blu ray is on crack

More blu ray movies sold in January because more were released. Most blu ray releases so far suck. The top sellers are Crank and Gridiron Gang. It's like sony die hards want to go down with the company. Sony's blu ray success strategy is, do not make any decent games until next year. That way to make the PS3 useful you have to buy HD movies. Release a whole bunch of movies right away after the PS3 is plentiful to try to get an early lead. Declare victory after one month of better movie sales. Instant success! Go sony with scandalous marketing! You're also forgetting HD-DVD has better codecs, features, picture quality, and PC compatibility. Oh blu ray has more storage. Blu ray movies are very wasteful of storage with ancient compression and wasteful uncompressed 7.1 audio.

I went to Target the other day and noticed a lot of Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies side by side each other with a comparison sign between them and after reading the unbiased facts listed on it, you would be a fool to go with HD-DVD. Don't even give me bull***** telling me that the quality sucks either because I watched a Blu-ray movie playing on a 1080p Sony Bravia LCD big screen at Circuit City and was completely convinced that it is well worth it.

Better codecs?

they both use the same codecs! they may not be standard but i've watched VC-1 BD movies and HD DVD movies. Neither of them look much better than each other. And for those extra features, care to list them? I for one do not believe any of these "features" are worth paying extra for.

I remember it being a way to make money and that it, and that all changed when GoW came out. Give it some time and things hopefully will change.

that BD is more expensive. Theres nothing better about either format except people like to feel that one is better than the other(except for maybe the movie selection depending on your taste) . I have a friend who believes BD will win no matter what and also believes its better in every way (which isnt even guarenteed so im quite amazed by his fanboy nature, shows the same thing towards PS3). However I am still sitting on the fence because BD camp has claimed sales catching up yet HD DVD claim they're ahead in overall sales. Neither of those numbers (neither of which are probably 100% accurate) are comforting in any way. In the mean time i'll be enjoying the few good BD titles that i have until something concrete is shown and agreed upon by both sides (as in impossible as it may be lol) As soon as MS releases an HDMI version of their 360 I will probably pick one up for the sake of the great exclusives and the most likely better versions of the multi-platform games. In the mean time i'll have to live with this drought of PS3 games.

if so you're a fool because all of the TV's arnt set up to look the way they should. They're all setup to have the highest contrast ratios and nothing else and that is how you get the TV when you take it home and that is most likely the case with the displays you see in the store.

Hardly anybody liked the xbox 360 when that was released, due to its high bugs and not so good launch line-up. The PS3 is being slated because of its high price, but we can easily see a drop in a few months due to cheaper blu-ray diode manufacture and smaller and cheaper 65nn chips being made. The PS3 has a lot of exclusives that people begin to forget about such as; Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Motorstorm, Final Fantasy XIII, Resistance Fall of Man, GT5, Getaway, Eight Days, Genji, Hevenly sword, Lair, Killzone 3, Ratchet and Clank, Ridge Racer 7, Untold Legends, Warhawk

Wow somebody said I have no common sense. I've never heard that before. Seriously, the PS3 can't succeed as a game console unless serious changes are made. There's no reason sony couldn't have a couple decent games out by now. Sony is just more concerned with blu ray succeeding then giving gamers what they want (it's the least they could do after selling 110 million PS2s to the same people.) Kevin is nothing but a tool, being used by sony to increase blu ray sales. $ony wants you to think, "OK I have Resistence and some mediocre EA games I'm bored with. I might as well buy some blu ray movies while I'm waiting for all those heavily hyped AAA games coming out, hopefully someday. Then I can still use it for something." Good luck being a tool Kevin. Maybe I can make money off you too. I have a new game console I'm selling, the Common Sense 1 or CS1 console. There's no games available yet, but I promise they're coming. Until then you can use the built in Betamax player to watch movies in glorious magnetic analog! Don't worry about games, trust me they're coming and they are good. It costs only $600, and with my hype campaign (using skills learned from sony) I can sell 2 million of them. Unlike the competition, only the CS1 has TRUE analog audio and 480i resolution. The competition is doing a disservice by not including the betamax player inside, since that is needed for gaming. It has the revolutionary "Compu Raster Advanced Processor" or CRAP inside that is superior to the competition. Once developers learn to utilize it's full potential in 6-8 years, the games will be incredible. I told investors I could sell six million CS2s in 4 months so they don't pull out their investments. Hopefully the lies won't catch up to me or the company will be finished (like sony.)

Just stop playing around and admit that Blu-ray is better. It has the same as HD-DVD and more, besides some movies that are pretty good, but when Blu-ray wins the format war, you will see those exclusives for HD-DVD slowly come over to Blu-ray. Another thing is that you should feel more cheated by HD-DVD and not like the idea as much as Blu-ray anyhow do to the fact that Toshiba is just trying to make a buck on lackluster technology when later anyway they would go with a similar format using a blue laser to make more data in the same space anyhow in 10 to 20 years or so just to make more bank off of you, don't you see that? It is all knowledge of science and if you understand that, why would you want the short end of it.

