Nintendo E3 Press Conference - Live (UPDATE #23) |
Listed in: Wii, Nintendo DS Tags: e3, industry news
Ó

Alright folks, it seems that much like Sony yesterday Ninty intends on being fashionably late. Whatever you can do I can do better huh? Say tuned because we'll be keeping this post updated as news breaks.
This post will stay on top to give you quick access to news as it breaks. For other E3 news, please scroll further down
UPDATE 1: We've been told to turn off all wireless devices, possibly to reduce the chance of interfering with the Wiimote... I wonder if they'll consider embracing "Wiimote" as an official name. It's kinda catchy.
UPDATE 2: Here we go, it's started!
UPDATE 3: Miyamoto on stage conducting the theme from Legend of Zelda
UPDATE 4: A racing game is being demo'd using the Wiimote.
UPDATE 5: Reggie takes te stage, talks about how the next generation isn't about what you see, it's about playing, and playing is believing
UPDATE 6: Video of a bunch of people playing with ther Wiimotes, using them as drumsticks, tennis rackets etc.
UPDATE 7: Oh SNAP! Next gen Mario and Metriod! Graphics look great... I'm getting a Wii, my Sony heart is broken!
UPDATE 8: Zelda looks HAWT on Wii, Ninty owns. Grappling hook Wiimote control. Red Steel's swordplay looks awesome!
UPDATE 9: Nintendo doesn't want to just make thing's a little bit better, they say that only works for a while.
UPDATE 10: No date and price just yet. It'll come out in Q4 2006 and cost less than PS3 and Xbox 360. That's a promise.
UPDATE 11: Tries to validate name, makes sense, but it's still silly.
UPDATE 12: Zelda is a launch title. BOOM! Ranged weapons in Twilight Princess to be controlled using Wiimote. A speaker is built into the Wiimote, you'll hear the bowstring go taut on the Wiimote, the arrow will "fwip" across and you'll hear the thud on the TV speaker.
UPDATE 13: The nunchuck also has built in motion sensors independent of the Wiimote.
UPDATE 14: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, Excite Truck, Project Hammer, Disaster: Day of Panic, Sonic, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Madden 07, Tony hawk, Rayman, Spongebob Squarepants. 27 Wii games playable tomorrow on show floor, QJ will be there!
UPDATE 15: Sexay French dudes demo Red Steel, graphics look great and the control looks phenomenal.
UPDATE 16: George Harrison is on to talk about DS sales, yadda, yadda, yadda.
UPDATE 17: Starfox DS, Yoshi's Island 2, and a really cheapo looking commercial for DS. Looks like the big bucks went to Wii.
UPDATE 18: Satoru Iwata on stage. Nintendo is targeting not only current gamers, but those who once played and lost interest, and even those who've never played before. In order to approach these two camps, Nintendo wants to reinvent the bridge between gamers and the games... the controller.
UPDATE 19: The Wiimote breaks down a barrier for non-gamers. Iwata talks on the virtual console, and it's appeal to gamers who haven't played games in a long time. Talks about load times, how we need to change this because people just don't have the time. Wii powers up virtual consoles games in just a few seconds. Even when Wii seems like it's turned off, the console uses technology called Wii Connect 24 to enter standby mode, it remains connected to the net so developers can upload content to the console at any time. Friends can visit you "village" (prolly Animal Crossing) and leave you messages and objects.
UPDATE 20: "Wii Sports" is a title that includes Tennis, Golf and Baseball in one package. Available at system launch.
UPDATE 21: Shigeru Myamoto announces that the first person to play Wii will be... Scott Dyer!
UPDATE 22: Shiggy, Iwata, Dyer and Reggie are playing 4 player Tennis. Nintendo just OWNT the next generation!
UPDATE 23: Games will never be the same. The revolution has begun.
UPDATE 24: And that's it folks. Nintendo delivered in a big way, my first next generation console purchase will definitely be the Wii. And that's coming from a Sony fanboy.

I Guess Nintendo is officially now competing with Tiger. Welcome to the machine full of minigames.
Red steal was not impressive at all. How annoying and inneficient it will be to hold up my hands everytime I block. The Wii remote is great but it seems it will only be great for party games (a good thing but shouldnt be the only thing). Not really for the hard core gamer at all. No thank Iwata continue chasing those flash playing gamers who would play only for free.

