New Sony Service As a Tool For PS3 |

Sony, after being accused by Microsoft's Christ Satchell of not "giving time and effort to their online space", is brewing up something that may put an end to that argument. Sony Online Entertainment in July will debut a service with a working title "Station Launcher" which will provide users access to several of its online PC games. Station Launcher will also combine lists of players' friends from a variety of the company's games, support chat and provide downloads of new game content and trinkets. Also, it will offer a single point where players can manage payments and link to other Sony-connected sites carrying player rankings and information. Initially, Station Launcher will connect users to Sony's EverQuest, The Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, PlanetSide and EverQuest II. The subscription plan costs $24.99.
But even with all these, the Sony Station Launcher is still an amorphous concept. If this is all that Sony can do to compete with Xbox Live, they may find themselves in serious trouble.

Compete? If the Sony Online service is still free then what is there to compete with? What about Wii? Isn't Wii going to have an online service? Then the Wii will be "competing" with Xbox Live also by your standards.
Why is everyone, including blogs specifically for the PS3, insulting and pointing fingers at Sony now? Is this a new fad? I bet Xbox fans are happy it's not them anymore.
The article seems to outlines a new online service for the PS3 if customers want more info, downloads, and media for a price. I'm not really interested but then again I don't have an IGN Insider account either. I can find the info, downloads, and media for free if I want it bad enough.
The PS3 will be a good machine. Can't promise it annihilating the competitors within the first year it's released but it will be good. They have the third party support the Wii will never enjoy and Japanese developers the Xbox won't be able to "compete" with.

Because people said the PS3 would have this and this and this and in the end it seems like it all turns out not as good as promised.
They showed the Killzone trailer and everbody said "wohoo!" and developers said "these graphics can be possible on PS3" and everbody said "wohoo!" even louder.
And because Sony said "we'll have a wonderful online support" and suddenly it seems like it's the opposide.
That are the reasons.
The whole thing was hyped far too much and in the end all isn't that what we had expected. And even when we had in mind that these trailer were rendered we still had the hope they wouldn't.
It's a disappointment 'cause everbody said it would turn out so wonderful.
Just my opinion...

Fact is, with all the build up, with Sony coming out and saying how much $$ they've thrown into the developmenet of the system, people were expecting something spectacular. What they delivered, overall was mediocrity - relatively speaking.
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE Sony, and currently own or have owned and cherished every one of their consoles. I for one was holding out on the PS3 and still refuse to go for a 360. But at this point, the Wii's got me excited...not the PS3.

How in the world can people snap to super quick judgements that this is all Sony has to offer? Have the fully released it yet? Not that I can see. What I do see is major potential. SOny has many different aspects it can pull from, and they are just giving us a small insite of what they are doing.
As for the whole promising thing, Yea, PS3 is not what they promised in Alpha stage. Final is a bout a rung down from what they wanted, but as tech is today, not saying they will not improve it later models. As for the 360, it's so many rungs down from what they stated in Alpha, I think I got wiplash from watching them drop. But ooo, wait they have add-on's, or such coming.... (thats another rant for later).
Want to talk about E3, they did a good job. Expectations are always a let down, think someone will "blow away" and expect alot and when they get a basic showing they are troubled by it. Don't expect, nor assume. It will only lead to let YOU down.

great article about how Microsoft promised Toy Story visuals. Funny how everyone remembers Sony saying that but always forget that Microsoft said it too.... Convenient memory loss.
Also people bring up Killzone's E3 2005 CG trailer saying how Sony said it was realtime. Anyone remember last years EA trailer of Madden? Microsoft said that was realtime then EA had an announcement saying it wasn't. Oh yea... everyone forgot... Might as well argue with a wall.

I do find it strange that MS was originally trying to tell everyone that PC gaming is dead and now SEEMS to be going in the other direction on it.

Now, I much rather have a PS3 Beta than a XBOX 360 Alpha that needs hardware upgrades up the wazoo.
And what about dissapointement when Peter Moore promised that Xbox 360 would be like a lucid dream ¬_¬.
