Microsoft: We stand by HD-DVD (ignore all those Blu-ray rumors) |

It can be recalled that around January last year, it was suggested by Microsoft's Peter Moore that the company might be willing to adapt to consumer needs. He hinted that the Blu-ray drive might be a possibility. Well, back then he was "overridden" by Microsoft. The company noted in a statement:
Microsoft firmly stands behind the HD-DVD format as the best choice for our consumers. As we've said before, we're confident that HD-DVD will bring the excitement of high definition movies to the consumer faster and at a greater value.
Well, Moore was overridden a year ago, and in light of Niel Thompson's comments last March and Peter Moore's "Xbox 360 flexibility" comments at CES in January of this year, it seems that Blu-ray support is again, getting the boot. Microsoft notes in it's Gamerscore marketing blog:
We firmly stand behind the HD DVD format as the best choice for consumers. Current reports indicating that Microsoft has a back-up plan, which includes Blu-ray support are incorrect. WeÂ’re fully committed to HD DVD and have absolutely no plans to support other optical formats.
Perhaps Microsoft should handle this PR problem at the root, and perhaps they should talk to their execs and tell people like Xbox UK Boss Neil Thompson to refrain from saying things like "Whatever format wins it is highly likely we will offer a solution."
That way the HD DVD Gods (the ones that hate that bloody hex-code) won't get angry at them.

If they wanted to make a BD add-on they could. It doesn't mean that they will. But all it takes is a firmware update and a new device to plug in and BD is possible.

LOL - So true - Not much content at all; on disc or on PSN.
So much released this month on XBLM

The war is only focused in America while other regions have already declared Blu-ray victorious.
Microsoft says they wont support Blu-ray for the same reason they denied the Elite. They want people to continue to purchase the add-on.
If word is released that the Xbox360 is getting a Blu-ray add-on, then there would be no point in purchasing the HD DVD add-on since HD DVD has lost all of their major exclusives.
I foresee by the end of the year a Blu-ray add-on announcement due to the piss poor sales of HD DVD. One of the other reasons for not making it official, at this time, is declaring Blu-ray the winner in the US.

BetaMax came out strong because of the almost double storage capacity, but the quality and speed were always a problem, along with a higher manufacturing cost (same problems with BR). But in the end VHS won due to Hollywood (and yes, the porn industry) choosing it for its better picture quality, and cheaper manufacturing costs.
A lot of you are quick to call a winner, but it will take at least two years before the results are in. Yes, BR may be in the lead as of now, but thats because the majority are still using DVD. BR has the Porn industry, but that isnt a factor anymore like it was in VHS BM days, the majority of it is done via internet now.
If history is any indication, then the victor will be HD. But it could also be BR, it can go either way. But to call BR the winner now is very shortsighted. Vietone, I dont know where you get your info that BR is the winner everywhere except North America, because here in the UK Bluray is not selling too fast. Mainly because everyone still uses DVD. Wait two years before declaring victory...

that's what you guys keep on saying... and thought two years is too long to wait for a winner????

Because if you remember the ps2 was not doing well for a year...then a world domination was the final page in the history of that...
I think that you need to worry no more about this... Blu-ray is here to win HD-DVD is left behind very early with no come back options and hopes what so ever, and when the new line of BR players arrive with a much more affortable price tag then HD-DVD will kiss you goodbye.

And to ... sure, ps3 is the winner, whatever you need to hear. Concidering that its in 3rd place with just over 3mil sold (more than half being in NA), its a real winner alright! Boy, you fanboys are something else...

Built in Blu Ray reminds me of a all in One cheap stereo system, it will always pick up a bit of noise from the other components whereas separates will always be near perfect..

What a classic vietone line there. Hmm wasn't there 200,000 dedicated HD-DVD players sold so far compared to only 30,000 blu ray players?
"The war is only focused in America while other regions have already declared Blu-ray victorious."
That was something disney said a couple days ago. Idiots like vietone get info from exclusive blu ray supporters, companies with billions of dollars invested in the format. Would they tell the truth?
"I foresee by the end of the year a Blu-ray add-on announcement due to the piss poor sales of HD DVD. One of the other reasons for not making it official, at this time, is declaring Blu-ray the winner in the US."
Nobody gives a rats ass what you forsee, because you are never right about anything. You never even post anything on the PS3 forums where you belong.
Near the end of the year is when HD-DVD players will begin selling for under $200, which is when DVD began to really take off. If your retard fanboy brain had any business sense whatsoever, you would realize HD-DVD's price advantage will make it much more consumer friendly and more studios will migrate to the format once it's consumer adoption rate begins to climb.
BARELY ANYBODY OUT THERE NOW EVEN HAS HD MOVIE PLAYERS. 3.2 million PS3s worldwide + 30,000 dedicated players? That isn't s*it! So the format war's over huh?
Nobody will ever declare blu ray the winner in the US but the blu ray association, and everybody knows how full of s*it they are. They declared blu ray the winner after selling more discs for 2 weeks. Yeah, lots of credibility there.

though I do think the DVD format with the least volume will not be around as long as the one with the most volume, common sense dictates this.
I'm waiting for those 1TB C3D's which have either prolly changed their name or stopped production
