E3 2008: Final Fantasy XIII also heading to Xbox 360, Square Enix talk roundup

Yes folks, the title you're reading above is true. Square Enix president Yoichi Wada just announced it at the Microsoft E3 conference to a frenzy of applause.

Here's a roundup of what happened during Yoichi Wada's talk:

Wada talks about the strong partnership that's been forged between Microsoft and Square Enix, then goes to talking about the upcoming RPG lineup in store for the Xbox 360.
Wada discusses Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant and Star Ocean: The Last Hope.
Infinite Undiscovery confirmed for September 2 in North America, September 5 in Europe, September 11 in Japan.
Star Ocean: The Last Hope will be out Spring 2009, with a gameplay trailer to go up on the Marketplace later.
The Last Remnant will head to Xbox 360 on November 20. It will also be heading to the PC, but no launch date has been announced yet.
Folks are given the impression that Wada is leaving, as Don Mattrick starts speaking, but Yoichi interrupts with one more announcement.
The announcement is Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360, complete with trailer.

According to all accounts, the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII will coincide with the release of the PS3 version. As to when that'll be however, it has yet to be announced. Keep checking QJ for more updates from the Microsoft E3 conference.

just saw it and i officially hate square enix and their dumb f**kin azze's...

square enix just lost all of their sony fans and ff fans as well... and now square enix is fu**d.

i most likely will not buy it anymore and now dis own square and ff from their on. (previous ones i am loyal to)......

i bet you anything it is that f**ker that left square enix for microsoft that convinced tho's *****s to multiplatform it.

First Star Ocean exclusive to Xbox 360 then Last Remanant getting Early Release and now this. Square Enix u got to stop sucking so much Microsoft *****. Obviously u wouldn't have been here if it wasn't for sony. Sony was the one that put u where u are now. All i can hope for is that u use that money microsoft gave u and do something good with it like a FF7 remake exclusively for the PS3.

To the best of my knowledge FF13 Versus is still PS3 exclusive and by the trailers it looks like its better but no way to tell till it comes out.

Hopefully if anything PS3 version wont get dumbed down because of the limit of a Dual Layer DVD. I own both and will get whichever one is better though which I am pretty sure will be the PS3 since it has taken them years to work on it for the PS3 and now is only getting ported to the Xbox 360.

I'm probably gonna get this on PS3 anyway unless there's something different about each version. I'll bet it's 4 discs or so on 360 as well.

The PS3 is still getting Final Fantasy XIII. You can still enjoy the game as you would of, if it had remained an exclusive. There is no need to get pissy over something so small. 360 owners can now enjoy the game just as much as PS3 owners can.

For the record, I do not own a 360 nor do I plan on purchasing one. (I have a PS3.)

So, stop getting all worked up just because a 360 owner will be just as happy as you.

That's the reason why the DVD format can still work for games.

Once a faster Blu-Ray drive can be implemented into consoles, all it is, is just a convience to not get out of your seat to switch discs.

if its that big of a deal to you then support the original console and get it on the ps3. if sales are significantly higher for the ps3 version then maybe XIV will stay exclusive. not buying it just hurts game sales.

square would be stupid not to bring it to the ps3 because a majority of japanese gamers have a ps3 over an xbox. i bet that more people in japan play ff than the people in america.

i'm just worried that ff13 wont have to compress its size to fit on dvd making the ps3's blueray not use to its full potential... and you know when things get squeezed into the tiny dvd rom, graphics gets worse and the gamelength shorten.

M$ knows that FFXIII was gonna be a huge success on PS3, Is obvious that it was gonna be a console seller like MGS4, and that is what M$ wants to stop. They wanna keep their install base higher than Sony so they can sell more on their console, and that way prevent Sony to grow larger. At least thats what I see their doing.

If you go to http://majornelson.com/, they have all the new major features that are in the fall update listed. Play games from hard drive, access marketplace and buy things from PC, LIVE party 8 person group chat/movie watching/picture viewing etc, and something about live game shows with real prizes.

What a sell out for Square. The main reason i bought a ps3 was for FFXIII and Square go and do this. Square went for the money and not for the fans. Why o why did they do it. If they were worried about sales then they needn't be it would have sold ps3's by the bucket loads. I used to love square but this is a absolute f**king sell out.

I had always heard that while FF was amazingly successful in japan that it's actually more popular in the states and Europe then in it's home country.

there dragon quest is the king of the rpg. Ff is just a runner up.

As understand it, Japan will be PS3 only. FFXIII is only coming to English speaking regions for the 360 version. Versus XIII is still a PS3 exclusive.

i cried at first and sh** my pants but then relized the its not a HUGE deal concidering all the other badass titles coming ps3 eclusively... sony spiced up the game rack with some sick eclusives last and this year so far,but at the end of 08,its sonys time to start shining in the spotlight.

no one can forget about the other projects kojima has up his sleeve exclusively for the ps3.

