New Version Of GTA: Liberty City Stories UMD Patched Save Exploit? |
Listed in: Titles Tags: eLoader, FreePlay, JaysFreaky, rumor, savedata
Ó
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories has to be one of the most popular games for the PSP. Yet for those who still has to buy the game, a disappointing rumor is currently flowing in the netvine: a modified GTA: LCS UMD has been released and it will require a 2.60 to run it plus the savedata exploit has been patched. It all started with JaysFreaky's post on our forums. He was trying the eLoader GTA save on his PSP when the game just resumes the eLoader save where it left off. He's been tinkering with it for three hours and out of frustration asked help by posting his problem on QJ's forums. A couple of people tried to help him yet none of the offered solutions solved JayFreaky's problem.
Here is where FreePlay came in saying this was not the first time he heard of someone having a problem with a recent copy of GTA working with eLoader. This leads to the assumption that a new version of the GTA: LCS UMD has been released where the save exploit may have been patched; hence his warning, "If you don't already own the game, buy it used!!"
Well, there's only one thing to confirm these inferences. Those who recently bought the game, if you're having the same problems let us know via the comments or let JaysFreaky know that he's not alone through the forum.
*UPDATE: JaysFreak has just put up a video of the problem he's encountering. The video was made by RocafellazThug who also posted in our forums the same observations based from his own experience.

I remember the interview with sony about apple, where the mentioned, that ps3 would be placed on the market as a great multimedia computer....What a joke at all, if you look on their psp policies.
Ok its speculative to say that sony forced rockstar games to patch the game for blocking the exploit, but i think they did so....
Yeah and about the modchip... Its easy to block it with all newer psps and the next hardware revision....
If sony keeps this way, then i only can say: good bye psp....

Blocking homebrew also makes the homebrew scene bigger. We probably don't want to give up our homebrew cabapilities if a new game asks us to upgrade, so many people are less likely to buy that game. This just leads to more Isos's and stuff.
Reply
The sad side effect is, that piracy kills homebrew....cause of blocking everything...
Its like microsoft would prevent every office alternative to rub on the pc with the next update, cause more users writing on openoffice than on their own product.
Its interesting, that the "windows hater number one" brought boot camp and allow to run the homebrew called windows on their machine
S*** don´t be so rude against talented programmers, which are making your product so interesting and exciting...Homebrew advertises the psp in a good way....

This is the first time I see someone going through the process of starting his PSP till GTA UMD reaches ingame.
Those UMD load times sure are a b!tch.... LoL
The first loading screen here with my "backup" ISO takes only 3 seconds to load on 2GB SanDisk
Love live pira... err.. I mean personal backups ofcourse.

and when $ony's game department is crippled, what will become of psp owners? For us, the future looks pretty sweet. Sooner or later, they'll have to stop with the firmware updates. Then, with $ony stopping for good, the homebrew community can catch up and exploit all of the current firmwares
when $ony says "Bah, this PSP isn't making us much money anymore, let's ditch it and work on the ps4, which will cost $2000 with its 100mhz processor and intel video card

I heard something like the modchip won't even work on new PSP's, did they confirm that?

Not only the new games coming out now need the latest fw,the old games will need it too, when releasing them the second time.
The first series of games will be the platinum games....Its the evidence of the tactic.
A great deal for sony.... 2.5 6 and 7 are decrypted. The eloader is fully patched through the fw 2.71 and gta itself.
The modchip will be blocked through new hardware revisions, with little design changes in the psp´s mobo.
And the end is: no piracy, but sadly no hombrew...

$ony can shove it where the sun dont shine. After the early ($400CAD) PS2 I had quit working properly 2 days outside of warranty (and it seemed too close to have not been planned), I dont grab their stuff unless I can do whatever I want with it - which includes homebrew and fixing it without paying them more money.

If things continues, you will not even be able to download free ISOs, as developers will jump ship like they already are doing from the PS3 to the Wii.

Sony does it again!
Yep, sit back and watch this "Season" of this epic drama unfold. Who will win? The Hackers or Sony...?
Something for Wikipedia to take note of.

To the dude that is having the problem, are you sure that the save is UCUS or UCES? If you are using the Europe version, make sure to use the UCES version, not the UCUS version. This is probably why.
I'll purchase the new GTA:LCS in the next two weeks and Ill dump it to see what I can find that is different from the unpatched dump I also have.

gta, one of their best selling games, allowed homebrew to be run, but is now blocked.
a large portion of the people who bought it (such as me) bought it for homebrew.
more people are learning about this every day, and are buying gta as a result of this.
then, after finding out that the newer versions of gta are patched, they sell them on ebay, thus sony will begin to make less money as people are selling each other the copies of gta whilst sony only get the money for each UMD once.
get what im trying to say here?

there wouldn't be piracy if Sony stopped shipping any 3rd party garbage game that came out for the psp and started delivering consistent quality.

And to those people saying it does, shut up, please. Go take your halfcoked, ignorant opinions formed without knowledge, and go screw off. It does not. If anything, it served to enhance their sales. This is a fact, and why many people chose it over the DS. So you are WRONG, as most people who believe such idiotic things are.
Proof of this? Well, how's this for proof? More people like me will wise up and boycot Sony. Becuase that is exactly what I (and many others) are planning to do, due to their tactics. I will not be buying Sony products. Especially not their games. GTA will sell less, PSP will sell less, and those that are really pissed off with the stra that broke the camels back, will buy less PS3 systems as well.
So how's that Sony? You've removed at least one fourth (and up to one HALF) of the reason that people buy this game and are removing one fourth (and up to one HALF) of the reason people have been buying PSP's.
You have hurt your own sales far more than "piracy" has. And now you have to face that consequence, Sony.
P.S: Your games are 3rd rate, and your buisness practices are in the toilet. The consumer is more observant than you will ever give us credit for. I hope you enjoy your signifigant bottoming out of PSP and GTA profit from here on out, Sony.

And for you people saying "blah blah blah Soni Linux wont let you do anything blah blah blah" As I said about the PSP above, however the PS3 is completely different. It has Linux to do what you want it to do.
If you want somone to blame, blame the ISO's and the person who created the PSP-Trojan Virus.

(a product) of theirs isn't theirs any more it's yours. It was your on the day that you paid cold hard cash for it. Therefore you've earn the right (by law) to do whatever the ***** you want with it, smashing or moding it, they (the company) has no rights in preventing to do the thing you want to do with the (product) the only rights they have is to do upgrades on the product or cancel the warranty for modding it, if you belive in that kind of BS because to day thing aren't built to last, thing are built to last until the warranty expires and your forced to do two thing 1) send the product to their product sevices where there, they can screw you multiple times with Purposely defective repairs until you get tired of bleeding from the ***** from the scam and then 2) decide to by the same product again from the same the company (and i don't just mean sony!)which will start this vicious cycle all over again. Remember you have the right to do whatever you want with the products that you buy with your own money, unless you live in country where you have no rights with the products you purchase with your own money. Which in that case your screwed.
