Console war: peace not good for market |
Ó
In the business world of Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, it's long since believed that war is good for the market. In fact, the shorter the war, the better for everyone else. One of the biggest quirks of a technology war is that there's always going to be something better that will come along in a short while. Because of this, companies have to know which particular technology people side with so that they can build on it.
However, with a war as huge as this generation's, we see a lot of consumers sitting on the fence, waiting to see who will win. As much as this is a good strategy, the market will suffer in the long run because developers and companies would be waiting to see what happens as well. It's like everyone's watching two samurai sizing each other up before they attack. In the end, no one moves and everyone leaves the samurai still staring at each other.
A war that ends quickly would put companies in a better position to plan for their next step, even if their own technology loses. The longer the war, the longer they have to wait to make the next move. The longer the wait, the more expensive the war becomes for everyone. Even waiting is expensive: companies lose money by not participating in the war as much as placing their bets in. Strategically, a shorter war may be the best way to move forward.

1st x360 sucks
halo 3 , bioshock, gears......................all broke my 360 im getting my 37th one in a week.........for a billionaire, our god does make cheap pieces of shyt......
a $400 360 only cost $320 to make
while a $600 ps3 cost $900 to make...............
i love my quality ps3, and it plays awsome games, and stunning movies and i have 4000 songs on it and i got tons of pictures and later ill be able to use it as a tivo and i can run linux on it...............the ONLY problem ever is that when in computer mode it only works on 256 mb ram............other than that it is PERFECT
ps3 will win the war in the long run
you wont be able to use it as a tivo because it lacks the epg and RF connector port
My Predictions:
360 will get a huge boost in sales in the next few months, but will not do so well this holiday season.
PS3 will do a little better in the next few months, but will get a bigger surge by the end of the year. Early 08 will be the begining of the PS3's succes.
Wii will continue to sell out for the remainder of the year. Hype will end next year, but will still outsell 360 for a long while. Will sell as much as PS3 probably.
been doing it for years now... never gets old.
and i'm quite comfortable with my pick for this generation, the PS3, it has all the games i'm looking forward to (old established franchises and new ones too)... only game i really like that's not on it is Mass Effect and i could do without it.
and as a bonus it's a Blu Ray player too which for a movie guy is a good package, saves me the trouble of getting a stand alone player (either HDDVD or Blu Ray).
personally i think the Wii will have a stronger future with ubisoft & ea being thrown into the mix. and i also liked the article
Been next gen gaming for close to 2 years. Getting multiple demos weekly, 1 to 2 arcade games a week, a huge library of games to choose from and the best online gaming experience. Would only get a PS3 if the modding community did something brilliant with it. If I didn't have a 360 and had the choice I would still easily pick the 360. Sony has a lot of work to do. But now that i own a 360 they pretty much have no chance of turning me into a customer.
an XBox 360 my friend is if HDDVD wins.. i'll get the 360 (so that i'll get the gaming console) then get the add on.
if not then i would be happy with my PS3... together with a Wii and a good PC i think i'm quite set.
or if Final Fantasy XIII suddenly becomes 360 exclusive!!! hahahaha (before anyone reacts this is just a joke... it is not speculation or rumor or forecast or some other sh*it)
i love console wars...
there the main reason why i even come here.
Just buy a standalone for $60 if HD-DVD wins. That's probably how much they'll cost by then. No point buying a 360 for movies.
Not do so well this season? I have all the consoles and love them all, so no bias, and all the big games of this last quarter are on 360. The 360 is about to see its best holiday season yet, not one where it "will not do so well".
The Wii is also getting some huge games these next few months, including new Mario and Metroid games, and will outsell the 360 and PS3 for the foreseeable future. This gen will end with many more Wii sales than PS3
i didn't factor in how much players would cost by the time this war has been decided.
I dont really know why people even by the wii i had on for about 3 months and it got really boring and if you want to go play tennis or golf i dont see why you woudn't just go out side and play. I also think that the wii is for little kids or *****es
On Sam (Unregistered)'s part -- I'd have to agree. Because you can just enjoy the sunshine; playing golf, tennis, baseball etc. Or play these sports on PS3 or the 360.
On FarStrider (Unregistered)'s part though; I'd have to disagree. Because you need more than just Ubisoft and EA backing the system. You need the likes of; Square Enix, SEGA, KONAMI etc... So, don't take it personal. But I'm gonna shoot down your reply.
The Wii may indeed be good when it comes to S.Bros Brawl, Mario Galaxy etc... Though it is only the PS3 or 360 that can really bring out the true gamer. With games like; Tekken 6 [PS3], Halo 3 [360 Only], Final Fantasy XIII & Versus XIII [PS3 Only].
Even the DS seems to get more fans than the Wii.
yeh a huge libiary, and only a handful of good games.
but i have never been interested in tekken, i prefer soul calibur for arcade fighting.
halo 3 is the next big shooter (but why is a great question, the 1st was fun but wats different besides story and graphics?)
and final fantasy has lost me, i like the old ps1 games but the new are few and far from being as good in my mind. but i have not played any so they may be kik A$$, but $ is another problem...
u a ***** for console bashing sam
Stop your whining. You fully haven't seen Final Fantasy XIII, muchless Final Fantasy Versus XIII in action.
PREDICTIONS
PS3 - Despite a recent boost of sales, the PS3 will finish last this holiday saeason with the lack of games to compete with Super Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros Brawl, Halo 3, Metroid Prime 3, BioShock, and Mass Effect. I see a better 2008, though.
Wii - Crazy sales will continue. This ain't no fad, folks. The before-mentioned games will make give Nintendo a very successful holiday season.
X360 - Halo 3, Mass Effect, and BioShock will carry the load and will cause many people to buy this cheap breaking console. They'll finish 1st this holiday season, ahead of the Wii (in America) but in 2008 the Wii will take over.
So - -
2007 Holidays-
1. X360
2. Wii
3. Ps3
2008
1. Wii
2. X360 and PS3 (tie)
