MMORPG.com has announced its Second Annual Awards for E3 2006. These awards are given in the following categories:

Most Surprising - the most impressive new game coming from an unexpected source
Best Booth - the company whose booth gave attendees the best experience
Best Graphics - the game with the most spectacular visual effects
Best Use of License - the game making best use of a franchise
Most Innovative Concept - for a game that may not yet have been playable, but promised a novel and unique experience
Best Expansion Pack - the EP that delivers the most for its gamers
Game of The Show - the all-around winner

Auran's Fury took the prize for most surprising game of E3. Auran is a newcomer to MMORPG, and the graphic quality and relative PvP-friendly features was definitely unexpected. Aion from NCSoft was also given an Honorable Mention in this category. As it turns out, NCSoft did win the prize for Best Booth, despite complaints about noise levels when the band Mutaytor performed music from one of their games. The game offerings were highly impressive, but what impressed the people at MMORPG.com, however, was the fact that gamers could actually meet the brains behind their favorite games. Honorable Mention went to CPC of Eve Online fame, whose demo stations and private meeting rooms made good use of a small space.

Gods And Heroes by Pertual Entertainment took the Best Graphics prize, although Fury ran it some close competition. As it was, Fury was one of several runners-up, which also included Aion, Pirates of The Burning Sea, Eve Online, and SUN.

Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning
was awarded the Best Use of License prize, with Lord Of The Rings Online getting an Honorable Mention. The Most Innovative Game of the show was Africa by Rapid Reality, which attempts to tell unique stories in a Moorish setting (Northwest Africa, ca. 1300 CE), while providing an educational experience. It will be interesting to see where this one goes in the coming months.

World Of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, with its addition of the Dranei race, took the prize for Best Expansion, with Honorable Mentions going to City Of Heroes: Manifest Destiny and Eve Online: Path to Kali.

The Grand Prize - Best of Show - went to Gods And Heroes, with stunning graphics and new squad-based combat, allowing each player to hire and command their own army (thus solving the problem of too many heroes). The runners-up were Age of Conan, Fury, Heroes' Journey, and Warhammer: Age of Reckoning.
