E3 2009: Square Enix still considering Microsoft hardware for Final Fantasy XIV |
Ó

It seems Square Enix is still considering their platform options for Final Fantasy XIV. The game has been announced for PlayStation 3 and PC, but according to the game's development team, there's still a chance that it may end up on Xbox 360 as well.
During Square Enix's E3 press conference where director Nobuaki Komoto and producer Hiromichi Tanaka were present to discuss Final Fantasy XIV, it was admitted that the game's development team was still "considering all options at this time, including Microsoft hardware."
There's already a Final Fantasy MMO on the Microsoft console, so I guess it's not such a far-fetched possibility. The game's release is still a year away (at the earliest), though, so the dev team still has time to decide on final platforms.
The press conference also yielded some more details about the new MMO. Even though there's no clear-cut release date yet, the game's launch will be simultaneous worldwide on both PS3 and PC. You can find out more at the source link.

They are just waiting to see how big of a cheque MS will write for them. Man, MS sure wasted alot of money on E3....it was kinda sickening. Really, Yoko Ono, steven spielberg, that chick from that show.....putting an Audi on stage, seriously, how flashy do you need to be ? Saddens me I could be playing FFXIIV right now, but have to wait till 2010 because MS signed a big cheque for a simultaneous launch....
Never was a fan of MMO especially because most if not all of them charge a monthly fee. FFXI costs Xbox 360 owners even more for I think 15 a month over the 50 a year. The thing that would be nice even though I still won't get it, is if all the consoles can play with each other PC. PS3 and Xbox 360 can play with each other. Though I doubt it's going to happen since either MS or Sony gonna QQ over it. I don't see why they can't allow PC and Xbox 360 though since its both MS.
Microsoft are never happy are they. They take, GTA, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear and now they want ANOTHER final fantasy. How about they develop their own games and leave these 3rd party developers alone ffs.
FF11 let sony and ms players play together, don't see why this one would be different
my god, you people sound like a bunch of whining babies... get over yourselves, and get lives. These companies arent here to cater to your fanboyish antics. they are here to make MONEY, and thank GOD, fanboys are in the minority. Youre a complete moron if you think Sony or Nintendo have never paid for, or cut special deals to get exclusives, now, or in the past. Grow up...
simple solution .torrent next anyways america..... wont choose FF over wow so go to 360 waste of time and effort i actually hope blizzard release wow on console so these guys can suffer in NA im really slowly loosing respect for them
Stop deluding yourself, fact is the developers and publishers of these games are looking at the big picture and noticing the Xbox 360 has a far larger install base, a much greater game attach rate, and its sales are always increasing. Year over year sales the 360 destroys the PS3 no matter what you look at, 2007-2008 PS3 increased 10%, 360 increased 58% Jan 09 PS3 sales were actually down from Jan 08, and so far thru May 360 is already up 30% over the same time in its record year of 08 Read Ninjiz's comment as well. These people are interested in making money, and you make a hell of a lot more of it by putting your game on both 360 and PS3 rather than just PS3
Third Party games this generation isn't going to be exclusive cause the PS2 had the best console in gaming history. The install base was sky-rocketing, attachment rate was also extremely high. This generation, especially with the recession, companies need to find a way to maximize sales without spending too much on the development. It's nice if you can grab a third party game exclusive for awhile or permanent, but in this gen, it's not happening. Sony has always shinned past history through their 1st party exclusives. MS can't compete with their first party. Third party is there to maximize sales, not making exclusives for consoles. Look at L4D2? The first was 360 exclusive and now it's coming to PS3. Bioshock was also exclusive for a short period of time, and came on PS3. This is a MMO, not really big FF game. Xbox had one as well. there was also a MGS game on the xbox as well with Raiden in it. So, why is everyone shocked another RAIDEN game is on xbox again? Hell, that game is STILL going to be on PS3, so who cares?
I've been a long time 360 owner, and I don't even OWN a PS3, because they are like, $40000000 dollars...But I really think Microsoft needs to start making more 1st party instead of latching on to 3rd party games... the 360 is NOWHERE close to how powerful the PS3 is, and the disk size between 360 and PS3 is huge... I want FFXIV and all those other titles that could be amazing to stay on PS3...that way, we could have better games than ever before...some things can only be done on that PS3.. 360 will always be awesome because of LIVE, and Sony can't beat that. I just wanna see what videogames have the potential to be.
"360 has a far larger install base, a much greater game attach rate, and its sales are always increasing" umm 360 has 28mil consoles ps3 has 22mil. seeing how 360 has 1 year head start its not really that big. also dont forget all the rrod 360s counted toward those 360 sales...^_^ since M$ cant make a good game they are spending all their money on games ps3 is already getting. i also doubt mgs5 will be on 360
@Stealth!: Since when was L4D2 announced for PS3? It's sill listed everywhere as PC/360 exclusive.
PS3 advantage is that it has the Cell for heavy processing and disc space. 360 has on-par graphics chip and more RAM. The PS3's graphics chip is not that strong, but the Cell is there to support it. With the 360's friendly architecture it's not that hard for the 360 to play PS3 games. It's only the games that truly use the Cell that surpass the 360, but that cast to much R+R money to deal with. In other words, the 360 and PS3 are pretty much the same, and if the 360 uses multi-disc, there is no "dumbing down" games.
Launch date is irrelevant, 360 has more than 30 mil consoles sold, PS3 a little more than 22 mil. That's 36% more at this moment in time, to devs/publishers it doesn't matter when they came out. BTW you only posted me numbers I know already, and just kinda ignored how 360 sales are constantly increasing year over year, while PS3 sales stay the same or even decline. That means the lead will continue past 36%, with PS3 never catching up And what is this about counting RROD 360s? You'd have to be the biggest retard to go buy another 360 for $300-400 when you could have MS fix it for free, or for $100 if you're out of warranty.
"Xbox 360 has a far larger install base" -> 5-6 million more is hardly a "far larger" install base, especially when you consider that several 360 consoles may be "backup" or replacement consoles.
That the 360 has more RAM, is a rumor that never seems to die down. The 360 has 512 MB RAM that be freely shared between the graphics card and the CPU. The PS3 256 MB RAM which is fixed. BUT the graphics card itself has 256 MB RAM, too, which makes the amount the same. Furthermore, the RAM of the PS3 has a WAY higher frequency which makes the RAM of the PS3 actually better than 360 ones. Xbox 360 RAM frequency: 700 MHz PS3 RAM frequency: 3,2 GHz (The frequency of the VRAM is 700 MHz, too.)
Why would anyone in their right mind consider Microstealpeoplesmoney?
for more money.... this gen sux balls devs can do better but the hardwares suck
The hardware would be good, but both Sony and Microsoft put way too little RAM in their consoles. The PS3 has only 256MB main (192MB available) and 256MB graphics. The 360 has a total of 512MB for both (don't know how much is available for devs). Another major factor is with the 360 and it's standard DVD drive. The PS3 has Blu-Ray (50GB) while the 360 only has DVD (8GB).
Master Chef you're an idiot. You actually think people would pay 100 dollar to MS to get their xbox fixed and get a refurbish one and breaks down within like 3 - 4 months. Might as well buy a new one and get the 1 year warranty and the 3 year warranty they give out for the RROD and whatever it is the other one.
