JOYTECH Control Center

A product seriously vying for a space in your living room this November will be JOYTECH's Control Center. So what exactly is it? And why do I think this will be big? Well, first have a look at some pictures of the soon-to-be-released thing.

Now what's so special about a white box with a million connectors at the back? Well, if you're like me, and thinking of buying all the three next-gen consoles while keeping the current ones too, this is just the thing you need. Courtesy of those connectors at the back, you can now keep all the consoles hooked to this thing, while it itself is hooked to your TV. What you can then do is simply switch between the inputs when you want to game on a certain console. Also, don't forget that you can connect all your other TV-related stuff like DVD Players connected to it.

Here's a part of their launch info:

Once the Xbox 360 is connected to the Control Center 540C, users have access to an additional four HDTV ready component video inputs, five composite video and stereo audio inputs, five S-video inputs and four digital optical inputs alongside a corresponding matched output for each input connection, allowing for a broad and extensive range of equipment to be permanently connected to just a single input on the users TV, display or sound system. Additionally, the Control Center 540C features a six port Ethernet LAN Hub, providing a reliable connection to Xbox Live and other network devices. Furthermore, the front panel of the Control Center 540C houses an additional set of S-video, composite video and stereo audio inputs allowing quick and easy access for camcorders or game consoles.

Now whichever way you look at this thing, it offers a lot of bang for your buck. And speaking of bucks, this isn't that expensive either. The Control Center 540C will be available in Europe and North America from November 2006 and will retail for a suggested price of £89.99 and $129.99 respectively. My suggestion: start saving!

Useful

I'd really like to get this.. It would be perfect for all my consoles, etc. I wish it was a little cheaper though.

nice

Its the only switch I have seen that includes multiple optical inputs. the one I currently have has the component, composite, S-video, even the Ethernet, but I need something with the digital optical.

also not mentioned in the article

the Control Center has a special cable included for the 360 hookup. if you look at the back photo you can see in the input for the 360 on the far left hand side.

lol

Okay, this already existed for $35. And the one I bought has a remote to switch between inputs, in case you are too lazy to get up, like me. It's called the Intec Wireless AV Selector and I got it at my local EB Games. Here's an ebay auction of it. http://cgi.ebay.com/G8618-INTEC-Xbox-360-TM-V-Selector_W0QQitemZ160033455161QQihZ006QQcategoryZ41017QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem Yeah, they want $60 there... But I got mine for $35 at EB Games. $60 is still a hell of a lot cheaper than $129. And for $150, you can get a truly awesome component hd selecter on ebay with really good ratings. I see this failing, despite the QJ ad.

not the same.

you can get the intec model, sure. but this one has a 5-port 10/100 hub, and a dedicated 360 connection in addition to 4 regular AV inputs, with component and toslink/digital audio. most av switchers dont have HDMI or more than 2 component connections, or digital audio, etc. it's a niche product, for a niche consumer market console gamers. sure you could do the same thing with any component av switcher or av receiver, and a hub on your net router, along with several long eth cables from your router to your TV if you have more than one device, etc. it's not really a replacement, the intec. i looked at the photo on newegg.com, it doesnt have anything better, except a drawer for the remote + game discs. i cant imagine cheap plastic drawers will make it a better product.
