Some new footage of the upcoming PSP version of the Splinter Cell franchise hit the web this week thanks to GamersReports. Will it live up to its predecessors? Will it retain the same magnificent gameplay? One would hope so, since many of the missions are classics from earlier versions of Splinter Cell, with a few new ones thrown in for good measure.

Yeah link works fine now, I noticed it was working just after I posted yesterday.

As for 7.1 capabilities, it was publicised at the time of the PSP launch as a press release of the spec in general, and published in magazines like Edge.

a present for crazihouse and his condescending tone

This game looks awesome and all and im definitly gonna buy it but I still dont understand how they're gonna do spy vs. spy multiplayer I mean for one thing if you both have night vison and thermal vision that would be really gay, you could see eachother and it would just defeat the whole purpose of being stealthy. I just hope that they will somehow put mercenaries into the multiplayer like Pandora Tommoro and Chaos Theory on xbox live.

Link doesn't work btw.

I went and found the 2 gameplay videos on the site (a week old, incidentally) and had a look.

It's interesting: it seems to look and feel the same Splinter Cell that we're used to. Camera control could be an issue like a lot of 3D games on the PSP, in that you can't move and manipulate the camera in the same way as using two analogue sticks.

It would have the potential to be one of the more anticipated games, but I don't like the look of the use of sound. There are two sound meters on either side of the weapon info on the right hand side, so you can tell where the sound's coming from (as said by the dev in the video interview).

Doesn't sound promising to me. I thought the PSP had 7.1 sound capabilities (although few if any games have tapped into it yet). Why on earth would it need sound indicators like that?

I hope it's only needed to be relied upon in a noisy environment, in which case it could turn out to be a nice touch.

Any word on ad-hoc multiplayer? 2v2 Merc v Spy games à la Pandora Tomorrow/Chaos Theory wouldn't go unappreciated.

Ha, beaten to it by stank!

Are they doing the Spy v Spy on the PSP one too? I imagined that was only going to be the home consoles. Better than nothing, I suppose, but it really wouldn't be as fun as merc v spy, despite first-person control issues.

Umm... please indicate a source that claims the PSP has 7.1 capabilities?
