If you've ever watched Minority Report and thought to yourself, "Wow... that touch screen interface would be amazing!", your wait may be comming to and end sooner than you think.  At the University of New York (NYU), a development team has had some fantastic success with the development of a touchscreen that allows multiple inputs at any one time, unlike the current touchscreens which only allow for one.  The current screen measures 36" x 27", is rear-projected, and has a sensing resolution of better than 0.1" at 50hz.  According to the developers, the unit is "force-sensitive, and provides unprecedented resolution and scalability, allowing us to create sophisticated multi-point widgets for applications large enough to accomodate both hands and multiple users."  The developers are excited by the functionality of the new Multi-Touch screen and will be working on improving the unit to allow for the identification of things like, which finger is associated with each contact.  The video is one of the coolest things we've come across in a while, and you can bet that everyone here is anxious for this unit to be introduced to the consumer market sooner rather than later.
