Disney CEO "makes bed" with Blu-Ray |

High-Def Digest recently disclosed the transcript of an investor call with Walt Disney Company CEO Robert Iger, wherein he made his, well, unequivocal support for Blu-ray: "We made our bed with Blu-ray because we believed in that format for a variety of reasons..." Iger lays it down: "the single greatest thing we can do now is not to waffle" in the middle of the (so-called) format wars.Speaking about which, Iger believed that it was that format war, plus the high price point of the players, that was holding back Blu-ray's market performance, but he's willing to predict that those price points will come down by Christmas season. And the other thing he wants to note is that (as far as he can see) the format war really is confined to the US: "In other markets where next-gen DVD is starting to penetrate, Blu-ray is winning, and substantially; so much so there isnÂ’t even a perceived format war."
One of the things High-Def noted of Iger was the guy's "aggressiveness" in the digital media market - example, being the first studio head to embrace iTunes. And now Blu-ray. Wonder if the "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" home video will be out in time for Christmas?

Let me ask you a question. Have you purchased one of those $500 HD-DVD players?
Have you ever watched an HD-DVD? I am really curious to know the answer to that question.

Did consumers ask for memory sticks? What's wrong with SD, compact flash, MMC, or Xd? Then they release multiple memory stick versions that are incompatible!
Did consumers ask for mini disc? That failed everywhere but Japan.
Did consumers want movies on UMD? Aparently no. Sony was even going to try to release music on UMDs at one point (a feature in 1.52 PSP firmware). Yeah, they are that stupid and arrogant.
The only good media sony ever invented is the compact disc, and they should have stopped there.
Did Consumers ever say HD-DVD sucks, I wish sony would come along and make something different so that some movies would not be available on the player they bought and there would be another format war and everyone basically gets screwed in some way so sony can try to make more money?
Yet you are cheering them on.
Yay! Go sony! Keep it up! Do it again next time too! We like getting shafted as consumers! Make sure you sell us an overpriced movie player disguiesed as a game console too! But it's not overpriced, it's such a value; it's a 10 year investment, if somebody doesn't buy it it's because they can't afford it yeah!
Fox, one of the biggest blu ray supporters, already tries to control the media via fox news, and if anybody thinks that's a legitimate news organization, they need to get their head checked. It's obvious fox is using their manipulative influence to convince consumers that blu ray is winning a format war that really has not even started.
If people don't hate sony for that, they should, especially the way they and the blu ray association are trying to force the market rather than let consumers make the choice. A couple months of better sales cannot make a blu ray victory ,nor can a few more exclusive studios.

Or even find a 20 GB PS3 for the same price?
Dumbass. You're either lying or are at the only BB in the country where that's occurring.

You forgot one thing, though! You would have a total of $900 into your movie and game setup. Your $400 XBOX is undeniably cheaper than a PS3. But you will also have $500 into your HD-DVD player. On top of that if you want to use HDMI for your XBOX. Well, you get the idea. At least I hope so.

And what is with the anti sony rant fanboytastic.... Dude... Sony has been trying and trying for years to be INNOVATIVE... That's what makes the big money, coming up with something new. Some of them have failed, some have been wildly successful. But if you don't want to buy it, don't! How are they shoving anything down your throat?? You don't have to buy a ps3, or a bd player... Hell, you can keep watching dvds forever if you want... But there will only be one choice in high def movies, and its bluray...

So is HD-DVD.
Live with it.
Sooner or later one will win - for now shut the F**k up all of you!
This is a PS3 site, what are all you PS3 haters doing on here?
Clearly you all have nothing better to do, otherwise youo wouldn't be on a PS3 site complaining.
You don't like Blu-ray, fine go complain somewhere else.
But for those of us who do, we don't want to hear you babies complaining your a**es off over what Format wins - hello!
IT'S STILL DAMN EARLY!

You almost got the PS3 Site only right.
PS3 Haters are here because "XBots" get flamed all the time for just owning a 360.
I mean, I'm just checking out Gadget and read the comments. I own a 360 and a HD-DVD player. I do not own a PS3, I have 1 friend who has a PS3 and I have 14 friends who own at least one 360 and 3 of them own two or more.
I mean I got a 360 first out of my friends because I stood in line 19 hours for mine. (I waited 21 hours for a Wii) and I ALMOST waited in line for PS3 to sell my spot in line. (But then I would have been tired as hell for the Wii Launch.)
I play my 360 at least 3-4 hours a day, I own 13 HD-DVD titles, and I go to Fry's Electronics and their HD-DVD library holds around 65+ Titles of HD-DVD and around 55+ Blu-Ray titles. (The Fry's in the Renton area has a frozen PS3s that never seems to want to work, Its NOT ONLY a Demo/KIOSK unit, it also has a Retail PS3 there to play, but never seems to want to work correctly, been man handled too much)
But yes, It is pretty early.
Buy what you want to play, and if its readily available *like for me* to get HD-DVDs for cheap or Blu-Ray for cheap, go ahead, either way you have a 50/50 chance that your format may be rejected. (Hell, we may even have a 3rd format sometime later.)
Time can only tell.
