Following the confirmation of the PlayStation 3 price cut for North America, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has given GamesIndustry.biz a heads up regarding the console pricing for their side of the Atlantic.

According to the report, the announcement will be made during the E3 Media and Business Summit (to be held on July 11 to 13). Reportedly, the announcement will cover the price cut announcement made by SCEA  - from US$ 599 to US$ 499 - and the debut of the new 80GB PS3. The new model will come bundled with a copy of MotorStorm and will sell for US$ 599.

This is certainly something to look forward to for the fellows in Europe, especially for those who have been saving up for Sony's console. Currently, the PS3 sells at GBP 425 (EUR 599, or around US$ 850).

» £300

They need to drop the price to £300. It'll still be more than the US pays but will be at a price that people here will actually be willing to pay. I know I'll be buying one once they hit that price.

» Mallrats right.

Yeah..... 300 notes and I'll be getting one. Its the same price as a decent graphics card for my PC so much more easy to justify.. Make it £299.99 for that low price placebo point.

» I Feel Bad For Other Countries...

that have to pay more than I had to pay for a PS3 here in the U.S. Sorry to all of you that do. In Japan they pay even far less than us here in the U.S. I kinda feel your pain because of that but I know that you guys have to pay a lot more percentage wise. I don't know why they do that to people but they do. I can understand maybe shipping and taxes as cost but they can do better. One of these days maybe that will change. Good to know that you guys are fans and I enjoy everyday coming on here and reading your comments!

to import into europe it costs quite a bit, and everything needs to be approved here. And taxes are a lot higher. So i guess the prices are sort of justified.... T_T... Paid almost $1000 for my ps3 when it was released.

They cant due to high tax rates in the UK. Its taxes that put the consoles so high a price compared to the US.

I think that if they drop by £65 (roughly $100) they will hit a sweet spot at £359.99 due to the release of the Elite this christmas in the UK at around £339.99

» we are getting screwed

In Europe we always end up getting screwed with the prices. Just imagine here in europe buying the PS3 for only 366 euros it would be very cheap to most of us here in Europe,Sony would be immediatly nr.1 in sold consoles worldwide with no questions asked ...but hey i am just daydreaming we are forever fuc..ed and gettigng only leftover dry rice & wacky turkey.

I hope this PS3 gets cracked asap,so we can get our investments back..

» If I know sony....

Sony will be removing even more features from European PS3s to cut costs for them, such as the built in Wi-Fi. There will also be no price cut because they like screwing Europeans.

They are also planning on suing Play Asia out of business like Lik Sang, because they are importing cheaper Japanese PS3s to Europe.
