Before, the Mac vs. PC debate was more interesting. But now that Macs are migrating to Intel processors, analyzing Mac hardware versus PC hardware is becoming unnecessary. But now the question has changed - it is not which is better anymore (that is so last season!), but now the question is - if you configure a PC and a Mac with identical components, which laptop will reign supreme? So to answer this mind-boggling question, two notebooks were compared. The 2 competing brands are that of the 15.4-inch MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.4 and equipped with a 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo (T2500) processor; 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM (666MHz); an ATI Mobility Radeon x1600 graphics card; and a 100GB hard drive spinning at 5,400rpm. On the other side of things, there is the Acer TravelMate 8200 running Windows XP Professional and equipped with a 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo (T2500) processor; 2GB of slightly slower DDR2 SDRAM (533MHz); an ATI Mobility Radeon x1600 graphics card; and a slightly larger 120GB hard drive spinning at 5,400rpm.
According to the review, the Acer variety is better than the MacBook Pro. This is so since the Acer variety pulled ahead with ample features and superior performance and
battery life, then sealed the deal with its lower sticker price. This will surely be a hit to consumers who place greater importance to performance rather than looks. However if you are the aesthetic type, the MacBook Pro may be for you because clearly, its strengths lie therein - from its lightweight, eye-pleasing design to its graphics-friendly display, to its elegant operating system. At the end of it all, the best judge on which laptop (with identical components) will reign supreme, will be best answered by consumers with different likes and priorities.

also, who would buy a computer that's not running rock solid UNIX, and instead an operating system based on work-arounds?

yeah, why get xp when you can have mac os? cos there's so much great stuff on mac, like quicktime and safari and ... oh wait, they're lame too...
windows xp is much more impressive than macos, windows is an os that can cope with any system you put it on, it works with almost every piece of hardware, it has unlimited freeware programs for your use if you so wish it... mac is made for just the lame non-upgradeable junk heaps that mac charge the world for, it is lame and that awful one button mouse design is possibly the most annoying thing in the world.
