e-paper

It seems as though the whole world is turning into electric this and electric that...the good ol' fashioned ink and paper may become a thing of the past with the invention of the e-paper. Fujitsu has invented a super lightweight display screen that will display the daily news as well as other information. It can all be downloaded onto this screen. It is done in a similar manner as how radio signals are exchanged; “contactless smartcards”

The e-paper is made of a film substrate that is ultra thin and withstands slight bending and flexing without distorting the image. The e-paper is also very energy efficient as it uses one-hundredth to one-thousandth of the energy used by other display technologies. It has a vivid color picture that is just as good as any LCD's screen we have today and when turned off it retains the image due to a built-in memory function.

This invention has so many great possibilities that it will revolutionize how information is accessed as well as presented to the public. Currently the product is still in the early stages but Fujitsu hopes to have it out to the public between April 2006 and March 2007.

But still pretty cool, this IS a great idea and could be awesome for the environment. Newspapers could be just downloaded read or students at school could have like 1 piece of this stuff and a keyboard for their work.
