360 HD-DVD Add On At E3 |
Ó
Can it be that we'll finally get some solid info on the much-awaited HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360 at E3?Well, Spiegel Online had a Q&A session with regional vice president of Microsoft Chris Lewis where he Lewis pretty much said that's the case.
They asked Lewis is the HD-DVD-drive for the Xbox 360 still in the pipeline? And Lewis replied "Absolutely, yes. We'll say a little bit more about it at E3. It will give people access to HD DVD."
Spiegel wondered about the 360 not having an HDMI-Interface and if gamers won't actually be able to watch any HD-DVD movies on it since the obligatory copy protection mechanisms are missing.
Lewis' answer was cryptic, but exciting: "All I can say to you is -- there are interesting developments in the pipeline. We will make sure that the HD-DVD-peripheral device will meet all the requirements for consumers to enjoy high-definition DVD playback."
Come on, E3! We are getting hyped!

That's awesome, I would think it wouldn't be to expensive cuase the 360 would do all the work, But for licensing stuff and all that legal crap I'm guess this thing will be about 150 dollars as a add on.
You dont need to veiw hd or blue ray on hdmi, every player for both formats has been released with composite cables too, so not having hdmi connectors isn't a problem and pointless. Considering that hd players have been out for about a week or more, I'm surprised no one has figured it out yet.
for playback of 1080p I believe.
and not many have this capability...
oh my god. 67 inch 1080p samsung tvs!... well i agree, hdmi doesnt sound like much of a problem but i guess it could be possible. if the hdmi output is coming FROM the HD-DVD drive, then it could have a seperate signal from the 360s composite. 100-150 dollars sounds resonable but who knows what microsoft has up their sleeve. they've been pretty quiet and its making me anxious. i would like to see the quality difference in video and sound. 20GB and 30GB is a hell of alot of memory. guess we gotta wait till E3
the 360 had HD-DVD support for games...but i know that won't happen...
what does jump it up mean????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
It could happen, they wont officially say it's impossible. Also yes you need the hdmi for 1080p, but in america at least less then a percent of people with hdtv's can do it, mine only goes to 1080i so composite is fine. and a movie in 1080i looks so amazing, i would def. buy the add on
but would that doom the console if some games required a 100=250 addon?
what does jump it up mean???
Quote--Can it be that we'll finally get some solid info on the -->MUCH-AWAITED
What a moron....
assuming that the addon is about 120-150 usd and you bought a premium 360 for about 385 usd ( tryin to be fair), and u are considering buyig this addon which will only play ur hd-dvd and ur old dvd collections which to me is going to make the 360 complete but will not support gaming, maybe in the future. why would you foss about sony charging 450 or maybe 485usd (if its going to be that cheap) for there console were if they didnt add the blu-ray player in the ps3, that would make the 360 and ps3 almost cost the same. also consider the built in wireless router that comes standered with the rev/ps3 that too you have to buy for the 360, so after you tally up all this the 360 isnt that cheap. so why ar ppl so worried about the ps3 price tag. vecha i need ur opinion on this.
Sony(ps3) isn't giving you a choice on to what you will use...why do you need wireless networking adapter if you aren't going to be using the online features?
and down the line if you happen to get online accesss...you can buy the adapter for it later on.
Blu-ray is a different story...since they will be using it for games...but the 360 is only using dvd...and many(or a few whichever way you want to look at it) say we don't need blu-ray or hd-dvd for this gen...and that dvd is enough....
Also...some people aren't smart enough to realize that once you buy all these accesories for the 360 that it'll be the same price as the ps3
I think(if all the features come true) the ps3 may be a better deal..as far as accesseries and features go...
though...games I believe will(or should) determine the console winner for this gen...
if features win this round...i think i'll climb a clock tower and shoot myself...
sorry if grammar and spelling is *****...its 11PM over here..and i'm exausted
firstly, vecha is a n00b, sorry had to get that off my chest, secondly, i think microsoft giving a choice is a good idea.
any tv that can display 1080i can display 1080p.. my tv doesnt have hdmi and it does 1080p for my pc... it only has component and vga connectors on the back..hdmi is just a useless copy protection scheme and i will not buy a machine that requires it.. if the 360 can play hd dvd with standard component cables then it may be a very valuable hddvd player.
20 you are stupid... you cant force a mode out of your tv it doesnt have....
also to those that say theres no difference between ANALOG COMPONENT (#3 you retard saying composite) and DIGITAL HDMI cables is misinformed. i wish i wish i wish xbox would figure out a way to put on hdmi cables on the 360... i want to use my hdmi slot for it.
coax -> composite -> component -> RGB -> DVI -> HDMI
If only I could play my music DVDs on the brand new 360 w/out the silly picture delay/sync-problem I'd be happy, after all beeing the one who payed for something I can't use. The kids can do the 360-games though so why bother they tell me. They got it for free anyway.
"firstly, vecha is a n00b, sorry had to get that off my chest, secondly, i think microsoft giving a choice is a good idea.
"
That is what I was saying. Choice is good.
So you can go ***** yourself.
I thought the 360 had a HD-DVD drive? O_o
well i certainly wanna see how this looks.i was holding back on the 360 in case they did one of those revisions. like the psp with the hard drive. this is certainly exciting but i clearly remember reading about how the external HDDVD Drive wil not be used to play games. if its a addon you guys think theres a small chance for a aftermarket peripheral that could connect the drive to the PC.regardless i know you can connect your xbox to a pc monitor but i doubt that with that HDDVD drive you would be able to see it on the RGB connection.
well for ppl lik me dat lik whole sale i guess the ps3 is for me, whether i use all the features or not its nice to kno its there instead of me buyin an addon later on, but u right wit microsoft giving ppl the option to choose wat they want, which i think is good in its on way.