Blu ray exists solely because of sony. Toshiba was more than willing to work with sony on the next format like they did with DVD. Sony just wasn't happy splitting the money with another company so they decided to make their own media format like they always do. Blu ray and HD-DVD both use blue lasers! The data on blu ray is closer to the surface, and that's the primary difference. Blu ray has more storage but doesn't really take advantage of it with movies. The compression method is the same as regular DVD, with poorer picture quality and more wasteful of space than HD-DVD. Blu ray's 7.1 sound is very wasteful and uncompressed with no noticable quality difference over DD5.1. You have no knowledge of science or technology. I'm familiar with optical drives and I fix broken PS2 systems for side money. HD-DVD doesn't have the storage advantage, but everything else is better, and the discs are cheaper to make. Don't state opinions as fact please. That's what fox news does.

i think common sense is correct here. Sony used the PS3 to market their new format in addition to the 360 making an appearance a year early. You cant argue with me that the ps3 was rushed.... no doubt it was. Sony used the ps3 to push the bluray format. Nowhere can you buy a bluray player for $600. Even a Sony bluray player bottoms out at $999. All the games that everyone is waiting for are being launched 6 months to 1 year after the ps3 launch. what are you supposed to do till then? buy bluray. drive bluray sales up to lead the format war. then sony will drop the games on you. its a good scheme in the long run...but as a video game fan.... i hate it.

Not too many people were excited with the XBOX 360 when it came out (including me) because we were all waiting for the PS3 that was supposed to be so much better. Yes even I bought the hype surrounding the PS3 at first. I bought an XBOX 360 to try to resell for profit, then realized it was awesome and decided to keep it. I can always trade it in for a PS3 later, I thought. Then the PS3 finally launched and all I could think was, that's it? Where's the awesome cell powered next gen graphics? Where's the games? Why did sony make the Linux so useless and restricted? I didn't want to buy a blu ray player when it could be another betamax. Combined with all the stupid crap the CEOs say and the overall bad rap the PS3 had I decided I'm done with sony products forever. Also PS3Rider, a new cheaper PS3 cannot be released any time soon. Sony's got a lot of work to do to make it cheaper. Design, manufacture, and implement 65nm cell and GPU chips. Use software emulation for PS2 and PS1 games to eliminate the PS2 chip in the PS3. Find a way to make blue laser diodes cheaper. They basically need to redesign the whole thing from scratch. Since the PS3 took years to reach production, your prediction a new one will come out in "a few months" is rediculous. They have more work to do now than they did originally.

DD5.1 sounding just as good as uncompressed!

IF you had real speakers then you'd hear the difference or you could just not care. That comparison is like MP3 vs CD which sounds better CD. But who has good enough headphones to acually hear the difference, next to no one. There is a huge difference but you need the speakers to take advantage of it else you will hear no difference at all.

Internal External Explained

If you buy the HD-DVD and play films on it does not put any wear on the internal drive so even if it went wrong it would not affect your gameplaying One bit because its external. If you buy a PS3 and you play Films on it you are wearing out the same laser that is going to be loading games and if it goes wrong you have had it as far as playing games go because its internal. That is why external will win.

Sony has a good plan

Argue all you want, but right now Blu-ray is killing HD-DVD all around. External will win? I guess that's why DVD is so popular because the PS2 and Xbox had "external" DVD drives.... Right now, there currently only one major studio still supporting HD-DVD and that's universal and they're already planning to release on Blu-Ray next month so this format war is pretty much over. I think the funny thing is that "choice" is the reason why external will never win. You have the choice to buy the add-on or not but with the PS3 is already included. Since you're paying for it, you might as well use it. Sony have already proven that if you want to push a format, you need to include in a game system. The place where the ball was dropped was with UMD but that's wasn't even Sony's fault. UMD just made no sense. Lower Quality Video, much higher price than DVD counterpart, and the movie selection sucked ass.

I think its actually right... There is no sign at the moment which format is going to win the war so why bother buying at this stage. And its also right about the PS3. its a stuid price at the moment and i could understand if it was coming with games that looked far better that the 360...but the truth is most of the games are still going to be at 360 level and not fully use the power the PS3 has. Why not wait a while when its all cooled down and then sony will start reducing prices and start producing these groundbreaking games they have been talking about over the last few year. And with vista....too right! At the moment there is so much that does not run with vista. I have been running it since earily beta and i now run the retail. I still have no SLI support for my 3 month old graphics cards and had to replace a ***** load of software.. In a few months more support will be given and things will start getting better...no point spending out cash for something at the moment
