During the Golden Age of the Abbasid Caliphate, some 12 centuries ago,
an Arab prince, embittered by a woman's betrayal, was determined to
slay his new bride, Scheharazade, on their wedding night. Scheharazade
cleverly delayed her demise by telling him a story which she stretched
on for three years - by which time the prince had fallen in love with
her. This collection of "stories within stories" are better known as 1001 Nights, and have been the basis of stage plays, movies, an opera by Russian composer Rimsky-Korsakov and a Broadway musical entitled Kismet. Its most recent incarnation has beein in the world of gaming, and has now come to Nintendo's Wii console. In this version, published in North America and Europe by SEGA® and given the working title of Wild Fire, will feature Sonic - their "blue dude with the 'tude" - in a new solo adventure in the world of 1001 (Arabian) Nights.
In this version, the final chapters are missing, and Sonic must recreate the ending. Settings will feature lush oases, swaying palms, ancient ruins and the vibrant geometric tile art unique to the Muslim world. Players will be able to control Sonic directly by tilting the Wii controller like a steering wheel, tilting it right and left, or tilting forward to charge into enemies and barriers. In addition, the main game contains a number of controller-focused mini-games that can be played alone or with others. "Sonic Wild Fire and the innovative Wii controller changes the way gamers play interactive entertainment," says Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of SEGA of America, Inc.
