Peter Moore Responds to PS3 Pricing and Wii Philosophy |

It's almost a given that Microsoft officials were laughing with joy when Sony revealed the price of the PS3. Now, Peter Moore publicly says what's on his mind.
"Tell me why you would buy a $600 PS3? People are going to buy two [consoles]. They're going to buy an Xbox [360] and they're going to buy a Wii... for the price of one PS3."
As you can see, he echoes the same thought that many of us, including me, were thinking. This would especially be true of Microsoft dropped the price on the Xbox 360 by a bit by next Christmas and Nintendo launched the Wii at $200. He went on to praise Nintendo's strategy again.
"People will always gravitate toward a competitively priced product -- like what I believe Wii will be -- with innovative new designs and great intellectual property like Mario, Zelda and Metroid."
Currently, Microsoft is trying to do what Nintendo has and build up IPs while focusing on their main innovation, Xbox Live. This is what they hope will put them over the top and win the next generation console war. They definitely intend to win. This was Moore's statement to Sony,
"We have 100 percent market share of the next-generation, and their job is to take that from us. When I think on everything that we've got going right now that is real versus what Sony promises to do six, seven months from now, obviously we feel very good about where we stand."

microsoft might acctually take the lead in the next gen console race
This guy is a fool... he needs to stop commenting on the competition and start focusing on the 360...
Wii and PS3 have way better chances.
They are making some excellent decisions. Slapping a patent on there Live Anywhere feature pretty much gimps Sony of doing Cross Platform for a majority of titles. They can still do it from title to title if its not on the Xbox 360. But its absoulty out of the picture if the same game was on the Xbox 360. There other move, making contracts with developers to have there games get exclusive content via Xbox Live Marketplace was another great move. GTA 4 is just the first multiplatform title they plan to do this with. All of this doesn't mean crap to the Japan market obviously. It's a huge deal in other gaming countries. I commend them for using some Brain Power this time around.
This guy is a moron. I own a 360 and the thing sucks big time. The savior of the system is Halo and I was never a Halo fan. So lets see, the 360 puts out Halo and then the PS3 puts out what, 10 games that are as good if not better than Halo. C'mon man, sure the system is $600 but the 360 would have been the same if it included the HD-DVD drive. Plus, back to Halo, have any of you even looked at the sales of that game? 15 million worldwide between the both of them. Gran Turismo 3 has sold 15 million by itself. Also, EVERY game that is on the PS2 and Xbox, the PS2 version has sold about 1-3 million copies more. There is no next-gen race my friends, the video game was is equal to the same war between Windows and Mac's. I dont see Xbox lasting no more than the 360. Soon Halo will belong to Sony and Microsoft will find something new to try to take over.
Man all this talk about PS3 is crazy look sony told us last E3 about killzone and and the two HDMI ports and the new controller and this E3 they delivered. They gave us a playable KillZone :) , the 2 HDMI ports :) , not to mention the new boomerang controller :) Oh and last but not least they also promised us only one sku for everyone :) , so trust them when they say their live service is going to be FREE

The times have changed my friend. Sony is against the wall. Will it be successful & sell? Yep, it will. Will it be as dominent as the PS2 & PS1 were? Nope. Sony pulled a fast one on gamers & only the thick headed are not seeing that. Many of those that are Sony faithful kids.

I also love it when people come out and say "All I play on my 360 is Halo" Well to that I say you're an idiot. There's some really good games thus far for the 360 and it's hardly just a 720p halo box. It's a shame you're not a better "gamer" or else you might realize that. Saying things like "The savior of the system if Halo" (a game which is actually an XBOX 1 game) is baseless and silly, considering the only halo game for 360 is Halo 3 which was announced on Tuesday and TBA 2007.
And for the love of god, if you're going to compare sales numbers, you should really appreciate the fact that Halo 2 pulled in 15 million sales with a much smaller marketshare than GT3. I hope you have fun driving in circles, while the rest of us shot faces online with our buddies. I also don't see a whole lot of people playing that game so good point there.

back to my point i think sony is really not releasing the ps3 as a gaming console that can play blue-ray disc but the other way around, a cheap blu-ray play that can play hd games and enables you to go online. one more thing for all the ps3 fanboys including me that thinks that the ps3 online service would be free well the way things have been going its not looking like that will happen instead sony will under cut ms xbox live price, but in all i will still get the ps3 b/c its the console with the games that i want. just hope some of this fanboys will wake up and see what sony is doing (i've seeing the light lol)

Gears of War, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, saints row, Oblivion, Fable 2,Ninja Gaiden 2, Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Halo 3, and the list goes on. How on earth do you think halo will soon belong to Sony? First Sony would have to buy bungie from Microsoft which is highly unlikely.

i already own a 360, a great console, im going to buy a Wii when they come out (and after the first patch.) and then after the first price drop of the PS3 (probably in 7-9 months after release) i might get one of those if they get some actually INTERESTING games. this current lineup i see from the PS3 is lacking... well good titles. i see MSG4 and FFXIII, but im not going to spend $740 ($600 console+2x$70 games) to play just two titles.

