but don't worry, what they lack in quantity, they make up for quality.

We've got some variety: two animated Japaneses flicks, a classic based on Richard Matheson's novel I Am Legend and a psychological thriller. Let's check them out.

You might have seen the trailers for the upcoming Will Smith movie, I Am Legend. Well, Charlton Heston's The Omega Man is based on the same novel by Richard Matheson (it's the second movie adaptation of the novel) and centers on the last man on Earth, Neville. Imagine staving off insanity from prolonged loneliness and a horde of infected albinos who are out to kill you. And that's while trying to find a cure to save the human race.

The next one on our list is more recent. It's an animated sci-fi movie based on a novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui of the same name, Paprika. Its basic premise is pretty much like the PlayStation Portable game called Crush (no, it doesn't concern an insomniac). Scientists developed a psychotherapy machine that enables the user to see other people's dreams. Trouble starts when the machine gets stolen.

The other Japanese animated film is entitled Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, an adaptation of Mamoru Oshii's manga, Ken-Roh Densetsu. We meet Kazuki Fuse, a member of the military police. He had shut down his human emotions to become a more effective soldier, but this changes when he meets a former bomb courier (nicknamed Little Red Riding Hood) in the film.

Whew. Anyway, we'll have more for you next week. In the meantime, here's the list of the releases for this week's Blu-ray titles:
  • Paprika (Sony Pictures)
  • The Omega Man (Warner Bros.)
  • I Know Who Killed Me (Sony Pictures)
  • Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (Bandai Visual)
