E3 2009: Metal Gear Solid: Rising also on PS3, says Jack Tretton

Metal Gear Solid: Rising - Image 1

Metal Gear Solid: Rising, arguably the crown of Microsoft's E3 2009 presentation, will also be appearing on PlayStation 3 according to Sony's Jack Tretton.

Nothing definite was mentioned during the Microsoft press conference regarding exclusivity, but the game's subsequent no-show at Sony's own press conference has raised speculation that the game would be an Xbox 360 exclusive.

The press release from Konami didn't help either, as it only mentions an Xbox 360 release but without the usual "exclusive" hype.

Kotaku, however, reported earlier that the game is indeed multiplatform. Apart from the Microsoft and Sony home consoles, it's apparently also coming to PC.

Just to add to the game's multiplatform status, games journalist Geoff Keighley was also able to talk to Tretton about the possibility of Rising coming to the PS3, to which the Sony exec answered that it was also absolutely coming to the Sony console alongside the Xbox 360 version.

Hopefully we'll know more when Konami makes their E3 presentation later today.

Wow, another game that will be ruined by PC release?

No doubt the PSP MGS announced at E3 will also be on PS2 three months later.

Huh?

There was no mention of MGS: Rising to be exclusive to begin with. Ms does this all the time. They announce agmes like they would only on their console. In Germany we even have advertising on TV where theres only a Xbox logo on multiplatform games. They say "Now on Xbox 360" but they forget ",PS3 and PC"

if this was an exclusive than no doubt microsoft would have spent more than 2 minutes on it and would have thrown in the word exclusive as many times as they could, and the reason sony didn't show it is because it doesn't even have a release year or a screenshot

MGS:PO wasn't ported to PS2 so I wouldn't think that they would make it for PS2 (so too bad)

Not too stoked about this one. I thought MGS4 was amazing, but this seems like it'll end up being a DMC clone. But I really hope to be proven wrong. Can't wait for Peace Walker though.

He/she was talking about Peace Walker. There are going over 100 PS2 games released this year and they can see it as an option.

kojima spent all his time for many years creating mgs4, not only is mgs4 not possible for other consoles but it feels right on ps3. on the other hand, at least 360 and finally pc owners will get to experience a piece of the almighty kojima, although it seems he wont be working on it

it's obvious that only one logo is appearing... if it was Konami who made the advertisment, then they would show all the logos, but since the comercial is made by microsoft (in this case) they obviously only write their own logo, to hype it up for their console... if they wrote PS3... some people would say "oh... ok, it's coming for PS3 too, will buy that version instead" :D

was announced after MS guy said the next 10 are exclusives? Cause this is some deceitful way to handle things by MS.

If it were an exclusive MS would have said so approximately 109,267 times

Nothing definite was said right after the conference. People couldn't make a definite statement until they had some substantial confirmation. Just because you came to that conclusion doesn't make it fact, or old news.

Anyway, I figured when Microsoft didn't mention exclusivity that the game would be multi platform. Though not having it at the Sony conference didn't mean anything, dunno why people took that as news, Assassins Creed wasn't at MS's but was at Sony's.

Anyway, this game will be interesting. Dunno how people think multiplatform (including PC) lowers the quality of a game thats just idiot fanboy thinking. But Kojima not being involved with this game much is kind've a bad sign for the Kojima lovers. But just because the head honcho isn't involved doesn't spell bad news (look at the game boy zeldas of old or SF4 and other examples). I'll probably still get the game for PS3 but its Peace Walker I'm really looking forward to.

By no means does a PC release kill a game. By your logic, MGS1 was a failure because it was released on PC as well.

# Actually...Datnizzle 2009-06-03 14:58
The reason some PS3 owners hate multiplat games is because we like for games to make use of the space given to them on a blu-ray (ex. MGS4, infamous, Killzone2, R2). When a game goes multiplat that usually means it fits on a DVD9, that puts limits on the amount of game and in-game movies. The new MGSR will NOT have the amount of In-game video as MGS4, that may not be a bad thing to you, but it's seen as a limitation that a game designed for the PS3 would not have.

As for PC players they don't want developers dumbing down the graphics of their games because they are lazy and want to use the same graphics engines across platforms.

Sorry I was just a bit mad when I saw PC, maybe ruined wasn't the right word.

@ fearlubu: I didn't mean they would port it to PS2 immediately, but somewhere down the line after massive PSP sales like GTA: LCS/VCS + Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror.
