XrossMediaBar - XMB - Sony Vaio FW - Image 1

Considering that the XMB won an Emmy award (get ready for a mouthful: "The Emmy Award for Outstanding Innovation and Achievement in Advanced Media Technology for the Best Use of Personal Media Display and Presentation Technology"), you can't deny the fact that the graphical user interface of the PS3 and PSP is indeed making waves... LOL, did I just make a pun there?

Now, Sony's announced that they'll be incorporating the XrossMediaBar up, down, left, and right into their latest line of Vaio mobile laptops, the Vaio FW series. This line of notebooks will have the new Media+ software that uses the XMB interface.

To further sweeten the pot, you can hook up your PS3 or PSP to the Vaio FW, via DNLA server. Now how's that for interconnectivity? Throw in that Bravia too - its V4500 HDTV series also has the XMB, y'know.

good one alistar.... thats intersting... i never thought that woud happen... is this like gonna replace windows, or is it just gonna be an extra thing, like windows media center?

by Justingraziano - 2008-07-16 09:11

» Errr...

You do know that you access the internet to post here. So, internet acronyms are appropriate, yes?

by GW2 - 2008-07-16 09:58
» what?

the xmb is the best interface ever. it just plain works. simple, to the point, fast, good looking and fully functional and expandable. i dont see how its depressing?

by GW2 - 2008-07-16 10:01
» no. no they arent

this is a blog. not a chat room or an IM or a forum. and i have to agree, when im reading news i dont want lol's and rofl's. its annoying and gets in the way of reading a well punctuated article.

» ..

hopefully somebody hack it to make it so you can do to all computers.

that would be freaking sweet.

by digicron - 2008-07-16 10:58
» ..

it will not replace windows. it will be like a media center type app im sure. sony would not drop going with windows, you lose 95% of your market by doing that and thats a big cash cow to give up.

by lexcavaj - 2008-07-16 11:16
» maybe..

im guessing its going to be like hp's quickplay where (on older laptops) you can play dvd's and other media even without booting into windows... make sense right? saves time from booting vista.

by BananaFish - 2008-07-16 11:47
» eh?

I have to agree with GW2, the XMB is such a simplistic idea and it just works so well.

by Strongbadunit2 - 2008-07-16 14:13
» well

It doesn't matter to me, but I think they should sound more proffesional. I mean they do have a large following and they should want to sound somewhat smart. But what ya gonna do ;]

» empc

is there anything better on other consoles?

before you mention 360 dashboard, they're actually scrapping it with an update. Therefore, it is OFFICIALLY a crap UI.

The new 1? looks unclear an dull.

» lol

is l33t, so wtf b? bury me a G blood

by na2rul - 2008-07-16 15:36
» hopefully

sony makes a new bd player with an XMB interface. But otherwise, i will be tempted to buy the newly anounced europeon(confir med?) 80gb ps3 as my media player

by kupomogli - 2008-07-16 16:04
» I personally like the 360 dashboard better

The 360 dashboard is the same as the XMB, except for the fact that the interface looks nicer. Instead of centering on a single option, you can see a list of options.

While I love my PSP, I just don't like the XMB. Looking at the XMB options it centers whatever you're on, and you can see part of one above and part of one below.

360 example:

Option1

Option2

Option3

Option4

Option5

PS3/PSP example

Option1(half)

Option2

Option3(half)

» hey

you can se 5-6 options at a time on the ps3/psp systems.

by emcp - 2008-07-17 05:44
» first

of all its emcp

second of all, i dont own a 360, so im not a fanboy and just ditching the xmb, if anything im a sony fanboy

also yes its good, i used to like it due to its simplicity but ive gotten to bored with it

and sony should at least give their consumer the ability to change the menu, just like CTF (CXMB)

it can still keep the simplicity but just modify it a bit, instead of just changing icons

thats my argument

and while their might not be a better interface else where it doesnt mean it should be left

second of all just because a UI gets updated doesnt mean the previous was crap

the xmb got updated with custom icons, does that make the original crap???

seriously thats something a retard would say, or a 2 yr old

by na2rul - 2008-07-17 08:32
» its good and all

but maybe it should walk my dog too and read my mind. oh the dissapointment