Oh, and screw the 360. I'm not expecting much from their conference unless they suddenly came out with a wiimote of their own. And a portable Xbox or something.

Also is like Sony pulled a fast one on them. They had comments like "Playing is believing" hoping to make the PS3 look like vaporware. Too bad Sony surprise everyone and even had games playable at its conference.
Really disapointing. I was waiting for much more. I really thought Nintendo will take second place again but now I'm not so sure.

(god forbid you move around to lose some of that 400lbs you got store on your body.. OH NO excersize!!!!! )
The Wii remote is great but it seems it will only be great for party games
(right.. lets completely ignore the other things that were shown and say the wii remote is only for party games..yup.. thats all they had to show.. totaly.. Retard....)

There wasnt much there was there? Is it be or besides Mario and Metroid Pokemon was their best announcement?
Pretty sad conference. Specially since the graphics on the playble games looked like PS2 games. But I guess that the point. Hmm I like interactivity as much as the next guy but I dont want a 2hour workout everytime I want to play my game.

Now price and again the last to release.
The controller is fun , but thats it....
Get ready for another flop..

And my Gamespot feed went out as well when Iwata-san started showing how to play Tennis. Is it a problem with too many users logged in, or do they not want to show people that footage now or what? It's been off for like ten minutes now.
And RedSteel looked more friggan sweet than I thought it could. The light effects were amazing I love how you can do that time freeze thing and take out people and make others surrender.
Mario looks tight as crap as well. Can't wait to play that.
EXCITE TRUCK looks sweet!! I wonder if you can customize tracks like on Excite Bikee.
LOZ:TP looked AWESOME on the Wii. And the part about hearing the bowstring on your remote by your ear when you pull back and then hearing it hit from the TV sounds awesome. Great realistic feeling.
That Project Hammer looks tight as well. Nice destruction game.
Sonic didn't show much but it should be interesting.
I'm sure I missed something but I'll comment on it later.
And I agree with something someone said earlier, Nintendo totally OWNED Sony's whole show in the first five minutes of their presentation. Even the stage looked cooler with the huge screen and futuristic door entrances.

Nin. Commercial - "Playing is believing", sony had playable games at the actual conference. this is unprecedented. IGN has various reviews on the gameplay and they are amazed.
Nin. Rep "is not about demos" - Bunch of playable and realtime games available for PS3.
They have always been bad at adapting, I guess I shouldn't have expected too much from them this time around.

And did you guys read the updates at the top? A QJ staff member--a self proclaimed Sony Fanboy--just said that Nintendo convinced him that the Wii will be his first Next-Gen purchase.
#39, "again"? Almost nothing about Mario and Zelda were the same on Wii as they were with previous titles. And these are the games we WANT to see and play again. They get better and better. And don't by a hypocrite, Sony pulling that GT game out. They said it was like GT4 in HD. It's the EXACT same game looking better, [sarcasm]whoooo hoo![/sarcasm].
And what's wrong with putting mini-games? You won't always have four hours to sit down and play a game. Sometimes you want to get in a quick session before work. Wii Sports looks cool and reminds me of a great title for the NES: "Track and Field".
And the sleep feature looks sweet. Downloading updates in my sleep with a quiet energy efficient system. Instead of waking up and seeing my house caught on fire when I left the 360 running.

Overall not a bad conference just not what people were expenting. I think Sony delivered more and then Shocked everyone. Nintendo did none. Wow Mario is coming to the next Nintendo system, what a shocker!
Sony did well but of course MS will do much better. Cant wait!

This is just good bussines. Sony will win because they have outsmarted nintendo in their own game. You have to admit, sony is very smart thats why they are number 1 in this industry. Nintendo fans are pathetic, they should have kept there own ideas to themselves until the console rivals have shown theirs. Nintendo are one stupid company, no wonder they failed when real company lik sony got involved in this bussines......It's really funny, because nintendo helped get sony into this bussines and later sony took over this bussiness, i'm a sony fanboy ad i say to nintendo fanboys that "thanks for your idea of the motion crap, we will take that. thank you". We have taken nintendos controller and what are you nintendo fans are going to do about it. SUCKER

plus, Sony didnt steal the Wiimote thing. it is completly defrent the Wiimote has motion detection. and the PS3 conroler just has tilt funtions used in flying games, driving games etc. since racing is a big thing with Sony now you can hold the conroler like a steering wheel and steer the actual controler instead of expensive wheel addons. its not ment to be like the Wiimote. they are completly difrent and each serve a difrent purpose.

