Nintendo DS' First MMORPG - Maple Story |
Here's an interesting bit of news that has gone largely unnoticed. Maple Story, a free 2D MMORPG by Wizet and published by Nexon, will be hitting the Nintendo DS. It looks like Nexon is actually collaborating with Nintendo on the project. If there is any MMORPG that could work with the DS, other than Pokemon, it's this.
For now, whether or not the game will be released outside of Korea is unknown. However, this announcement was at E3 so who knows? I might actually go back to playing it if it's on the DS... I quit after Wizet backstabbed its fans by deleting their beta characters after repeatedly denying it would happen. Still, it's a good game for beginners to the MMORPG genre. The learning curve is not very great at all and it's completely free to play. It's not a flash game, you'll have to download the file at their official website.

I played it till lvl 14 then got bored. But still, it really is a great mmo.

This MMO is a heavy grinder with an awful community...
play this game currently a lvl 40 archer on official and i used to play beta also. i dont think this game will be exactly as the maple on pc probably a lesser version with online multiplayer for DS players only because the pc version is already very crowded and the ds would just explode trying to play it.i would buy it thought just to see if it is fun
i think this will be a huge break out for Nexon and the DS. Knowing that many people love this MMO they would like to have it in their hands considering that people dont carry around laptops or even have laptops. i dont have a laptop and it would be very convenient to play at a friends house when they dont have the game.
I love this game and I love the DS. This game has no PVP and it gets old over time, but all games get old for me. This is very exciting. =)
I would rather have Shattered Galaxy as a Nexon port for the DS due to the fact that the DS should be king of the RTS genre, MMORTS anyone?

Mild was legit, and so was Ninja. They grinded a lot, so they leveled fast. My only personal memory of Mild of when he was around level 90, and I sold him my 60% claw scroll. He said for me to wait in Perion, and he went from 97% to 100% in just 30 minutes. That's probably legit.
The community has it's bad people, majority probably, but it also has it's nice people. You have to make sure to talk to a lot of people. Connect with others. That's the point of any MMORPG, and in this game it's very easy to just talk for hours on end.
And if you're going to make a character, there's too many assassins, clerics and dragon knights. Their items will be super expensive so beware.

yeah ive played this game...Im a level 62 Assassin and Loving it. I sure would pick up a DS and Buy this game.
i play maple:P im lv 50 on global, i would so buy this and i wish u can transfer your chars, but i hope clerics are use in single player or use if ther isnt any wifi
Excited for this. Oh and Vager, level 14 is next to no grind. Don't say that you quit at level 14 because of horrible grind because the grind only starts getting worse at around level 28+
i play this game too im a lvl 37 ice wizard and its really fun. And the bad community thing isnt all that true, the only rude people that play are 10 year olds.
Grinding is when you kill monsters over and over again to lvl. most or all mmorpgs has it, so I get bored if its killing the same monster over and over again for an hour or so.
You might think there is no grinding but it just depends on how you enjoy the game.

Cool, someone recognizes me =P Mild and Space (Ninja) were both legit. They were friends of mine and I still talk to Space often and Mild every once in a while. Neither of them botted. They were just very efficient and dedicated a lot of their time to the game.
Maple Story is boring along, but fun when you have a bunch of friends playing with you.
How is Wizet and Nintendo gana pull this one off? I play the MMO as a lvl46 fighter, and belive me, the "10 year olds are the bad ones" are completly TRUE. Don't that that stop you from playing ;) They are only kids.
Anyway, you'd think game play would be SOO much different on the DS. And I highly doubt that you could connect the DS version to the online version. This is deffently somthing we'll all have to be listening to about! :)

i play the pc verson, lvl 43 f/p mage, 40 sin, 21 swordsman (aka - packmule) and i think its a great game, this makes me want a DS :-O
DS has no hard-drive built in, so how do you think MS is going to be able to add updates for the DS MS? No updates?? On an MMO? DS MS is not happening.

Think about it. The only way for the DS to connect online is through a wi-fi connection. Wireless router, blah blah, stuff like that. How many people a) like Maple Story and b) have wi-fi access?
Leveling will be much easier, quests will change in some way, and maybe the final boss will be crimson balrog or something...
If there IS a story, though, it would add so much replayability. Being a thief would automatically add the other three classes into your companions...or something. Expect the classes to be much different. :)

maplestory doesnt want to be friends with f@gs like sony.besides they dont have a touch screen on psp.
Why can't they make this on my PSP.. so it use some of its other good features.. and wouldn't it be hard to see what your doing on a DS screen?

ya so today i was talking to my friend about how they could make ms on DS then i read this so its cool. BTW i have a 35 cleric named monk44 on bera but im playin on a new char because i messed up my clerics stats so my new char is Smitty44 on bera and im a lv 15 mage (been playin on it 4 2 days) who will be a fire/poison wizard

im lv 45...im playing it right now...i think the problem with this game being realeased on ds is taht it will be widely abused...and hacked to shreds...its getting hacked bad enough..the ds doesnt have very secure wif-fi since u can hook into about anyones internet with it T_T unless the servers locked...security will be a big issue...
I love maple. I do have a lvl 11 archer that is stronger than my 19 rogue though. I sucked back when i made my thief. Anywho, if i had a DS id buy this IF it was like the PC version. normal screen shows picture touch shows a digital keyboard that works like the PC keyboard and a space for stuff windows and a bar to type in when you hit your chat buttons. Thats how i imagine it.

a mmorpg on ds tight maplestory is my favorite computer game I cdant believe its going to be on ds there will be no lagging probably a few hackers on wifi but the thought of having maplestory handheld to take any were is too cool im buying this for sure all i need to know is game coming out!!!!!!!!

Online games are known for the amount of memory they take? can you really fit this game in a lil card? what about updates? and stuff? I dunno id love to have a online game while im out n about its a great concept but fee's and other things come to play that I dont see the DS being able to handle....but who knows i need to play this when i get home..
I just heard about this game and snagged up the PC version. As like any game released today, you repeat everything you do. That is the unfortunate attitude of game developers today and we have to deal with it. I am playing NFS:MW and once I got into the last part of the city it got boring and VERY repeatitive, so any game can do it. As for converting it to work on the DS, that would be easy, lighten up the graphics to fit into a cart, put the game screen on the top screen, and the bottom screen can host the world map stats and so forth. To talk to someone a simple local character box can be placed on the bottom screen that would allow you to click on there name. It is all very easy to do, and this game would fix the DS perfectly. So lets hope they carry out there plans.

yea i love maple story im a lvl 17 Rogue im so getting maple story ds it prolly will be way fun bc then u could prolly get cheat codes and stuff like game sharks and stuff sounds way funn an dif nintendo like makes the nintendo ds wirless thing so u can play with ppl all around the world that would make the game the bomb!!

I mean lets face it, there are some good MMOs out there this 1 ranks as 1 of the coolest. lvl 51 Ice/Light mage and lvl 41 Fire mage on Scania. Its got some drawbacks to it tho...The lvlin system should b revamped ..it takes too freakin long to lvl in this game I hope this DS game gets a makeover in the exp dept. cuz it needs 1 badly ..Have a DS/PSP will give this 1 a rent ....if its good then I'll buy

well psp's bettery is low and ds lite's is hella long thats y it take 7hrs to charge.... ds lite is better cuz its brighter and wi-fi is better than psp i have all 3 psp ds and lite....... when is it gonna b in us or not in us

I would definitely prefer a smaller version of Nexus for the DS. It's all I ever thought about before the DS was released... "Someone has to make Nexus for the DS!" This is close enough, but not good enough :(