Basically, you can get a XBOX360 and later the HDDVD adapter or a PS3 with Blu-ray, it wil probably cost the same.
Choose the console because of the games, but for me, its the one with better stuff in it (games are both good so its stupid saying, GOW will stomp MGS...senseless)

Complementing the competition. He’s kind of insulting to Nintendo actually. It’s like saying “We will take first and we’ll allow the Wii to take second” sure you will. They shipped (shipped not sold) 3.3 million so far Xboxes and they expect to sell 10 million in 6 months. BTW, 1 mil of those are in Japan collecting dust.
Let’s face it. MS biggest fear is the PS3. They know Wii isn’t competition, I am not saying it wont sell it’s just not a next Gen system (Next Gen means graphics and immersive physics hands down) that’s all. Wii won’t be in the same market (might sell more but is another market).
So why is Moore scared, the same reason why all the MS and Nintendo fanboys are coming out of the woodwork to trash the PS3.
One line says it all. PS3 is delivering in a big way this E3. A few key points:
* No PC on the market today is as powerful as the PS3 (go see the gamespot article on the PS3 for info. I am not lying PCs don’t even come close due to the multi core architecture that benefits greatly)
* Rumors that MS started which say that 360 and PS3 power are the same are being shattered at E3. I can’t believe some of you believed it.
* So many playable games at E3 is causing mayhem for the fanboys
* 95% of PS3 games look like CGI. Go read IGN and Gamespot impressions.
* Besides Halo MS has no real exclusive IP worth much.
* Sony world wide studios are now becoming a behemoth for game development. Grand Turismo, Rachet and Clank, Resistance, God of War, Heavenly Sword, Sly Cooper and many others
* Rumors that games can’t run at 1080P are again shattered at E3 (xbox can do only 740p, I wonder who started that rumor). Not only can they run they run at 60FPS
* PS3 adds motion sensing to the already best controller in the market. Moore: “What you mean when companies port over their games to the PS3 they will not only look better and have amazing physics but will also play better.”
* Many people bought the 360 because they wanted to enjoy the HDTV with gaming. “Say what! You mean that you can get full 1080P plus have the latest BD player (1k a pop) for a mere 599 or pay 499 if you just don’t have the money. “ That’s right
* PS3 is the leader and the leader always gets the most hate but then after they come and kick ass you start to realize “Hmm that’s why they are the leaders”. Why would you take the time to praise the leader he is already the leader! Only the losers must come out and try and somehow insult and add negative rumors.
* And last but not least. Why are people interviewing the man who led the Dreamcast into its dismay? No bigger clown in the industry.

He talks about thr $600 price tag. YOu know what i say. who cares. Have you ever heard of something called a job. I could make $600 bucks in less than 3 weeks. To me the wii is stupid. Im not into that stuff like the DS. ITs not time for that stuff yet. THey should have introduced this in there next console not this console. Then we will have pretty much reached are limit with hardware and then it would be ok to do that.

The Dreamcast wasnt a disaster, it was quite successful for SEGA. What brought the Dreamcast down wasnt the Dreamcast, it was the SEGA Saturn. (and piracy to a degree) Sega never recoverd properly from that disaster.

Plenty of people are starting to use the HD-DVD add on excuse to Justify that the PS3 high cost will come out equal as the Xbox 360. Um.... no? See, the thing is this. Microsoft feels that DVD 9's still offer plenty of space & flexiblity. Which they are indeed correct. As you can see with everygame so far. I See Sony including the Blu Ray with the system just to get more players in the homes of the buyers. Can Developers use the BD media to creat games? Of course they can. Will alot of them need it? Mostly no. Developers like SE, Atlus, etc, developers known for the RPG franchises can surly benefit from the extra space, as for guys like EA, 2K, etc, who are known for there sports franchises will not need it. They can continue to publish there Sports games on DVD 9's with some room left for whatever they want to do with it. I am very happy that Microsoft went the route of an Add on Drive. I like to keep my Gaming Systems & media Players seperate. This way, I can get a true player & not end up with a gimped one. Likes the PS3's (2X) Blu Ray Drive. As many are calling, the poor mans BluRay. I'll pass on the PS3 for now. $599 is to much for a console that clearly showed that it is not better than the competition so far. There E3 was very weak. This can change next year, so I would rather wait it out.
Notice that Sony execs never make these types of childish claims or insult their competitors or even start rumors. They might imply it but never say negative things directly because they feel they are better than that. It’s the feeling you get when you’re on top. Is really shameful that a company must trash the other to make itself look good. Fanboys I understand but High Level Execs come on. Reminds me of that psychology study where they found that most people who put down others is just because they feel bad about themselves.

I don’t know about Wii. It’s such a wild card. Sure it might be fun but it seems like a party game machine. I just can’t see as a gamer's machine. Of course they are targeting casual gamers but why buy a wii when you can just buy a board games, play free flash games and just play drinking games with your friends?
Furthermore, casual gamers don’t buy a lot of games (do you think those old folks in Japan will buy anything else after brainage? I doubt it). And if Nintendo loses any money on this machine in hopes to make it back in games, they might get into a bit of financial trouble. Even worse the control still needs a lot of work before they make to market. Have you seen the reviews? They're not too good. Nevertheless It's so crazy it just might work though

I like sony, microsoft (as a game maker), and nintendo. I have a ps2 and i think its cool. I also have a 360 and think its excellent. There is so much potential for this system. Such as downloadable or streamable (kinda better) tv shows or movies, best games of all time, and soo much other stuff. There might not be awesome exclusive games out now but there will be soon. I would love to get a PS3 but the price tag has driven me out. Also the fact Sony has been very sneeky with the PS3. At the E3 it seemed the only difference between the $500 and $600 version was the HDD but i learned the $500 version doesn't have HDMI (would like to have this if i get a good HDTV someday), WiFi (Need this as my modem is on the otherside of the house), and no Memory stick/SD/Compact flash ports (would like to have this to save my data and i didnt read that the HDD was removeable). There might be awesome games comeing up but most of them will be on Blu-Ray thus the games will prob be like 70 bux each. Also the controller doesnt have rumble (not a big problem just another niceity i would like to have) The Wii will have a cool controller. And will be very cheap. The graphics might not be good but the gameplay looks cool. PLUS u can access all the old Nintendo games. I'm gettin the Wii.

