They may both be stealth-heavy games, but one of the big differences between Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction and Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 lies in the cutscenes, with the former having none at all.

According to one of the game's devs, this was a conscious decision made to improve the gamer's immersion in the story. Here's what he said to VG247:

Our objective is to keep the player involved in the story at all time. I mean, I love Metal Gear Solid. But we thought this was a more immersive way to do things. Instead of, like, getting to that thing where you put the controller down for the next 45 minutes and wait for it to be over, weÂ’re just gonna keep you in there the whole time.

Splinter Cell: Conviction (PC, Xbox 360) is tracking an October 2009 release, almost two years off from its original scheduled release date.

» ... depends on what you prefer.

i like having control at all times, but when i come across a game with decent (or better, obviously) story (Onimusha, DMC1, Metal gear), i don't mind watching a 45 video.

if however, the story sucked, and there was a long crap-video that made no sense i would atleast like to be able to screw around in the meantime the video was running (Assassins creed-style)

but i generaly don't mind videos at all.

i usualy see the games with good stories, as an interactive movie, while games like LittleBigPlanet or Devil May cry 2 is just played for the hell of it.

i don't like Splinter cell either.

Wish this would come out to the PS3 as well. Have all the other Splinter Cell on the Playstation. Don't really want to get this for the 360.

» Hmm

It's always been said that Splinter Cell has had more gameplay than story. Doesn't have anything to do with the console.

If you want to play the game: Splinter Cell

If you want to watch the game: Metal Gear Solid

i tend to like the whole "put the controller down for the next 45 minutes" deal
