With the announced price drop for the Playstation 3, a lot of people have been asking if Microsoft will follow by lowering the price of the Xbox 360 as well. Gaming site 1UP was lucky enough to talk to Microsoft Game Studios VP Shane Kim who hinted at a price drop this holiday season.Shane said that past figures have shown that 75 to 80 percent of the business gets done $199 and below. After that he cited inflation and the capabilities of the Xbox 360 in terms of the product's worth.
Kim added that US$ 249 could be the mass-market price point for consoles today. Regardless, they're still going by the US$ 199 and are in the process of" trying to drive costs out of the system as much as possible so we can hit those price points."
With regards to answering the price drop by Sony this E3, he said a quite a few things that might interest you. He said in no uncertain terms that July is a very odd time to drop the price in the console. Besides, Microsoft doesn't feel that it is a major necessity as of this time.
Stay tuned. We didn't announce anything here, didn't feel the need to. July is a very odd time to announce a price reduction. I'm not even sure Sony announced a price reduction, anyway, but we don't feel the need to do it here at E3.
Is Microsoft resting on the laurels of its success, or do they have something big planned that'll shake the market up once again? Keep checking back here at QJ.NET for the latest updates.

But a price can't help MS any. They will be losing more money with each console bought.
It also points out that the warranty Just makes it that they will lose more money, but the consumers will likely benefit somewhat. But seriously how much will this help them. To me its a ticking time bomb waiting to detonate. Anyone care to elaborate. Remember this is just a statement. Im not bashing them.

The company that is playing catch up is Sony, I thought they were in the right path when they announced the price cut, but with the recent news about 60GB phased out units, I think they shoot themselves in the foot.
The only company that MS should worry is Nintendo, and right now they know they can stop them from taking first place, at least for this moment. Nintendo is selling Wiis because of the innovation of the product. Is an innovative control with a very crappy system (and I considered it "crappy" because they are selling a system that is less powerful than the original X-Box for $250.00 bucks, when you can get a regular X-box for less than $100.00, and the technology for the control is not new, is old infrared technology, is genius! but is a Rip-off at the same time).
I think in the future the Wii cannot compete with the other system in terms of graphic, imagine the development for the 360 & PS3 in two years, is now and you compare games like Gears and Resistance to anything the Wii can throw and them and it doesn't fell like next gen.
Maybe I'm bashing Nintendo too much here, but is because they are beginning to take that arrogant attitude that make them fall in the past. The said they don't want to compete with the other systems, and right now, with the succes of the Wiil, you see people like Reggie gloating and bashing MS and Sony, and I don't think that's good for a company that 1) Goes from fisrt to third in the last two generations of war consoles, and 2) their product is inferior compare to the ones their competitors have. Is only innovation, and that wears off.
Ms have a price drop for the 360 for the future, they don't want to announced it right now because people will stop buying the consoles, waiting fir that price drop. I think the time will be when Halo 3 comes out , there you'll see the price drop announcement.

The problem with current Xbox 360 is the additional costs eg controller, memory card/hdd, wireless adaptor, live gold membership, headset/keyboard etc that make it more expensive than PS3 and the PS3 has Bluray FFS!