I consider myself to be truelly unbiased. I buy every system and enjoy the best games on all of them. I don't care who "wins" as long as the competition keeps bringing the best games my way.
But the sony fanboys are really making me want to see Sony get slayed in this gen, you see I know they will survive either way but you people are just really blind to reality.
To honestly think that what we have seen of the PS3 so far is anything that blows away the competition is intentional blindness.
Sure some of the games looked good, but nothing was so good that it left the 360 behind and the lack of inovation was appaling! Where the hell was that Killzone demo we saw last year! LIES! They lied to us with a FMV! Nothing we saw at E3 graphically blew us away like it did last year. The games looked way behind what they showed us last year proving that last E3 was a lie.
Now I admit that the 360 was very dissapointing at E3 last year untill we actually got our hands on the games, so maybe the PS3 will amaze us in November but at $600 it better BLOW ME AWAY!
And I DO think the tilt sensor is cool, but it is NOWHERE NEAR as cool as the Wiivolution Wiimote! I'm sure driving games will be awesome on the PS3 with the tilt controler but the PS3 so far is an over expensive dissapointment.

Many gamers wont buy the machine quite simply because they can buy them for their PCs. I think its a safe bet that 99% of US/UK/Japanese gamers have PCS. They cant rationalize buying another machine to play the same games. The Xbox's strength is it's biggest weakness. Because it has PC games people who play a lot of PC games love it also they are easy to port (as long as they use DirectX that is), however people who play PC games dont see the reason of buying the XBOX.

...difference between making 600 dollars in to weeks, bringing home 600 dollars in to weeks, being able to actually spend the 600 dollars you just brought home on something other than baby formula, gas and rent, and actually thinking that 600 dollars every two weeks is making your life worth something.
Thus, if your not one of the above, hang out at pawn shops about the 5th of december and watch these guys rush in after realizing they cant spend 600 bucks on the ps3 and actually pay rent and buy a $30 bag of grass.

I have a PS2 Love it,(Sony capitilized on their luck), PS3 is gonna be great for all when the price drops, I know For just the Blu-Ray Player... That price is a steal, But how many parents buying consoles for their kids give a damn about Blu-ray, much less know what it is or give a damn after their kids try to explain it to them.
When The DS, PSP, and 360 came out, I hear the radio stations tellin parents each time, It's a ripoff, they just want your money, then you gotta buy the games, etc, etc.... They are gonna have a field day with the PS3.

Hey, I have been a happy PC player for close to 8 years now. All of my consoles have really taken a back seat to my PC.
Until now.
The 360 is the first machine that I would rather play then my PC, and there are many reasons. Besides the fact that the games are more predictably stable and smooth running on a console, there is the trade-in option. With my console games, I trade the old ones in for store credit when I get tired of them. But for my PC.... I still have the CDs for games I bought seven years ago, and will never play again. I am stuck with them. With my 360, I also have the option of renting games.
I am finishing up a few PC games right now, and after that, my PC is not going to be used for much other then MMOs. I would rather be playing games on my 360.
I was not sure about the 360 when it came out, but I genuinely love the machine now, and the 360 haters out there can lick some nuts. They are really missing out thanks to their own stupidity.
basically boils down to taste, Vast majority of PS3 games wont look noticebly dif from 360. Basically, if you like hoaky japanese games, get a ps3 and enjoy the polished production, and lack of interactivity. If you like Western games, (me) get 360.

Xbox360+HD-DVD attachment will cost more then the ps3.
the core version of the ps3 is direct competition to the premium version of the xbox360. Microsoft is comparing core vs core and premium vs premium.
core xbox360 is 400 bucks but you get a *****ty console if you buy the core version.
core ps3 comes with hard drive, wireless controllers and basically every feature the xbox360 premium pack has.
So really both console cost "the same", anyone care to prove otherwise?
The premium version comes with all the bells and whistles and has no competition. for one the xbox360 with the HD-DVD will most likely cost the same thing as a ps3 premium so i guess the competiton against the ps3 premium pack is the Xbox360 Premium+HD-DVD. the HD-DVD addon will no doubt cost no less then 200 bucks.
Why 200? For one all the internals that work with the HD-DVD have to be inside the external add-on. Since the device will likely use USB2.0 to interface with the xbox360 then theres no practical way for the xbox360 to provide any major assistance to help the HD-DVD add-on like the cell will do for the PS3's built in Blu-ray.
External enclosures have to be powered and thats extra cost for a power supply. The 5v line comming from the USB just isnt enough.
So minimum 200 bucks for HD-DVD addon.
Core Xbox360 is 400 bucks + HD-DVD addon is 200 bucks. thats gonna be a total of 600 bucks unless they drop the cost of the xbox360 or use bundle deals.
600 bucks is just right for a premium ps3. for 500 core ps3 you can get the "equal" of a premium xbox360. You get everything the xbox360 has and no less.
Microsoft is just using the 600 dollar price because they dont want to admit that the 500 version ps3 is MUCH MUCH better choice then the 500 dollar xbox360.
I own an xbox360 premium version and it sucks. No "great" games. Oblivion is better on my PC then it is on the Xbox360. A controller has no advantage over a mouse+keyboard when playing oblivion.
Sony wont lose. They will sell more 500 dollar versions of the PS3 then the 600 dollar versions. If sony were to only release all ps3s in Japan before anywhere else, they would have sold more PS3s then the xbox360 would have sold globally.
Like the PS2, the PS3 will set another sales record if they can even make enough consoles for it to happen. People paid over 1000 bucks for the xbox360 during the first month of release. So whats 600 bucks?

