Logitech Delivers DriveFX Realistic Racing Wheel

At E3 on May 9th, Logitech revealed their new steering wheel accessory for the Xbox 360, dubbed the Logitech DriveFX Wheel. This is Logitech's first licensed steering wheel for the 360, and Logitech promises that gamers will have a more realistic and responsive driving experience through the implementation of high accuracy axial-feedback technology.

This steering wheel doesn't just rumble like old wheels, which use small motors to vibrate the steering column. It actually interprets data from games that support it, and reacts to physics in the game. Using this wheel, you will actually feel the curvature of the road, bumps in the road, and the wheels losing and gaining traction. How's that for syrup on your McGriddle?

The wheel itself is one piece of material, it feels solid and sturdy, with no seams, joints or edges.  Created by using a gas-assisted injection molding process, this steering wheel feels like the real thing. There are two rubber grips that wrap around the outside of the wheel for hand grip, and the wheel also features a gas a brake pedal set. The pedals are mounted on a weighted base to keep them in place, and behind the wheel you have a paddle on your left and right sides for F-1 style shifting.

“Our wheels have become the driving companion of choice for gamers on many platforms because of the sensory experience delivered by our feedback technology” said Ruben Mookerjee, Logitech’s director of product marketing for interactive entertainment. “Without feeling the bumps in the road and the impact from other cars, the standard racing game experience can be pretty superficial. With our axial-feedback technology, the Logitech DriveFX wheel delivers the most realistic driving experience for Xbox”.

We can start crashing virtual supercars with this wheel in the beggining of July, and you can expect to pay about $99 for one of your own. I hope they implement support for this wheel's feedback technology in Project Gotham Racing 3. Now that would be incredible!

It boggles my mind how they can get that kind of data from the game and into the steering wheel.

this isn't anything new like they're trying to make it sound. It's just a force feedback wheel.

#3, they can't, the game needs to support the wheel and it has to send the data to the wheel.

# FINALLY!Guest 2006-05-11 21:42
It is about time Microsoft fixed the biggest disappointment with the original xbox/360 launch. "Rumble Feedback" was a bunch of horse manure. Finally MS got their heads out of their asses and have implemented Force Feedback.

Only what? A decade behind the PS2? and their own PC gaming wheels?

At least they finally made the 360 worth having racing games for.

# 900 Degrees?Guest 2006-06-02 15:59
What I want to know is if this wheel has 900 degree turn like the GT4 wheel.
