After many rumors about Rare games on the DS, things have finally been cleared up. Rare themselves announced the development of a very awesome game...

Diddy Kong Racing, a remake of the Nintendo 64 classic, will be making its way onto the DS late 2006. The game will be updated to support features such as the touch screen, microphone, and eight-player single card/multicard/online play. Some other features include the ability to create your own race tracks and customize vehicles.

The good news doesn't end there! A short gameplay clip has been released and can be seen above. Be sure to stay on top of this and all E3 news by checking this page out.

I thought that microsoft had exclusive rights to rare. Are they allowing rare to produce there back catalogue for other consoles and rake in the cash themselves?

no, all the rights on every material (Donkey Kong...) are with Nintendo.

I'm quite looking forward to this, although I'm disappointed it's not a full-on sequel with new tracks. This will have a hard time topping Mario Kart DS for best kart racer ever though!

# whats wrong with mario Kart?Guest 2006-05-11 04:59
This pretty much just looks like Mario Kart so far but wait and see what it has to offer.

I do like the 1-8 people Online play but as with M.K as soon as you race 4 people 1-2 people drop out. weiners

This video automatically plays in IE (and looks awful, scrunched up) and crashes my Firefox. Think you could put a link to it instead?

Microsoft seems to be letting Rare do portable games, but is steering them away from Nintendo console systems. For instance, Microsoft isn't letting Rare use Wii's virtual console system for their old games. This makes sense because Microsoft has no portable system out, but they do have the X-Box 360.

# Diddy not bad, wish it were a new gameSuperVegeta 2006-05-11 16:21
diddy kong racing was ok, a lot more bonus games than mario kart 64. also you can fly a plane in it. Also it has a story line built in. The added features are kind of cool, but i wish they would just make a new game like mario kart ds. I've already played this on the 64, i don't want to play it again.