Vietone lol, you did exactly what I just said a few post up. Trying to Justify the PS's high price by comaping it to the Xbox 360 with an HD-DVD Add On. It simply doesn't work that way my friend. MS Gives it buyers the "Option" of wanting to buy it. It's not like they are shipping it out to every Xbox 360 owner & saying "Cough up $200". Even if so, I put alot of money on the table in saying that the HD-DVD Addon will end up being a much more solid Drive than the Gimped BD Drive the PS3 will end up having. 2X Buddy =P as most players will have faster Models when they are shipped. Alot of people like to keep there Gaming Consoles Seperate from there Media Players. Just like i did with my PS2 & Xbox. Not once did I ever put a DVD Movie in them. Most will rather have a Real Player. Not a striped down gimped one. So people need to stop using that arguement. It's a lame excuse the Sony fanbase has backed into using seeing how poor there Systems E3 appreance was. They can't use no other arguement anymore.

Go to the video section on gamespot they have an interview there where they mention how bad the frame is in Gears of War. Now visit every impression of PS3 games and notice all the 'Oh my god its looks amazing, just like the videos displayed previously”

Hmm perhaps simple because they took what was good about the DS2’s , this could be argued however. The DS3 is lighter now though so it might be easier to play for longer periods of time plus it can tilt (which plays great with warhawk). Might be the undisputed champ again.

Correction Playstation IS the leader. Will it be the leader again, well that’s arguable but being that most analyst predict it will and by a large margin as well, I suppose they have a somewhat advantage don’t you think?

Dreamcast came out at a great time. They ruled when they came out even broke the record (same claim 360 is making and by the same person, hmm). I bought one. But I knew I was also getting a PS2. The Dreamcast had great graphics and I loved it but I couldn’t say no to a DVD player (no one in my family had one at the time), Final Fantasy and Grand Turismo. Actually the DC and PS3 were pretty close but once PS3 got going it was leaving DC in the dust (PS2 was more expensive too). Sega could have kept going but it decided to cut it’s loses since it had lost last generation as well (same as 360 wow so much in common) while it still had a fight left.

Frankly i will be buying the PS3 as soon as it comes out . But i also hope all the consoles win! The more consoles the better the competition. The better the competition the better the games. Thats just how it goes. I hope the Ps3 , Xbox360 and the Wii all do GREAT! Even though i prefer ps3.. i know i will get BETTER ps3 games if there is a Wii and 360. D'uh.

I got xbox 1 free, when I was an uber sony fanboy. Like 2 months later it dawned on me, the reason i never played consol games over computor games was because I had a crappy ps2.

I see a lot of people (I think it’s only fanboys actually) complaining about why they are being force to buy a Blu-Ray Disc player. Well how about this, suppose the 360 or Wii would have been CD based? What would be your opinion then? Sony has been on the bleeding edge of media formats with every iteration of their console. CD->DVD->BDD
You think MS doesn’t think that having BD embedded is a huge advantage? Why do you think they announced their Add-On. Hint: Same reason Sony added the tilt functionality on their control. Only difference is that PS3 being that it hasn’t been release has the opportunity to have it built in.
One key thing we can take from every generation is “If it’s not included it doesn’t count”.
2-3 years from now when DVD reaches its limits (its already doing so) PS3 will reap the rewards. It will also get cheaper just as fast and reach the same price as DVD (CD now ~= DVD). This is the way technology works. You might bash it now but Sony has enough fans to buy their system until they can lower their prices to get to the more casual fans and by then DVD Drive prices will = BD Drive price.
Let’s be honest here Sony has huge advantages: More game variation, better studio support. Bigger fan base, media advantage, raw power advantage, and best of all another Sony machine that will last another 10 years.

let's get another point in, most people own a computer. Which means I can play with most people online in the near future.
If you didn't watch the microsoft press conference, 360 computor and cellphones wil be linked by xbox live, by being integrated into windows vista and cell phones. you can jst send them an invite to play on computor and the two of you can play. Buy a 360 controller for your computor and you basically have a 360 right there. So all of you may own a partial 360.
PS3 is stuck with only playing people on ps3 o yah if u have a ps3 and if ur willing to fork over 25$ a month you can play with 3 games on the computor.
Maybe we can continue this arguement on the forums i think it would be more fun to get more people involved, but im going to bed. maybe tomorrow, it's been fun sony fanboys/n00blets
Lets consider a few things: 1st, next gen consoles arguing about processing power is kinna useless. Look at ps2, the graphics of today's games still manage to improve slightly over the first, 2nd, and 3rd gen games. This is because develops find ways to sqeeze every extra ounce of power out of the console.
In the next generation, power is not important as develop budget. Look at The Outfit on 360, looks worse than most Xbox 1 games, look at GRAW, it looks amazing. It all comes down to developer skills in graphics.
That is one thing ps3 has going against it, it is harder to program for, and MS has better middleware. Chances are that graphical differences will be little between two systems.
Everybody arguing about "360 winning, and PS3 winning" are retarded. There is no valid point in this argument. Nobody will lose, dumbasses. Look at dreamcast, I would consider it as "losing" its war against PS2. What a loss it was, they had 3 years of great innovative titles, with alot of crap here and there. If thats a loss in the gaming world, things arent so bad for gamers.

