Big storm brewing: Blu-ray HD-DVD stalemate over by 2008 |

In light of analyst Piers Harding-Rolls' earlier statement about consoles acting as multi-media hubs being the major factor for 2008, Richard Cooper, also an analyst, projects that the stalemate between HD-DVD and Blu-ray will also end next year.
The deciding factor in the Toshiba-Sony format wars will be one key player shifting the scales. Cooper didn't mention which studio it could be, but here's his full assessment:
Next year we expect to see shifting alliances, and with such a delicate stalemate, it's only going to take one major player to swap sides and the market will shift seismically. We believe this will happen over the course of 2008, with major players moving to format-agnostic or format-exclusive positions. Both formats must start to make an impact on the HDTV viewer next year if hi-def is to become more than just a niche market – we have seen hardware prices drop in 2007, but the battle over content in 2008 will be the year this storm breaks.
Cooper suggests that either camp should capture the market and its consumers "who are beset with confusion and apathy" by enlightening them on the significance of high definition.

there are games on the ps3 and next year will be an even better year. BUT, this topic had nothing to do with consoles aside from the fact that the ps3 is the cheapest blueray player on the market. it is what is boosting the sales of BR. that format is winning now and i have a feeling sony could finally win a format war this time around. consumers are a bit stupid, HD-DVD still has DVD in it and doesnt sound too new. BR sounds so..."futuristic" and blue is one of the most common favorite colors. i know it sounds dumb but very few consumers make technological purchases based on stats. its all about what is most flashy and new.

* Gears of War (90 points): Graphics! All you do is hide-shoot-hide-shoot-hide-shoot-(repeat this 9999 times more)
* BioShock (85 pts): Graphics & atmosphere! The entire game is only 10 hours long; no big reasons to replay

* Lost Planet (70 pts): If only a few things were right, this deserves 90 pts

* Warhawk (90 pts): Technologically and graphically mind-blowing, because the map is ridiculously huge, ground combat is terrible, but the air combat is groundbreaking; this is the real bomb so far, a lot of X360 fanbots I know are mesmerized by this game
* SingStar (20 pts): Ok, this new PS3 release is lame! The graphics is suitable for PS2 console
* Unreal Tournament 3 (45 pts): Terrific graphics with atmospheric layout; balanced map design, weapons and many more; seriously, the soldiers (characters) move around as fast as the hedgehog, Sonic!!!; really, the moving speed (of ground soldiers) is a joke (this takes all the fun); if the developers reduce the walking (running) speed then this is 10 times better than the similar game called Halo 3.
* Uncharted Drake's Fortune (60 pts): Luscious graphics! but the entire game’s 5 hours long; the gunplay is weak as hell; brain-dead enemies (LOL)
* MotorStorm (80 pts): Top-notch graphics and technological achievement! The maps are too big (if the maps are smaller, then we can see more car versus car actions – this is MotorStorm’s strongest point)
* Heavenly Sword (50 pts): Gorgeous graphics! but the combat sucks a+s; and the whole game’s 6 hours long (and repetitive); no reasons to play again
* Resistance Fall of Man (70 pts): when you look at things closely they are very ugly and highly pixelated; average graphics in general! mindless run & gun garbage
* Ratchet & Clank Future (fantastic! 90pts, if you’re mentally 10 year old): or 30 pts
* Ninja Gaiden Sigma (30 pts): Same as Ninja Gaiden Black (years old!!!)

@Khjar No they didn't do this on purpose, Sometimes superior hardware takes awhile to get games out. While they were plaining for the future with their system, like they always do, they knew adding the Cell and Blu-ray will benefit them in the long run. And they're right. And i don't see how this really talks about consoles it talks about Blu-ray and HD-DVD so please don't turn this into a flame war.

Since people have to register now it doesn't matter to me. Even i thought it was him at first but noticed the difference. Anyway its only a matter of time before this impersonator gets banned.
