MAG - Image 1While a lot of people are convinced that Resistance 2's 60-player online battles will be phenomenal, that feat will soon be overshadowed by a more elaborate effort in online action.

Zipper Interactive, best known for their work on the SOCOM series, revealed a new project codenamed MAG (massive action game) for the PlayStation 3 which will have the capacity to host 256 players all at the same time.

The devs said that their upcoming game will have 256 humans divided into teams of eight (that's 32 teams) fighting free-for-all style in one giant map. That certainly sounds fun, but we know you're wondering how long you'll have to wait to set up matches.

That hasn't been answered yet, but we hope the devs do in time. Jack Tretton has gone out of his way to remind people that they're accomplishing all this in the PS3's sophomore year. What more could be in the pipeline as we go along? We'll see.

» hmmm

sound like it should be fun, hope there isnt much lag. id like to see some more screens, trailers or just info on it b4 i make too big of a decision either way

» remember

the main cause of lag is server load, not network bandwidth (on the servers end). As long as the hardware on the server is top notch (Intel > AMD), there shouldn't be an problem.

Each PS3 will only be sending a few kb/s to the server, maybe a bit more if people use voice chat but nothing substantial.

» You're right

The server only receives the positions of the players, and what they are doing, but isn't voice chat p2p ?

Also lag can happen when you're connected with Wi-fi and the signal is bad or unstable ...

Anyways I hope the game will be great, because people won't buy a *****ty game just because you can play vs 255 other players ...

» To add on what was said

If you look at the users signal in what ever room your in. Lags usually come from the host having a crappy connection. They either have issues sending or receiving pings so it makes their connection to the server glitch or lag. This happens on any system or game when people dont configure their routers to handling whats plugged in.