1: Sony f**Ked up on Blu-ray, the PS3 will have a 2x BD read speed, which puts its adverage bitsPerSecond at around HALF of a DvD12x read speed, now thats fine, just the PS3 will have to deal with longer loading times and a bottleneck on that massive 50gb disc. unfortunately this little bit of weakness is the sole reason that the PS3 isint as impressive as it could be, if it was removed, sony could affoard to lower the price by $200, and not see a damn thing different in the games.
2: sony is relying on damn fanboys to defend the console. what do i hear out of the sony fanboy's mouth when a 360 game is shown with BETTER graphics than what is shown for the PS3? "I hear it has bad framerate problems!" or what do you hear when the huge price is announced. "oh its a great value for what you are buying"

the Xbox360 barely has over 100 games under its belt. The PS3 will have thousands of titles at launch. People bought the PS2 to play the PS1 games. Who wouldnt buy the PS3 to play their PS2 games in upscaled resolution.
The only thing keeping the Halo series alive is the multiplayer. You dont see people playing halo over and over again but you see people playing Final fantasy games over and over again all the time. gamefaqs.com has always had a final fantasy game in the top 10 list for years, YEARS!!!. halo2 lasted a few months on the top 10. That stands for something when FFVII which is an old PS1 game that still makes it to the top 10 list.
Final Fantasy Series owns the Halo Series hands down. Theres enough Final fantasy fans in the entire world to bring the sales of PS3 beyond the Xbox360. If they remade FFVII for the PS3 at launch, They would break the PS2 sales record in half the time even if the ps3 is 600 bucks.
1080p isnt just gonna be exclusive to the people who can afford it. Its new its gonna be expensive now but its gonna drop in price. 1080i may look decent but it wont look as fluid as 1080p running at 60fps. 720p vs 1080p is a no brainer. And if you can afford a 1080P TV, then you shouldnt have any problem affording a PS3 that can and will take advantage of it. Buying a 1080p HDTV to play a xbox360 is like buying a a 7900GTX to play Morrowind. It will play the game maxed out just fine but you wont use its full potential like oblivion would.

I dunno, I just feel like japanese (generally) stick to an ancient design philosophy. Its ilke the just provide a tunnel of graphics to walk through. Look at Lost Planet on 360. I like the game and think it is pretty impressive graphically. But it is just so linear. The environment always and only lets you go one way. I think Metal Gear Solid is very poor because of this. You kill a few guys, then watch a 20 minute cinema. I agree, MGS has THE BEST cinematography of any game, the cutscenes are always jaw dropping. But the gameplay experience is kinna..... lacking.
This is why i dont really like japanese games... its just like a big experience tunnel.
I just like the American Game design philosophy much better. Look at Oblivion, or Dues Ex (not DE 2). Mercenaries, etc.
Its a matter of taste people, call me an all american gamer, but I just dont care about Japanese titles that much anymore. I own Fight Night, Oblivion, GRAW, PDZ, Project Gotham. In the Future I plan to buy Table Tennis, Battlefield 2, Gears of War, Forza 2, Halo 3, etc etc.

"Woz man, OMGZ FFXIII will pwn anything Xbox 360". It's a no win battle with em. They will just have to wait for the truth to hit them. Drop $600+ down on a console, bring it home, just to realise that it is no better at all compared to what the other systems will have. BD Media is a gift, not an advantage. What will it get you in the long run? More Japanese RPG games & thats about it. Wowwwww, it can play BD Movies. Well, feel left out when people by the players that smoke it performance wise. PS3's 2X drive vs players with 4-6x Models =). It will be benficial to games that can actually use the space. But for a majority of titles, that extra space won't even be needed. Like how The Gamecube proved that point with using mini-disc for the current gen. People are overpaying for a system when in turn, will give you no advantage at all.
- A Gimped Blu Ray Drive (Code named - Poor Mans Blu Ray)
- A Drive whos speed & transfer rate runs equivalent to an 8x DVD Drive. This will cause alot of bottlenecking issues & put alot of strain on the Hard Drive to make up the slack
- A "Cell" processor whose IBM own test have shown to have a very slim advantage on what can be done on it compared to what the Xbox 360 CPU can do.
- A GPU that is based on the 7x line of Nvida Cards. It has already been proven to be unable to perform HDR + AA simutainlousy. Also has very limited support for Direct X 10 & will end up with an outdated Open GL code in by 4th quarter.
- A larger Media Format that may only be beneficial for the RPG Gen. It will surly land some exclusives who will want to bank off the extra space, but how widly use will it become? This is an issue only time can tell.
Will I get the PS3, yes. ONLY when they have proven that the system justifies a purchase. As of right now, nope. Only like 2 games that intrest me & that is not enough for me to get a $600+ console. Only a retard will drop that much with the lackluster lineup of launch titles they have for it atm. The Hardware is unproven. The games at E3 are not very impressive according to many sources, & the pricetag is simply not fit atm. We will see what happens.
How do you win a console war selling only to 60% of the market. Answer, you can't. 360 is like the plague in japan and no one want's one. Asia is an ever expanding market yet the 360 continues to do worse then the original. I like the 360 but, they have no chance of winning. If they want to win they have to at least show up in japan and not get beat everyweek by the Gamecube and GBA.

