Lazy Sunday Helpers: Software for Starving Students (SSS)

We know a good number of our readers are students who probably don't have the time or money to pay for all the computer programs you'll need to get through school. Heck, that even resident homebrew expert Dark_Alex is a student. We also understand that not everyone has the ability to make their own software suite from scratch.

That's why we've decided to offer some help, by informing you of something called Software for Starving Students, or SSS. If you haven't heard of it, then you're in luck, as SSS is completely free software you can use on your computers for a variety of tasks. If you have, then you're probably using Mozilla Firefox to write us some sort of scathing commentary about how QJ is filled with newbs to open source. We don't mind so much, because at least you're informing people of the wonderfully free alternatives to expensive software out in the world today.

So, what is Software for Starving Students? Well, it's a bunch of software compiled onto a handy installer that'll help students (and other computer users) save on costs by finding alternatives for commonly used software. For instance, instead of paying for Microsoft Office, you can get Windows (OpenOffice) or Apple (NeoOffice) that works just as well as the paid one, but for no cost. Whether you're a Mac user or a PC user, there's something you can definitely use there that you probably never expected to find, such as sound editors and typing trainer software.

SSS is a godsend for people who want to get the most out of their computers but can't afford to get the software they need. Besides, it keeps you from pirating stuff, and that's always a good thing. You can download it by grabbing the torrents and using your favorite torrent client, or by
