Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories on PS2 out June 6th for $20

A release date and price for the PlayStation 2 version of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories have finally been announced. Released for $50 on the PSP, the PS2 version will be only $20 US. It will also be $20 GBP ($35 US) in the UK and 30 Euros ($37 US) in the European Union. The inflated prices for Europe will be a disappointment for those in the area, but maybe you guys are just used to getting screwed over by these companies by now... There is no official Canadian pricing, but from my experience I'd say that most stores will have it for $25 CAD with maybe Superstore having it at $20 CAD. There is no word on a price drop for the PSP version, but it would seem crazy to keep it that high after the console version is released. UMDs should be more expensive than regular DVDs, however, so that may play a part. The PS2 version will be released on 06/06/06 - interesting.

link up

I'm hoping there will be some sort of link up feature from psp- ps2(for save info, weapons and *****). I doubt it but I'm hoping. Maybe Fanjita and Ditlew and Edisoncarter will collaborate again.

Sad

I hate how developers are over charging us PSP users.

...

damn, son. thats cheap. no psp game should be more than 40.. and even thats a little much. but, sony will be sony
by - 2006-04-18 20:43:19
eee

Will they bring it out for Xbox
by - 2006-04-18 20:49:36
Ok...

#1, why want link-up? I mean, if you have this for PSP, why would you buy it for PS2 as well? o.O On another note, PSP games are too damn expensive considering the content. If only the games costs more around the average DS game prices! =\

assinine

"UMDs should be more expensive than regular DVDs, however, so that may play a part. " What kind of bulls**t logic is that. This is the thinking that has essentially killed the UMD format. If I am getting less data on a UMD than a DVD and I have no way to output it to tv, a UMD should be much cheaper than a DVD. This is where sony screwed up and yet again we see QJ apologizing for an assinine Sony marketing plan.

Judgement

I've been wary of June 6 for awhile now, didn't know GTA LCS would come out that day o.O *grabs nearest bible* I'll bet Rockstar has caught on onto our need of a GTA UMD for homebrew, and isn't hating it XD
by - 2006-04-18 22:39:28
Costs of production

The costs of printing the case, including the costs of the manual and the UMD, are probably less than a dollar. While a DVD costs almost nothing to print, a UMD shouldn't be much more expensive. It's the same materials, same process...

20 bucks, go to hell

They can screw themselves, I paid 45 bucks, and it was USED, I will download it from the web to play it in my friend's modded PS2 HA! in yourface rockstar!!!

Will there..

be any differences between the PSP and PS2 versions? Personally I don't think PS2 will be as good as PSP simply because of all the hacks available for PSP version. If they bring it out for PS2, they had better put roofs on the buildings and incorporate planes and helicopters.

$20 GBP???

What currency is that? Are we finally the 51st State??? :)
by - 2006-04-19 01:41:24
That wouldnt be cool!

What if sony had of forced a 2.01+ hack on GTA. Alotta of people would of upgraded then only to find 3mths later they can get it on the PS2 CHEAPER!!!. I would of been so fecking pist.

This is so annoying

Long ago, I decided that GTA:LCS was > than Homebrew. I made a choice that cost me alot. Now Sony and Rockstar tell confirm im an idiot. Im not buying a Rockstar product in my life again. I SWEAR. From now on, Im downloading their games. F**k Rockstar.

by - 2006-04-19 08:58:31
dfdfd

to the above poster #19 amen brother, i never buy PAL game s no matter how cheap they are, i import all my games, PAL games really are *****, if anyone wants an example, get final fantasy x PAL version, it's like watching a widescreen movie the black borders are so big, its worse than the snes days with the massive borders.
by Retman - 2006-04-19 09:19:56

by - 2006-04-19 10:25:03
canada

usually games in us that are at 20$ in canada there will be at 30$ and at walmart 25$
by - 2006-04-19 11:20:42
silly

everyone is complaining at the lower price, but if the game was released on ps2 at the same price as the psp version you would complain at that as well.... :/
by - 2006-04-19 11:21:07
Yay!

Great!!! Put it cheap so everyone can buy it, and watch how a lot of children with totally irresponsible parents (65% of the youth at least) start random shootings, carjackings, and a whole slew of other crimes...not to mention the huge rap that's gonna come out the mouths of the Anti-Videogame activists... It's just what everybody's been waiting for!! Aaaah to hell with it. I'm way to sick of this shiznit anyways... -Apoklepz.
by - 2006-04-19 11:26:31
Same Map

I think its cheaper because LCS uses the same map as the first PS2 GTA, thus its only a mission change and marketing dept may not be able to justify the inflated cost. Think of it more as an expansion pack.
by - 2006-04-19 13:02:01
outragous

why should it be cheaper than the pSP? it should be the same price for every console nommader what game it is
by - 2006-04-19 13:19:20
Should I buy it......?

I dunno if I wanna buy this or not. I've beaten it 3x already and now mainly play the game for CheatDevice. But that $20 price tag makes it tempting...... Oh, wait, I can buy GTA 3 for $4.50 at EB games, which is almost the same.
by TheDude - 2006-04-19 13:45:54
funny

Funny how everyone complains its too cheap. I expected it to be around this price. It should definetly cost more on PSP because the system is barely over a year old and you can bring it anywhere. And for #17 you really are an idiot because you didn't have to give up homebrew to play this game. You can downgrade from 2.0 very easily and enjoy all the homebrew you want. Wonder if the multiplayer is still there? It would be cool if it was online or at least system link. Maybe even have PSP Vs. Ps2 matches. Ahh wishfull thinking.
by - 2006-04-19 19:17:40
I can't afford this!!

20$ is too expensive, they should sell it for $15 with a free GTA T-shirt, toy gun and a Cap.
by - 2006-04-19 22:28:19
To number 29

Ok, I know there is a downgrader. But remember that when GTA LCS released, there was none yet. Also, I had to upgrade to 2.5, because something weird happened with my PSP. When I downloaded the 2.0 upgrade, it said that it already had it. So don't call me an idiot. I even went to SONY and they didn't know what the eff happened. They told me to ship it, and if I had done that they would've upgraded my PSP anyways. I think keeping a game that you just bought just sitting there is illogical. Who would do that. Naturally, I wanted to play it.
by Deletegmc - 2006-04-20 03:49:20
Europe

Why are europeans always screwed when it comes to game prices. We would have to pay nearly double the us price thats ridiculous. What makes the price change that much between regions
by - 2006-04-20 05:56:20
Again!!!!

once again us europeans are being screwed over by the companies involved. thanks very much!