Fanboyism - if it's even a word at all - makes me laugh. Here are my two cents:
Sony:
They've done a great job and has empressed many at E3. Can they deliver? Who knows? No one thought that the N64 would be chewed up and spat out by the technically inferior PS1. Sony's saving franchises are GT and GoW...the sales prove it. BTW, shooting someone in the head is a lame as riding around in circles with real world cars and tracks. Sony's going around in circles, trying to dig themselves out of the hole. When you've been sued up the @$$ by just about everyone, I wouldn't doubt you would be as collective. Sony's riding a lot on this new hardware, and whether or not it pays off will be something that may be unveiled within the next couple of years. Speculation goes as far as it is, speculation. As an article had me thinking, Sony doens't have an identity with their new muscle because they're branching out too far into different areas. With just the PSP alone, they're trying to battle out the NDS, GBA, iPods, and GP32x. That's just wild...
Microsoft:
The release of the XBox 360 has been astounding. I personally don't have one, but I'm sure they're doing a good job with the timely releases of their games. I've yet to see a "must-have" game on the system, kind of like what I see (or don't see) on the PSP, in which I do have. MS is focused on their Live service in hopes that I can change the reality of gaming. Very nice approach. But I do have doubts. The Japanese gaming industry is the hardest to please, as they're more into "gimmicky" things, for lack of a better word. As opposed to having LAN parties, they'd prefer to hang out at arcades. That alone can show you the difference in views. Yes, the Live Arcade is something to marvel at (holy SF2!!), but only here in the states. I would agree that the games published here in the states were the better games published last year with Halo 2, Half-Life 2, and GTA:SA. The American lineup is no longer a chump lineup, but it's yet to prove itself again within the next generation. That's one of the reasons why the Japanese systems have been doing so well...FF, Zelda, Mario, GT, SF, MGS. Divide and conquer...Nintendo and Sony were in collaboration at one point in time during the SNES's reign and we all know what happened there. And yes, many N64 devs pulled out and plopped on Sony's doors...so it'll be interesting to see if 3rd parties'll hop boats over to the 360.
Nintendo:
The Wii has everything riding on it. The Japanese market is nothing to fool with, and they'll be on the boat indefinitely. Cheap pricing with innovative tools and going to the roots of gaming, which is the quality of the games themselves, is something that Nintendo will be surely able to spread the globe with. Will we see a comeback? Who knows...Sega tried it with the Dreamcast, but things didn't work out as planned. The Japanese and European market make up lots of the Nintendo's sales, but the US market as a whole is bigger than both. Will the trend go along with the younger generation? Who knows. Will Nintendo finally break out of their Disney-like ways and take a head-on mature campaign to regain the thrown as the industry's dominator? Who knows.

I think the trend really goes to owning two consoles. I have an xbox 360 myself (the first non nintendo console I own, besides a PC if that counts) and I am definetly going to by a wii. For me there are no PS3 titles I absolutely want to own. If I look at the other "regular" titles, most of them are multiplatform - 360 and ps3. I don't quite see the real argument to by a PS3 when I already own a 360 and a wii - especially not for that price.
Moore's statement is true in every sense. For what Sony is pulling right now (copying about every aspect of other consoles) really shows how confident they are with their "superior raw power". I guess the price of a ps3 is ok when you look at all the features - but that is no argument that gamers really want that. I bet that if Sony did not announce two hdmi outputs etc. nobody would miss it.
You get what you pay for. I think the 360 is ok for the price but I am a serious gamer. Microsoft was touting the 360 for hd but it has no hd player. Why would I want to buy an add on? They already made the mistake of making the core system thereby making the better version owners not get the full potental from there system. Peter Moore will see people in droves to get their hands on a PS3.

I really wish people would shut up about the ps3 price and the blu-ray being a “failed” format. I mean, what the hell? IT’S NOT EVEN OUT YET! Each system has their strengths and weaknesses but I feel that the PS3 and the Wii have more future capabilities than the X360 for these 4 reasons.
1. Blu-ray for the PS3. People are starting to become more and more aware of the HD craze and want superior video and audio quality. With Blu-ray supporting such sharp/crystal clear images and 7.1 Audio, it’s a tech Junkies wet dream. Also considering that the ps3 can be considered the poor man’s blu-ray player (just like the ps2 was for the DVD player) I see it very hard for Sony to fail.
2. The Wiimote. This controller has endless possibilities for many different genre’s and game styles. Whether its using the controller as a sword, SLICING up yakuza or using it to flip burgers or cook fish in some bizarre cooking mini game. This thing IS the future and anyone who doesn’t see that is clearly brain dead.
3. Asia. Nintendo and Sony BOTH have a HUGE fan base in Asia. The gamecube, ps2, psp, GBA and the DS have remained in the top 5 of the sales charts since they were released totaling over 100million in combined sales. They are truly a power house separately (Imagine if they joined forces again!!!) Asia is the key to being successful in the video game industry and over there Xbox just doesn’t cut it. They have PC’s to do PC gaming. They don’t need an Xbox or an Xbox360.
4. Last but not least, they have staying power. Over the last 10 years both Nintendo and Sony have had strong sales globally even though both companies have had some failed experiments. People like to talk about Sony’s failed formats but what about Nintendo’s? (virtual boy anyone???) people tend to forget that these 2 are companies that will bounce back no matter what. PLUS they are companies that people love and trust. The xbox camp is full of empty promises (so is sony and Nintendo) but a lot of others don’t like the xbox because of Bill Gates and Peter Moore being so flashy and attacking the competition rather than just taking the ninty/sony way of sitting back and watching. Peter moore should have learned with the Dreamcast that he shouldn’t dish out more than he can swallow. The price truly does not matter to people these days and to those that are complaining about it didn’t want the ps3 in the first place. They knew the PS3 would be majorly exspensive or they should have used their common sense and took in consideration the amount of NEW and UNUSED technology that is going into the system.
With all that said, I think Nintendo and sony have a strong chance of coming out strong this gen with the Wii possibly topping the ps3 and the ps3 coming in second place. Only time will tell though. But that’s just my 2 cents.