I've lost a lot of respect for Capcom and Squre Enix...Konami/kojima is the only ones who's true to their fans....F()cK3N dam I'm jaw droppingly shock....and still drueling in shock.......We lost Monster hunter 3 to the Wii and now FFX111 is multiplatform..............................M$ got their exclusives and we want ours but DAM F()cKInG Sony can't hold on to any of their exclusives........We should throw lawsuits at these money hungry companies for FALSE ADVERTISMENTS.........I tired of getting use by these F()cKing false business statements.........I believe a business needs to be truthfull to their words to not look like a crook just snatching and running off with your money.......In the end it hurts us.........the end users that has put so much investment into a console anticipating that a game company would live up to their words and and our EXPECTATIONS............................I've lost so much respect for Square Enix......they can burn in hell 4 all I care

Fanboy's just settle down. I dont see why they hate on square-enix for making the jump. From a buisness stand point it just makes good sense. Final fantasy is know world wide. If you have hardware install base of 500,000 ps3 units and 1,000,000 units for the 360 in the U.S. (I just made numbers up to make the point) it only makes sense to bring it out for the larger install base. I'm sure they would love to have had it exclusive for ps3. When the bottom line is to sell your game, your going to put it out on what ever is going to bring the money in. In the U.S. at the moment that's the 360.

I for one am happy to see it coming out for the 360.

Oh ya, one last thing for the "sellout fanboys".. if you remember you ff history you would remember that it was "only on nintendo" to begin with. Then they as you say, square sold out to sony. Not really. You all (fanboys) are pretty narrow minded i'm sure you wont see the diffrence.

so ffxiii will also be on 360...tsk tsk. from the looks of things, I think the ps3 is in trouble. i like ps3 way much better than 360 but boy oh boy...i should think carefully on what console to buy. right now, i have enough money to buy a ps3 but i think i should hold on to it for a while... but i am not telling to buy a 360... well dissidia and persona4 will get me very occupied when these games arrive....by the time i perfected these games(100%complete). then thats the time i will decide on what console to buy...hmm...

But the Nintendo to Sony jump was due to format. They could do much more on a CD than on a Cartridge. This makes no sense as Blu Ray is the superior format and PS3 has superior hardware. I'm assuming that tons of money was involved on Microsofts part.

My guess is that due to the loss in 29 mil lost in their 2008 year and the possible cutting of Agito XIII Square Enix was desperate for money so they wouldn't have to cut the project.

And of course M$ would be there to write a big check. Once again Microsoft uses it's infinite amounts of money to have its console win a console war...remember the good old days where developers actually got to pick which system they thought their game would do best on and sell it there? Guess those days are over seeings how Microsoft just pays enough to get Devil May Cry, Virtua Fighter, Assassins Creed, and every other series that's supposed to be PS3 exclusive to get a port to the 360. Seriously, anyone who thinks that the 360 is a great system and that developers are making games for it because they think it will sell better/the system is better is an oblivous fool who can't see that Microsoft ruined all chances of a fair console war. I do feel a bit betrayed by Square Enix for its decision, though it's obviously money related. However, I doubt that Final Fantasy is the series that most 360 owners care about. Especially seeings how most 360 owners are stupid Americans (I can say this because I'm an American) who can't wait for their next lousy FPS. Coming this month...Blow Lot's of Crap up without a Story to Follow 2! Now you can blow more ***** up without worrying about plot. OMG IT's SO FUN ONLINE.

As I read through these posts, I laugh because people are getting upset about stupid stuff! So what if Final Fantasy XIII is on the 360! It will not hinder the PS3 version. If need be, they can use multiple discs. It worked for Lost Odyssey, it'll work for FFXIII. Or maybe Microsoft and Square have something up their sleeves. There are many ways to get around space issues. What if there are two discs. One Install disc and then the game disc. Microsoft said you can now download the whole game onto the hard drive. I look at it this way, It's the same Microsoft that it has always been. It had tons of money when the original Xbox came out, it has a ton now. If Square wasn't convinced to make Xbox games then because of Microsoft's money, then why would they now? Everyone makes it seem like Sony has never paid for exclusives. Grand Theft Auto was going to be an Xbox only, but the now fired "Game Scouter" for Microsoft turned then down. So they were going to do a multiplatform release right from the start, but Sony paid for a contract to have first pick. Sony also had that with Square on the PSone. When Square announced that they were making Gamecube and GBA games, Sony tried to buy all of Squares stock to "seal" them, but Square refused. Plus for this generation, making games is very costly. They need to go multiplatform if they want to make money. As much as fans would hate the idea if Square took money from Microsoft, the fact is, Square needs money to operate. Every company needs money! The truth is fans are important, but the all mighty dollar (Yen in their case) is most important. Get over it! Third-Praty exclusives are not important! First-Party exclusives are the most important now. Play FFXIII on any system of your choosing! True Square fans will play Square games wherever they go!
