A Blu-ray enabled Xbox 360? A Blu-ray peripheral? |

Next Generation informs that in a BBC report, Xbox UK boss, Neil Thompson noted "Whatever format wins it is highly likely we will offer a solution."
WoW. Apparently, Microsoft isn't anti-Sony enough that it wouldn't offer a Blu-ray solution for their Xbox 360 if the format happens to beat HD-DVD. Well, consumer choice has been Microsoft's marketing game-plan in the last few months, so it only makes sense. It can be noted that Microsoft's enjoyed downplaying Sony's Blu-ray movie playback, and they've emphasized that unlike Sony they're not forcing gamers to pay for a feature they might not want.
Of course, if Blu-ray is ultimately what folks wants, it seems that Microsoft is willing to adapt.
The benefits of having high-definition movie playback optional for your console? You can come up with a peripheral for the format that wins.

The downside of having high-definition movie playback optional for your console? You cannot use the higher capacity-disks for games.

soon all free-to-air broadcasting will switch to Digital signals, and eventauly people will switch to higher Def TVs which are getting cheaper with every passing month
people who say Blu-ray is not important are the same who said that DVDs are not important and that CDs are enough
the need of bigger media format isnt simply about the Movie industry, this will be needed for games eventualy
we already have Lair with 4GB for a single Map,i wonder how big games will be within comiong 3 years
Evolution never stops,if evryone thought in this way...then we Would still be using CDs for games and movies
Heck....we may even be still using the VHS

No one outside PS3 owners care about Blu Ray or HD-DVD go look at the sales of independent hardware(any site you want even bias ones cant hide it) they have FLOPPED and DVD9 is still and will be for years the chosen format.

Xbox360 System 399 USD
HD-DVD 199 USD
Blu-ray 199?USD
Are you kidding me? that's more than the PS3 for a DVD only game system. That's for all you people that already own a HD-DVD addon.
oh, I only have one ps3 controller Sherlock. Yup, the controller that came with the system.

There is a definite lacking in HD media available for those of use who own big screen Plasma, LCD and DLP etc TV's, and HD-DVD/Bluray is just the thing to take advantage of our new systems.
Plus, in just a couple years once the analog SD broadcasts cease to exist, HD will be in even bigger demand, too bad you will still be an idiot.

1. Outside the PS3, Blu Ray standalone players are selling far LESS than the HD-DVD players.
2. There is NO war the DVD9 which is in almost every household in almost the whole world(and the 360) has replied and killed any HD-DVD/Blu Ray wannabes. Go look at the sales for DVD hardware, softwa re,Movies and Hire.
BLU RAY AND HD-DVD are going NOWHERE...

2. I don't give a crap about my old ass dvd's mine is collecting dust right now, and you forget to include the PS3 as a DVD player. The Xbox360 playing DVD's isn't worth bragging about. If you don't care about quality and eat crap all the time, then you won't mind that the Xbox360 is a crappy DVD player. That's is ONE of the reason why I return my Xbox360 for my money back.

But that won't happen until games actually need the capacity of an HD medium, and that will probably not be for at least 2 years, if not more, as even the newest PC games still fit on a dual-layer DVD.
Will have to see how big Crisis is, that will be the next big benchmark...

I agree with the part about rumble being overrated btw. I actually find it disturbing while playing games.

lot's of people already have a 360, which they bought to play games, now they only have to pay 200USD to watch HD-DVDs.
People aren't gonna buy an Xbox plus the adaptor just to watch movies when they could buy a cheap HD DVD player for 300-400USD. People buy consoles for games, not for HD movies.
And as far as exclusives go, we'll see at the end of May when Matrix drops on HD-DVD, it'll be months till PS3 fanboys can get it

Plus, Smallville being on HD-DVD actually HELPS blu-ray as heterosexuals will steer clear of it!