1. Blu-ray will fail, the disks are expensive, movies on blu-ray cost 30-40 dollars, and blu-ray has been delayed, furtermore HD-DVD has sold out in japan and is selling quite well in other places.

And i guess your have never played a computer game at 1920x1280 with max out settings which is close to 1080p.. Theres a Major difference between 1920x1280 and 1280x768 which is equal to 720p. And thats on a 20 Inch display.
Its so drastic that you will never go back to 1280x768. 1280x768 with everything maxed doesnt look as good as 1920x1280 with no enhacements. Take a look at video card reviews and you will see the major difference. The amount of pixels increased makes the image sharper, better and more fluid. Comparing 1080p to 720p is like comparing 720p to 480p. Anyone who sayst heres no difference has never seen 720p alongside 1080p. All I see is people saying theres no difference when they have nothing to back up their claims. 1080p has almost 3x the amount of pixels showing on screen. Thats enough proof right there that you can see the difference. More Pixels = More Quality. Ask any computer gamer and they will tell you that even on small monitors like 15", higher resolutions always look better.

Its the standard blue-ray drive speed. How is it gimped unless they have set the minimum standard speed higher then 2x, last time i checked they havnt.

Slim? Wheres your backing? Cell test have shown even with single and dual cores outperform intel processors in the server market. Not to mention that the cell is designed with multimedia in mind. The Cell assist the Nvidia GPU in graphics rendering. the Intel processor does not. the ATI GPU in the 360 has to do the majority of the rendering while the processors send it what it needs. The Cell can render limited graphics but thats strain off the Nvidia GPU so it can handle the heavier graphics.
- A GPU that is based on the 7x line of Nvida Cards. It has already been proven to be unable to perform HDR + AA simutainlousy. Also has very limited support for Direct X 10 & will end up with an outdated Open GL code in by 4th quarter.
Wrong. Nvida can do HDR + AA and its been proven with Chucks Hack to the Nvidia Drivers. The Drivers are whats making it not work. A simple download of Chucks hack and HDR + AA works. Read more before you say stuff you know nothing about.

1. PS3 has a hard drive, say good bye to load times. Plus a 2x BD read speed is equivalent to a 7-8xDVD drive but unlike DVDs it has constant transfer rates. a 12xDVD (360) has an average transfer rate of 8x. You do do the math. Don't believe me go search online. Google "DVD faq"
2. Well not only do they have bad frame rate problems (which represents a processing bottleneck) but the games aren't as smooth. 360 only slightly improves upon the Xbox right now. When it come out you really couldn't tell it was the Next generation meaning it wasn't to big of a step up. According to most of the PS3 game impressions at various sites those games are looking leaps beyond this generation.
3. Well MS went on CNN and said that 1080P for games is an impossibility. Sony comes out on their conference and not only shows a game running on 1080P but they show it running at 60FPS. Look at IGN HP reports, they mentioned that the difference is like night and day. You can tell the Games running at 1080P from a mile away. Sure it wont affect too many people now, but when HD becomes the standard in a few years (according to US Government research) this will be an advantage.
Also MS plants rumors all the time. Moore is famous for this. Hype is the name of the game. I am sorry to tell you but MS, Nintendo and all other companies hype their products to no end. Why wouldn't they. Would you go to a job interview and say "Hi I'm Thorlord and I am a mediocre employee who waste most of his time trolling on blog sites". One thing to note is that due to the PS3's parallel core processors it allows for multiple processors to work on separate parts of the game. For example one SPU can do Physics, One can manage memory, One can extract data from the disk, One can stream video from you eye toy all while playing a game. This allows for the GPU to concentrate purely on Graphics. This is the Power of the Cell, is all about Parallel Processing. Those of you who saw MGS4 at E3 and think it's prerendered, think again, watch it again. Wait! See the frame shutter! That means it's on real hardware (for the most part). So I have read the majority of these posts and so now I am ready to give my ideas. Some of you may call me a SONY fanboy, but what really is a SONY fanboy. A SONY Fanboy is someone who buys all products from SONY, has their HD TV, cell phone, media player, all consoles and basically buys all shirts with SONY name on it and so on!
Seriously the only thing that I have that is SONY is my PS2 and PSP! I do not think I am a SONY fanboy, a PlayStation fanboy yes. But wait I got nintendo products too so no I am not a PS fanboy.
I have played the Xbox, and seriously all i saw was like games that were similar in game playing, story, etc...
I have seen Xbox 360 graphics, seriously if I want to play games with that graphics then I will just keep my computer I mean it is quite similar to it. but if I want real next gen graphics then I will buy a PS3 since PS3 already has its own developed physics graphics, not the one Xbox 360 or computers are using. It is stronger, do not believe me go read hardware specs at Gamespot!
Why would I buy a PS3 over a Nintendo Wii? well the graphics are better but if people are only going to buy the Wii for the controller, then that is pretty sad. SONY has created one as well which looks better in design and is working perfectly, not like the nintendo which has been reported as being faulty in some games!
For those of you who are saying DVD 9's are enough for games, I wonder why Abox 360 can only go up to 720p while PS3 can do 1080p? hardware is not alwasy what determines the resolution and quality of outputs. It is also the media discs that determine it! So I guess there is a reason why Sony is not using DVD 9's!
Also for people saying that they would like to have the gaming console seperate from the media player, why would you go to all that hassle and all those cables being there when you can have one machine that has once or two cables, and can play movies, music, shows, pictures, browser and basically act like a computer? For me I would like to only have a HD TV and a PS3 console at my stand nothing more, looks neat in my opinion.
As for the price, no Sony did not over price it! $600 is pretty reasonable for what you will get, yes it will be a 2x Blu-ray disc. But I would rather buy a blu-ray player for $600 than $1,200!!!!

