Grad student creates Head Tracking set up with Wii remote |
Ó
Using a Wii remote and the sensor bar, Lee managed to replicate a virtual environment that lets the TV monitor display objects as if you are looking into a real room, with realistic illusion of depth and space in real time. It might sound confusing at first, but once you see the video, it's pretty simple to understand.
The set up surprisingly didn't cost a lot: all it took to create the amazing potential gaming experience was a Wii remote, the sensor bar, a pair of glasses with LEDs, and some software that he's created.
Just so you know, Head Tracking technology is currently being used in some flight simulators, lending a lot of realism in the virtual flying experience. In this era of next-gen gaming, it's a bit surprising why this impressive technology hasn't penetrated the console gaming yet.
After watching Lee's remarkable presentation, which you can watch in the video below, we at QJ will have to echo his words, addressed to Wii game developers: We wanna see some games with this innovation!

This is the coolest use of Nintendo technology (or at least Nintendo's take on ancient technology) I've ever seen!
cool concept and nice execution
I can soooo imagine this for Metroid Prime! Or Twilight Princess! Whew. That'd be wicked cool!
lol, nintendo should have been doing stuff like this way long ago, but they prolly haven't cared to develop it since it was already selling. Or they don't play with their own console enough to find out new things about it because they only play with the marketing charts. Great job finding this stuff out, now it would great if someone made accessories just for this sort of thing.
Of course he's Asian.
You can download the program on his site, meaning all of us can do this (might wanna mention that in the article)
Anyways, I have seen a fiew youtube videos of people who got it to work, but it always either crashes on me, or gives me a weird error. (I have tried it on 3 pcs so far)
think of the stuff nintendo could do with something like this, its not hard for them to make some of them glasses, and then say in the manual put your wii mote in front of your tv, THIS IS A GREAT IDEA, i love the idea on the football stadium, that was the most amazing thing iv ever seem, his tv looked like an actual box i on the target thing. im going to have to get a blue tooth adaptor for my laptop to try this out
3:50 to 3:55 = LOL!!
