Playstation 3 looking fresh: Sales double according to E3 announcement |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: Amazon, e3, industry news, Konami, SCEA, Square Enix

Following this news, Sony hopes to launch 11 million units by the end of the year. Some still express doubts though, saying that this boost in sales may not be for the long term. John Yamamoto of Square Enix, whose monumental Final Fantasy series was feared to move into the Xbox 360 for good, thinks that US$ 500 is still expensive for most gamers. And although Konami was not impressed by the price cut, rumors that Metal Gear Solid 4 will be moving to the Xbox 360 have been dispelled in the recent Sony E3 conference: it will remain a Playstation exclusive.
After the initial price cut, Microsoft started "Project Falcon" which improves the 360's performance and hopefully reduce its price tag as well. How this news will affect the rest of the industry now remains to be seen. Things seem to be turning upside down and inside out and E3 isn't even over yet. Stay tuned for more on E3.

IE:
Rank 1 + 33 sales
Rank 2 + 32 sales
Rank 3 + 31 sales
Rank 4 + 30 sales
Rank 5 + 29 sales
If the Rank 5 item had a 20% sales increase it's rank would jump 400%. I hate when idiot fanbois make the rest of us PS3 owners look bad.

Whats the big deal? This is only $20 more than the 360 elite..... u know the machine that MS made WITH HDMI and a bigger HDD that u said nobody needs. how do u swap the laser and DVD drive of the 360 again?
the 5 free movies arent that great.... but they compare to the 5 free HD-DVD movies that come with a toshiba player.....but thats a different topic.

I'll certainly bet that you are a biased 360 fanboy. Sony haters are getting more predictable and more petty every day. The price goes down, you whine. The system gets bundled with high-definition movies, you whine. The sales increase, and you say there is no sales increase. Where does this hatred come from? Why does it hurt your feelings to see another console making progress? Is it insecurity?

While it is good news for Sony that they were able to take first place for a little while its not groundbreaking news.
It isn't verifiable that they are doing twice as good as Xbox, because Amazon isn't publishing actual sales numbers, just the rankings. If Sony manage's to sustain the sales increase for a significant period they can get happy.
Passing XBox sales up by a few percent for a few hours isn't going to close the gap in installed base. I've got a PS3 and I enjoy it, but unless you're completely ignorant you aren't going to ignore the fact that XBox does have a lead and Sony needs to work hard to overcome it.
I'm hopefull that Sony has another price cut waiting in reserve because a price cut on 360 would torpedo PS3 sales hard. Sony is frankly lucky that MS may have trouble affording a cut right now.

It is updated hourly, and it still hasn't moved since it took the ranking. I never said the PS3 has toppled the 360's total sales to date, and I never said it would be done over night. The point is that the sales are making a notable improvement as a direct result of the price cut. It's just that simple.