Playstation never once used/stated that their product is directly better than 360. they gave the facts and knew that gamers could figure out that a cell processor( 207GFLOPS could pump out TWICE (why do people keep saying the cell has only a "slight" advantage. i got my numbers from ibm's site, too) as many flops as a 3 core processor(115GFLOPS). Sony never said anything about 360 being inferior because they are good sports. Has anyone noticed how crap all of nintendos games are, they are all based on characters that only appeal to kids? Any most games are ports of japanese games tahat were specifically designed for the manga/wierd japanese market, they all look just pure cheezey and what is going on witht he new controller. Personally I think the more a console costs to buy the better it will be becuase the manafactuers obviousley know that consumeres want good prices so if its expenise then you can pretty much assume that the components and effeort that went into that console. And whilst I am on the subject, did theh nintendo controller designer wake up with ahangover one morning, saw his tv remote and thought "hell yes, this is gonna be te new nintendo controller".

what do you mean have to pay for? most people allready own windows xp. wanna list the features of the conectivity, you can record tv, yah kinda lkike tivo, and you can easily transfer vieos photos and pictures to the 360. and thats right no conectivity for ps3.

--- You make it sound like it is vital for everyone to own a high def movie player. I dont even want one, as I do not expect to have a HD-TV for some years down the line. The PS3 forces me to pay extra for its blu-ray drive, while the 360 gives me the option to NOT BUY a high def drive. The PS3 is at least 50% more expensive just because of additional hardware that would be USELESS to me.

--- Again, Microsoft is giving me the option to NOT BUY the part if I dont need it. If I later decide that I want one, I can buy it seperate. If I need a bigger harddrive then 20gig, there will be a bigger one made available within the next year. All the Sony harddrives are doing is driving up the price on the PS3.

--- Once again, I ask the question, do I NEED to have that? No. A regular ethernet cable is all I need here, so why should microsoft jack up the 360 price by adding a built-in Wifi adapter to the 360? Most 360 owners do not need a Wifi adapter. But they can get one IF they want it.

--- That is a strike AGAINST the PS3. I have tried tilt sensetive controllers years ago. It really, really sucks to try and game with one. This control is too sloppy and poorly responsive. Most gamers are going to find this functionality to be a real pain in the butt.

--- Funny, but I have used a USB keyboard on my 360. Are you implying that the PS3 COMES with them? Maybe I am wrong, but I do not think it does. If it does, then that is just further jacking up the PS3 price needlessly. I highly doubt the PS3 will make much use of these things. The 360 supports USB keyboards and mice, there just isnt much point to them. FFXI is the only thing that will currently use them, to best of my knowledge.

--- Umm, no. XBox 360 = 1080i and yes, 1080p is better. But once again, The vast majority of gamers do not own high def TVs. Those who do own a HD-TV do not nessesarily have one that does 1080p. If you think that crap you posted is fact, then you either need better sources or you have reading problems. Most of what you posted is innaccurate and extremely biased. It is very easy to find the real facts about the PS3 and Xbox 360 if you dont ignore half of what you are reading.
If you would like to learn real information about the 360 and how it compares, there are plenty of people out there who would be happy to fill you in. All you have done is listen to biased rumors from people who dont know much about the 360.

I'll tell you- the wii
Why?
People will think that it's a sort of battle between 360 and ps3, but this mean that you'll rarely get a person who owns a 360(or ps3) getting a ps3(or 360). But you will get a lot of them getting a wii because they'll want to play it.
For arguments sake lets say the ps3 sells 80 units, the 360 sells 100 units, and the wii only 30, many gamers will get a second unit.
1)Ps3- 80 units+30 of them get a wii
2)360- 100 units+ 60 of them get a wii (which is likely because of the price difference between 360/ps3)
3)wii- 40 units(of casual gamers who won't want complecated systems, also loyal fanboys)
So in total the wii sells 130 units, even the sony/msoft fans will buy games for it if they own one, so the wii uses the uniqueness of its controller to share the market with sony/msoft who's fans wouldn't of bought a nintendo product if it was along the same lines as the 360 and ps3(same games just look better). And since nintendo don't loose money when they sell the wii, the company will become bigger and have a firmer grip on the gamers(through marketing and press).
So all the msoft and sony fans who foolishly count nintendo out, but still buy the wii thinking nintendo will still stay at the bottom, will acctually be the cause of the wii's sucess.
BTW-I'm not a nintendo fanboy, I don't think you could even class me as a gamer since i havent bought a consol since the SNES. However the wii did get my attention, I think that i will buy it because its afforable and if i have some spare time i can play a bit of tennis, and project H.A.M.M.E.R. looks amazing
