Shigeru Miyamoto - Explain The Name |
Ó
Kotaku released a video in which they sit down with Shigeru Miyamoto and ask where the name 'Wii' came from. In his native tongue (convienetly subtitled for American viewers), Miyamoto explains that he wanted a name that did not sound like a video game system in order to ensure that the system would appeal to a broad audience.
Miyamoto also makes the quotation figure gesture when mentioning the name 'Wii,' implying that they wanted the name 'Wii' to be a pun on 'We.' If you ask me, they could have came up with something less pee-pee related. Doesn't Mr. Miyamoto know that Americans have dirty minds?

I respect the idea... its like in the past.. we called almost every console Nintendo.. now i see Wii comming up... I dont mind the name. i dont want to offend anodie but ill let my opinion.
Those ho says Wii = wii wii or some other bad toughts. I find them stupid.. they say Wii a in we... and thatsit... if you think beyond that its mainly your problem. Maybe (again no offence) those ho thinks that wii = some bad word thinks like a child OR is a child. I doubt some of my US friend's parents woud think that the Nintendo Wii is a bad word and woud automaticly wont buy the console.
Again and i repeat AGAIN... sorry if i offended. It was not my intention.
I Find he name to suit it quite perfecly... because when ill get it...'
ill probably be going "WIIIIIIIIIII" when ill notice how Fun this console "wii"-ll be.
I agree with what you are saying, #1. I don't think parents will be offended by the name, but potty-humor obsessed kids , on the other hand, may make fun of it. The neighborhood bully may think the name of the Wii is silly and make fun of it. With older games, it shouldn't make much of a difference.
Go miyamot and Wii is awsome.
Eat people who Eat humans because they deserve it!
Um wouldent that eventualy destroy the entire human population if every one did that... lmao
That 1up was awesome. But yeah, everyone that is still hating on the name and Nintendo after they CLEARLY owned E3, I think they're just bitter their other companies came up short.
Everyone is starting to respect Nintendo. Sony is copying the technology and making Nintendog clone games for the PSP. And 360's head guy (I think he's the head) praised Nintendo Wii and said everyone should own a Wii and 360 for the price of one PS3. They also showed a kid game and when questioned why in the interview they said "We're trying to expand our market"
Hmm...I could have sworn someone else has been saying that for a few years, oh yeah, NINTENDO!
Owned.
Remember Pac-man??? in japan it was called puck-man but namco felt that when it was released in america that the dirty minded americans would scratch out the P and put an F instead.. Namco saw a potential problem and fixed it... Nintendo blindly created one because they knew that the bad press was better then no press... and sony anounced they will now be ripping of nintendo by releasing the Urination-station add-on..R Kelly couldnt be happier.
