Disney president blasts HD-DVD backers |
Ó

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment president Bob Chapek had some harsh words for HD-DVD backers, saying that those in the HD-DVD camp are prolonging the format war even though it is clear that Blu-ray will win. During a two-day Blu-ray festival in Hollywood, Chapek said the following:
Blu-ray's competition's attempts to sell less than the best will inevitably be trumped by what we stated from the very beginning: That the Blu-ray technology is not a half-step format that will sell consumers short, but rather it is a revolutionary technology that will change the way we view movies for the long term.
And we firmly believe that revolutionary technology, my friends, is indisputably, undeniably and inevitably Blu-ray.
Chapek wasn't alone in chastising HD-DVD backers. Fox's home entertainment president Mike Dunn earlier this week blasted Paramount for switching to HD-DVD. Dunn referred to the rumored US$ 50 million payout that Paramount supposedly received, accusing the studio of "taking the bait".

Buncha corporate nazi's anyway... cry the same sob story to BETAMAX who technologically surpassed VHS in many many ways but still lost. Don't care care who wins the dvd war... proly find another format anyways before anyone "wins" at this rate. I just commented cuz I don't like Disney :)
Disney Is Backing The Winning Format Of Right Now, Im Not Saying Hd-dvd Cant Make a Come Back But as Of Right Now Blu-rays Wiping The Floor With Hd-DVD
Is this guy on something?
Anyway what he said is definatly correct based on the sales and appeal in Blu-ray format against rival HD-dvd...
The Disney and Fox CEOs need to STFU because they would have done the same thing if they were losing. This just exposes them as the whiney babies they really are. I have yet to even watch a blu ray movie on my PS3, because nowhere near my house rents them and there isn't anything good enough for me to buy (as in I'll watch it more than once.) Maybe I'll get Spiderman 3.
I'm pretty sure that the market and the products have changed enough for this situation not to be ablte to be compared with the VHS - Betamax war.
So please, drop that already...
sure its selling more in software, but stand alone units hd dvd players sell more currently. So maybe the PS3 is responsible for increases software sales?
orly.
the ps3 is responsible for that.. and they tell everybody that nobody can't count the ps3s because is just a game machine... anyway... I just want this war to over but is more far than over...
they're in denial that hddvd is losing so there will always be people mention the betamax.......that was like centuries ago...
I buy them and watch them A LOT. And yes, there are tons of Blu-ray movies that are worth buying. Already a lot of movies for Blu-ray are coming on the 50gb discs which is needed to get the quality correct along with all the extras. To bad Paramount had to take the wrong road. Also people criticizing Disney and Fox for speaking out have no reason to talk trash. Disney and Fox didn't have to say anything to be right because they are doing great with Blu-ray. Some of the best quality content have been from Disney on Blu-ray with lots of extras and Blu-ray exclusive stuff.
I'm just curious where you live that there aren't any to rent.
Also, Netflix is better for this stuff since you aren't paying more for movies that would typically cost more.
Standalone Blu-Ray player sales are catching up to HD-DVD players. So that argument will go out the door soon. Not that it really mattered, It's obvious that Blu-Ray sales will benefit from PS3 sales which are much higher than stand alone players for either side. HD-DVD should just throw in the towel and stop causing people confusion and money with the two formats when Blu-Ray eventually wins and all those people will have to buy a Blu-Ray player and also keep their current HD-DVD player to be able to play the movies they bought for the damn thing. It's time to stop this "TOSHIBA" It's not goos for the anyone.
thanks to that controversial $50million deal, others are suffering, companies in particulr.
It simply prolonged the format war
You must've had a very deprived childhood to be saying that you don't like Disney. Either that or you got molested by Mickey Mouse or something. lmao lol lmao lol lmao
I own a PS3 and a 360. The PS3 is my first blu-ray player (just as the PS2 was my first DVD player) and so I will want a blu-ray writer (when they drop in price) for my PC. So yeah - PS3 pushes up sales figures but so what! I only have two blu-ray movies at the moment (both free with the PS3) and I'm keen to buy more (three titles I'm waiting to release).
Sure - the quality difference isn't anything to write home about when compared to DVD until you hook it up to a full hd display...and then it just shines - Wowawee!!!
Anyway - HD-DVD may offer the same quality boost but right now I don't care because I already own a blu-ray player.
Let's just see what happens over time...but for now I'm backing Blu-ray.
Correct me if i'm wrong but this $50 million paramount was bribed, ( Bribed may be a strong word ) to stick with HD DVD, was'nt that until March of next year? I thought I heard that somewhere.
I'm telling ya, Blueray and HD DVD are going to be like DVD-R and DVD+R. Combo players are dropping in price. You can get one for 700 bucks, which was about the price of a Blueray player a year ago. I know that it is cheaper to buy two standalone models at this time, but what happens when these combo players are $300.00? I bet it will only take about 2 years before they drop this low, and believe me the format war will definately last longer than that with Paramount on the HD DVD side now.
Well yes, but due to layer size of the bluray disc, in the end the blu ray disc will be the dominant one and hd-dvd will be forgotten.
Because, honestly now, if you're gonna buy a disc writer for you PC, what would you buy, the writer for the disc with the higher storage capacity ofcourse.
