E3 2008: Jack Tretton says MGS4 'impossible' on Xbox 360 due to Blu-ray |

Ó
Those of you wondering if Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be jumping on the same cross-platform bandwagon as Final Fantasy 13, have no fear - the answer is a solid and resounding "no". Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), mentioned that it would be "impossible" for other consoles to handle MGS4's technical demands.Tretton further explained that the PlayStation 3's Blu-ray features contributed to a large part of what sets the console apart from others. Speaking to the assembled press at the platform holder's conference at the E3 event, he was quoted having said this:
PS3 offers an experience for both gamers and developers no other console can match. Metal Gear Solid is not only exclusive on PS3 – it’s only possible on PS3, thanks in part to Blu-ray.
He also attributed the success of the Blu-ray format with the PS3 and mentioned that Blu-ray is now "poised to return the favor". However, this statement doesn't necessarily squash the previous rumors that the Metal Gear Solid series may still get an appearance on the Xbox Live Arcade service. We'll be sure keep our eyes open for new updates as we get them.

And yes, get off of Jack's back. What he said is true. If it was brought to 360, a LOT of content would be missing and the visuals would be downgraded massively. Not trying to sound like a fanboy, but it's the truth. Anyone researched the PS3's power would know this, and I'm not talking about normal stuff like "zomg the PS3 has 512mb of RAM total i know all lolol"

okey, lets continue:
BUT, the guy who's saying the joke (otacon) suddenly says you dont need to swiap disks because you're on the ps3 system, using a dual layer blu-ray disk.... and there's many more, but you get the idea.

FF7 for the psx, one of the best games ever. it took 3 discs, and square's reasoning behind not making it for the N64 was it would take something like 24 cartridges...
so needing to actually use a codec worth a damn, and/or splitting it up to 3-4 discs isn't impossible.
i understand the ps3 can do it better, great.
saying it is impossible is just bull*****.

Also, there would either have to be MANDATORY installs or greatly increase the amount of discs. In other words do EXACTLY what all the 360 fanboys cry like babies about in regards to BD's duplicating data. Only for a different reason. That reason being the 360 is NOT a REAL nextgen HD console. Texture maps alone would need to be duplicated on every single disc. What a pathetic waste of space.
This could have been avoid had MS included the damn HD drive to begin with. Even if HDDVD died (which it did) the game discs could still have been HDDVD until the day the 360 goes away. This is of course a "should of, would of, could of" comment but I made it to illustrate how idiotic Mr. Common Douche Bag sounds when he says the same crap about other consoles.
In the end, NONE of us here have the proper grasp on what this game does or does not need in order to run properly.

Who the hell said anything about 7.1? Your ignorance grows deeper.
"I couldn't care less, my reciever supports 5.1."
Who the hell cares about you? You attempted to make a FACTUAL statement and failed. What crappy audio equipment you have in YOUR home is irrelevant.
"The graphics capabilities of the 360 and PS3 are ABOUT EVEN."
Not 100 percent accurate. Microsoft is unable to get REAL HD video content to it's customers on disc at any great length.
"Going from uncompressed audio to compressed would make no noticable difference."
100 percent false! It might not matter on your crappy audio system but on others it does. You see, some of us have REAL HD equipment. Not like you and your fake HD console.
"MGS4 is divided into chapters with very different environments and textures. Each disc could have a different chapter and minimize duplicate data."
More ignorance. There would still be TONS of duplicated data per disc. You negated nothing here.
"The PS3 needs a new 3 minute install every chapter."
Can someone else verify this? This moron can't be trusted so I'd need a second opinion to move forward with this.
"or if you load an earlier game save, you have to wait the 3 minutes again with the PS3!"
Need more verification. Why would 3 minutes of transfer be needed for each chapter? How many chapters? This assumes existing data is removed. In the end, I'd rather the ENTIRE GAME be copied to the HDD. But that's just me. Oh, and apparently MOST 360 owners agree with me.
"Stop complaining the 360 doesn't have a HD drive."
Yes Sir!!!
"If you weren't quite as wii-tarded as everyone knows, you'd realize the HD-DVD format wasn't ready for the 360 launch."
The 360 wasn't ready for the 360 launch!!!! HDMI was, so what's your dumb excuse for that? Microsoft apologists are pathetic....and sloppy!
"Also it kept the price affordable and didn't make people pay for features they might not need."
Oh really? Seeing how the average 360 owner needs to buy TWO 360's just to stay current. Plus they'll need a THIRD console much sooner then they should have to buy on in order to continue with proper HD content all while the PS3 will have lasted through ALL of it. Unless you want most new games to come out on multi-disc?
"A mandatory HDD would have been a good idea, but the 360's games haven't been hindered by that decision."
They are now seeing as how the HDD is opening up to ALL GAMES. Sucks to be a non HDD 360 owner. Time to throw more money at MS!
Day after day, pounding you into the ground is getting easier and easier.
Let's sum up shall we?
"The XBOX 360 version would be 2-3 discs. No required 3-5 minute HDD installs."
Your BS comment here is still unknown, unverified, totally bogus, worthless and unfounded. There is ZERO evidence that points to your comment being anything near accurate.
Leave it to this idiot to insinuate someone's a wii fanboy in a PS3/360 article.
*360 fanboys and apologists need not respond. My negative 360 remarks serve only to feed this moron and piss him off.

Even if you look at one aspect and one aspect alone we can PROVE 100 percent that this comment is true. The 360 can not and will NEVER handle uncompressed audio. He's basically saying no other console can handle the game AT THE SAME EXACT quality. Had you had at least a 6th grade education you would have picked up on that.
Also, if the 360 was capable of doing so damn much then why was Halo 3 smashed down in resolution? Because it CAN NOT handle it.

Look, MCS says some really stupid stuff... He talks out of his ass, but he is right. Do any of you honestly think that MGS4 would be unable to run on a 360? That's just the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
Before I get flamed by ISO or someone--No one gives a ***** about 7.1 Bose Surround Sound. I can't afford that, and honestly, I wouldn't buy it if I could. No one gives. Shut up.
