According to website Blu-ray.com, Sony's booth at the on-going Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is showcasing two new Blu-ray players and has also something exciting to offer in the future for PlayStation 3 owners.

First, it was mentioned that players Sapphire 3 and 4 are currently on display and that the two are both carrying Profile 2.0 or what is referred to as BD-Live. For those not familiar with this specific profile, here are some of its standard features:
  • 64KB built-in persistent memory
  • 1GB local storage capability
  • Mandatory secondary video decoder
  • Mandatory secondary audio decoder
  • Mandatory virtual file system
  • Mandatory Internet connection capability
Also, it was revealed in the said booth that Sony will soon be offering a firmware update for the PS3 that will give players BD-Live capabilities. The arrival of the next system upgrade wasn't specified but this is certainly good news for Blu-ray lovers everywhere who own a PS3.