I am a very fit guy but I dont wont to have to skip days of play because my arms are completely sore not from weight lighting but from the strain of holding one of these badboys. However it truly shines on Mini Games.
They showed a lot more than minigames but it seems they are trying to fit a circle block into a square one and pushing really hard. Definitely dont think this is good for hard core gamers.

It is good for hardcore gamers, i'm am one of them, the reason is that with the wimote you can actually control of the actions of you do. Also all you do is move your wrist unless you want to move your all arm. Since your a fit guy you should have no problem with that. I want a game that can make me move and have to actually play hard.

Nintendo Wiiners keep saying that Sony and MS are just trying to steal your money. Well what the heck do you think Nintendo is doing? They know they cant compete with Sony because they don't meet the hard core gamer's demands. What do they do instead, well they go after non gamers in order to bring cash. They say they are taking a risk but are they really? Are they spending millions trying to improve technology or even tapping into other things besides games? No. They are just saying "we give up, lets just make a Tiger like minigame machine and try to tap a market where the is no competition except maybe cheap Tiger games". As a gamer and a ex-Nintendo fan This makes me sick. Their conference finished a few hours ago and what a let down it was. Nothing shocking at all. Chris C. (a long time Nintendo fanboy who always post biased blogs) claims that he is a Sony fanboy but then fills up like 10 updates of the 24 with comments like "Ohh Nintendo is great!" "Iwata is so cute" (I guess just to fill in the same amount of updates as the PS conference). For the PS3 he only had facts and lots of them. No hype just pure updates because Sony didn't need some fan to "fill in" their conference updates with dumb comments. They simply took over E3 with straight facts!

Just read that there will be a Resident evil game for Wii.
Thank you
looking forward to what the Wii and PS3 have to offer me but im staying away for awhile from PS3. Proberly pick it up when they release the new GTA

Let's say only 10% of the population are gamers. And only 5% of those are hardcore gamers. That means that very few people will be the marketing audience. Add in the High cost and the HDTV issue and you're singling out even more people.
So you have to be a rich, HD owning, male hardcore gamer, with no life because you will only play long hardcore games, and you have to be able to afford a $500 system AND an HDTV to truly enjoy this experience?
Yeah, appealing to .5% of the population is really the way to sell games. I'm sure all the sons of wealthy men with no lives will enjoy it. All five of them.

Then why is sony trying to make the best realistic graphiccs and the fastest cell proccessor. Microsoft is trying to be the best thats why their going to release halo 3 on the same time when ps3 comes out.
Give me facts that Nintendo is arrogant and shameful.
Chric C. is a Sony fanboy if he claims to be, cause he might have a cell phone, camcorder, TV , mp3 player and much more from them, thats why his a Sony fany boy. His saying ohh Nintendo is great because at least they have a innovation mind. If nintendo is trying to take out money then they would put everything on wii so they can win the competition. Look at ps3, my gosh it's 600 dollars for a freakin 60 gb and a 20 gb for 500 dollars. Your right it's about the games, so on Nintendo wii you would have over 20 years of downloaded games which is great. If people get their arm sore after 5 to 10 minutes then its a sign telling them to eat properly, heck i know there lots of people that wants to play fps.
You right though that Sony has a huge library of game AND that going to cost alot. Everyone knew that the ps3 is going to be too cool, hot games, too much money to buy, ps3 is meant for hardcore gamers but not for parents and thats what there trying to do. Parents are going to buy wii rather then the ps3. Hwere the hell do you see tiger games. Hard core gamers love different ways to play and they love to play fps i hope you know that.

On the other side of that coin.. I don't believe anyone who says he was completely wowed by Nintendo's offerings.
There seem to be a number of AAA games, many of them with mature themes for on showcase.. so it's not all minigames.
There is still much that is in the dark. We shall have to wait and see.....

