Gran Turismo HD Tech Demo And Screens

The fifth edition of the Gran Turismo series will be making it's way to the PS3 sometime next year. Kazunori Yamauchi is at again with Gran Turismo HD, and this time around he hopes to implement a complex crash system with realistic damage modeling, which has obviously been lacking in previous titles. From the screens, we can see that the game will also feature motorcycles, which isn't too much of a surprise considering how well Tourist Trophy turned out. In addition, we can expect to see some infamous courses return like the deadly Nurburgring and the Grand Canyon, but new tracks like the Circuit de la Sarthe will also be available. Hopefully this title will have online play unlike its predecessors, but we'll just have to wait and see how this one turns out.

The tech demo was presented in full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 progressive) with the highest possible refresh rate of 60 frames per second. This is the highest possible performance that can currently be achieved on the latest high definition televisions, and is three times higher in quality than the average high definition quality broadcast. The visual quality in Gran Turismo HD is said to be 12 times greater than Gran Turismo 4 was on the PS2, which will truly allow you to experience an immersive world like never before.

You.... I D I O T S

watch the press confrence to find out why it looks this way. This is not the final look of the game you Dip *****s. This is basicly GT4 running at 60fps and HD on the PS3. Idiots. Passing judgement on a book before you read it.

Sony will be very quiet about this game. They don't want to give M$ any ideas on their Forza crap.

They said this is GT4 running in Super high Definition. Did they ever say its the new GT? NO.

They said Gran Tourismo HD.

For one look at the other games. They look much better then anything on the xbox360 so far and they will be launch titles. 500 bucks is cheap. You get a Game Console, a Blu-ray Player and a 20 GB hard Drive.

The PS3 alone would be worth 400 with no Blu-ray so your paying 100 bucks for a blu-ray player and you things thats expensive? Your getting a Blu-ray Player for a fraction of the cost of a stand-alone blu-ray player.

It took them years to create GT4, dont expect GT5 for a while. Also this confirms one thing, games will truely be shown in 1080p for games that support it. and with 60FPS its the best you can ask for.

1080i vs 1080p is no contest.

#3 I saw the Press Confrence on Gamespot. Trust me, this game ran pretty bad. Even the loyal Sony faithful in the chat room agreed. I mean come on, the damn game even suffered from slowdowns & frame droppages & all it was an upscaled GT 4 lol. That did not look good at all for Sony' You can pretty much tell my the faint applause it got afterwards. Not many people clapped XD.

Hey, imagine playing all your PS2 and PS1 games on PS3 with 1080p resolution and 4x AA. It'll look so good.

And #5, I also saw the press conference on gamespot. And trust me, I don't see any slow down. Maybe your internet connection is pretty slow or something. And if you saw the streaming version, you're not seeing the real thing. The real thing is 1920 X 1080 resolution. And the streaming video has resize everything to around 100 X 100 resolution. With something that small, you can't see much. But trust me, if you were there, you would have seen how good it look. IGN and all those other game websites agree with me.

# In all fairness...Guest 2006-05-08 22:33
Being a Sony gamer for years, I would have to agree that this didn't look so 'Next-Gen' to me. Granted it is running at 1080p, but with no AA (by the looks of it), low poly's (again by the looks of it), and without HDR rendering. So basically they have scaled the Res up a bit, added a few more extra's an upped the texture size a bit. Now that is something a 3 year old PC with a fairly decent GFX card can do as well, and I can get one of those for well under 600$, and with a harddrive bigger than 60gb. What do I care if it has a Blueray drive in it? I mean, these consoles are so damn loud that watching a movie, be it in HD, is like sitting in the cinema while they are vacuuming... Now I am not saying the 360 is better, but in my opinion both are equally capable, and at least the 360 isn't as overhyped as this (monstrously expensive) thing.

yea seriously, it may be a little early but all the models/textures look kinda low quality. compare this to other titles in 1080p and it looks pretty bad. oh and by the way, can anybody tell me how much difference there will be in graphics from ps3 and xbox360. will it be like the difference between xbox and ps2. because 100 dollars more for ps3 seems nice

Erm... are they even talking about the same game?! Those screenshots look trash. "12 times greater" are they just counting the pixels on screen?

PS3... erm nah, ps2.5 more like. Just get an xbox 360 and the HD-dvd add on if you 'really' wanna watch hd dvd's.

# slow downGuest 2006-05-09 07:17
Come on guys, just slow down, don't rush out and scream around. I don't (but did at a point some time last year:[ ) expect Sony to be able to deliver too many games at the resolution of 1080p, be it at a constant 40 or 60 fps. For me as a mainly PC-Gamer it looks as if consoles are finally catching up on their biggest issue - resolution but at that, failing to deliver their promise on ultra-realistic graphics. I hope that my wishes will still be fulfilled by games such as the F1 game(which i loved on last years vids). At this point it looks to me as if Microsoft (being fair) didn't fake too many of their game feats last year and delivered. PS3 still has to prove it's capability of putting out what's been promised. So far the only thing anyone(who doesn't own a x360 yet) could do, is to simply wait.

PS: hope ps3 will turn out to be a nice bluray player though

"Yeah we can do 1080p, but it makes our games look like ps2 games, but they are REALLY sharp looking....come on, tell me you've never seen a more crisp and evident jaggie in your life and you can REALLY see how blurry and crappy our textures are now ?!?"

Man the cars aren't even kicking up dust...and it even looks like they are using sprites on the crowds in the distance....horrible....

And if it is a ps2 game, what is the f'ing point of showing it in hd ? it's meaningless when it comes to actual next gen games....that's what most arguements are, can the ps3 run NEXTGEN games at 1080p, most developers say no....and if it's having a hard time doing ps2 games at 1080p I don't doubt them....

# This will be THE one.Guest 2006-05-09 16:10
We waited and waited (and waited some more) for GT4. When it finally arrived, I was not at all disappointed. The Logitech wheel capped it off and my living room was converted into a drivers *****pit for months. Our dining room table was not available as it was the only thing I had that wouldn't jerk around as I spun the wheel multiple rotations back an forth. GT3 was the reason I bought the PS2 back in 2000. I'm not even sure if Microsoft plans to use 1080p or not, but I do know this... Don't be quick to judge. For Gran Turismo and automotive enthusiasts, this is the next great game to wait for.

Let's face it, Yes it's expensive. One of the reasons we worked hard in college to get a good paying job is so that we can afford and enjoy this kind of thing. Buy the Bravia, buy the Deluxe PS3, buy the new Logitech wheel supersteering wheel. Then wait. When the next Gran Turismo eventually comes out, it will be worth the wait. Trust me... this will be THE one to get.

untold lengends is in 1080p even though the game is crap also to any person above me who said that this game was the ps3 version your wrong its the ps2 version UP SCALED to deliver through hd and run in 60 frames per second, you may ask why is sony doing this well the answer is because sony is still supporting the ps2 unlike microsoft also think about it this way, you went out on launch day and got you a ps3 probably traded in your ps2 but come february when sony releases GOW2 and you decide to buy it and play it on the ps3, just think about how that game will look in hd not even 1080p but just hd and running in 60fps.
