RUMOR: World of Warcraft could run on iPhone and video iPod? |
Ó
iPhone World has an exclusive report regarding World of Warcraft, it seems. An anonymous tip they got from a "reliable source" mentioned that Apple's iPhone and new video iPod will be able to run World of Warcraft. The source mentioned that you'll be using the touch screen interface to play the game and that it was already demonstrated on the rumored new video iPod - said to be blessed with the same touchscreen technology that the iPhone has.
A very juicy rumor, but could it be true? From our perspective, all we can say is "Shenanigans!" If you'd recall, Blizzard has been emphasizing a keyboard and mouse as essentials to play and enjoy WoW. If the iPhone (who is said to have a very powerful ARM11 processor) or the rumored new video iPod could really run the game, who would want to play it on a very small screen?
Well, maybe some really small gamers with really small limbs... but then again, wouldn't ants have trouble paying for membership?

No, No, and No again. If it ever did that, I'd shave my butt.
LMAO waho even made up this. The iPod would never be able to run wow.
if there is any version of WoW, who would want to play it? no keyboard or mouse? total touch screen control? no. Not to mention it will probably play terrible. and what happens when your in the middle of a battle and you get a phone call.
oh whoops you died cause your girlfriend called.
If you're playing WoW you don't have a girlfriend.
yea good point. though i know a few guys who play it and have one. but unlike most people they only play it maybe 2-3 hours a day and thats it.
But yea guess i should of picked something else. only word i could think of since mine just called me lol.
All you people are ripping into this, but it is VERY possible it could happen. The iPhone will have 3 ARM11 processors, each running at 800MHz EACH. This is MORE than enough processing power to run WoW (if you think I'm wrong, look at the requirements for WoW). The Nintendo DS only runs on one ARM9, which is weaker than the ARM11, and the DS has ample 3D processing power (obviously not Desktop class, but pretty good for a handheld).
Because you are jumping to conclusions and know nothing of the iPhone, Steve Jobs works directly with the companies to make software work on the phone. You all seem to think that the full version of the game will just drag and drop on the phone, but it's obviously going to be an iPhone version of WoW.
So before you all start jumping to conclusions thinking that there's no way a phone can run WoW, do a little research.
Oh, and for the guy that said 'What if i get a phone call?', did you even read the article? Wireless will turned off when playing.
notice that i said probably play terrible. I could be wrong, hence why the word probably is there. However, even with the maximum connection speed on the iPhone it would only work good in a wi-fi area. because there is no way that WoW could run decent on EDGE. 3G yes, EDGE no.
I'm not doubting it's processing power, i very much believe it can run the game, but i dont think it will be very fun to play, slow connection speeds, you'll have to be in a wi-fi area.
and i just read the article here not the full article. Which i did just go and read.
And fine, even it it can load it, and play good with EDGE or Wi-Fi. How many people are going to want to use up all of their battery (which only lasts for 5 hours while in use) and not have the full enjoyment of playing because it's on a small screen and lack of keyboard and mouse.
And so the iphone fanboys shut up. i have nothing against the iphone, i'm just simply stating that this game cannot be played fully and be fully enjoyed on the iphone.
Same way in which Halo will never make it to the Zune like a bunch of people want.
That I will agree with.
The connection speed will suck something fierce. The requirements for WoW require, at a minimum, a 56k connection. EDGE is pretty darn close to that. If you're not in a wi-fi area, forget about it.
As for the controls, I agree as well. The small screen wouldn't really bother me, as long as they figure out a decent way to present the hotbuttons on screen. But as for touch controls, there's not much hope.
Yes, I am an iPhone fanboy, and I totally agree that WoW cannot be played to full potential on a handset. But even with minimal functionality, it'll be a neat little app to have :)
EDGE is close to 56k. 3g would help a lot but again, for WoW it pretty much comes down to wi-fi and wi-fi only. And since there just really arn't enough public wi-fi areas i could not see this taking off much.
However, i could see it being useful if say your playing it on your computer at home, and your in the middle of doing something, you have to go out somewhere, play it on your phone for a bit. but again that would require a faster GPRS data speed.
yea it would be nice, but if apple really does want to have online multiplayer games with the iphone, they should stick to very basic games like board games, cards, ect.