Lets hear it for a $600 DVD player!
Jokes aside the Sony Conference cut off 1/2 on me and I was glade! It bored the crap out of me! That was suppose to not only sell games(most of which Sony does not make), some new overpriced DVD standards, and a processor I would never let disgrace MY HL2 or SiN? Now you tell me I need to pay $500-600 to play MGS4? I would rather buy a Wii and let Sony and MS fight for the right to be the next system I but while I upgrade my comp for some real Unreal action (no mods=no Unreal!) Laugh it up but if the DS made Nintendo 5 times richer the Wii will follow...
Thank GOD For MGS4...

The reason Sony won was the amount of information which they released. They pretty much shut down all the critics and came out guns blazing give the fans everything they wanted to see. Here are a few key notes from all.
PS3
* Comes with Hard Drive - Good news for Sony fans
* Real-time Games graphics look as good (movie like) as they say it would (go to IGN or gamespot and they will confirm)
* Very good games on display Innocence Fall of man, FFXIII and Heavenly Sword looked amazing! See the video from IGN which is much better then the one at Gamespot for a better look at graphics.
* Glimpse of their new Network - Buy songs, movies and games plus they integrate with gameplay, i.e singstar.
* Price announced - Sony fans relieved is not $1000
* Release date announced. They promised large shipments by end of year.
* More Game Videos. Again the critics cant believe it's realtime, sony leaves them doubting and thinking wow imagine they are realtime.
* MSG4 trailer left everyone drooling. Really the game to beat at this E3. Konami just release an extended trailer and it's simple amazing and Real Time despite all the criticism.
* Controller with new tilting functionality - Super shock value (you could here the "wows I can't believe they did that" in the crow)
* Game play on the actual show floor. - Let everyone feel the games then and there, IGN/Gamespot reported they were awesome. Warhawk was great with the new tilting functionality
Nintendo
* Zelda Announced as launch title - hmm this is a GC game, will be awesome but not really shocking. Now if it was a new Zelda made specifically for Wii, I would have been blown away and probably soaked myself! This is like releasing FF12 on the PS2. We know know it will play on the PS3 and the graphics will get a boast but nothing new. Having FF13 announced is more like it!
* Mario and Metroid announced - Just a glimpses of them. No live game play WTF?
* Many games announced to be playable - Most are GC games that will just enable the Wii controller (WTF spongebob?)
* Graphics of the Wii finally shown to the world - IGN reported that on the big screen they looked like DS games, =(
* Iwata reveals Wii will never sleep - Huh? We actually want that functionality, damn must of missed the memo.
* Red Steal revealed - This seems like it will make a great game for the Wiimote but hmm those graphics look like PS2 not even GC graphics. What's up with that?
* Wiimote will come with microphone and it's numchuck will also sense movement- Now that's what I'm talking about. Something new.
MS
* You will have your Phone/PC and 360 connect to live services. - Might be good but not really exiting It actually sends the reoccuring message that the 360 is just a PC wannabe.
* GTA 4 will be released first for the 360. Correction Mr. Moore the PS3 will get it at the same time.
* HDDVD drive and Camera announced. But no details! WTF very disappointing if you ask me since we already knew it was coming. It's actually sad for 360 fans that to hear it will be release in Dec and not earlier.
* Gears of War, Viva piñata and Fable 2 will be great new games for the 360, Good start, but nothing really exiting well nothing new actually.
* Halo 3 trailer - very nice and a nice tease. Good job there but it was very short and didn't display game play and no release date. Again nothing we didn't know. (Who didn't know Halo 3 would come to the 360?)
So if you tell me Sony didn't win this I would have a hard time believing you. Unless your a real big fanboy of a competing system it is obvious Sony gave their fans exactly what they were asking for. You might of found it boring but that's because you don't want anything Sony has to offer and the more they offered the more upset and bored you get as the fanboy inside you kicks in.
Reply
But yeah Sony did take it and Microsoft disgusted me with that crappy conference full of bull***** predictions (BTW you've prob guessed I'm a BigN fanboy but do have a 360 which has dissapointed me since i play more of my old xbox games than any 360 ones)
