Ys: The Ark of Napishtim's PSP Version is Too Slow

Ys: The Ark of Napishtim

It takes too much time to load. Maybe this is the reason why it still hasn't caught up with the other games in terms of popularity. This game was released last week of February.

The game is really good given that it's a version of the Ys: The Ark of Napishtim game for PC and it follows most of the Y's series' basic elements and features. Added features of this game include exclusive mini-games,  a database of the characters in the game, and a media player allows you to view the cinema sequences with music. These all make the game worthwhile, but there is one major flaw that may have hindered the popularity of this PSP version of the Ys: The Ark of Napishtim.

It's the loading time. It takes too long to load the screens. When you walk to the other screens, it will take about 15 seconds to load the next one, and this is a big upset since this is a game you'd really like to play.

disc

This is where fair use comes into play and you load it to your memory stick like I have. Presto, no more load times.

I got the game first day

The game is really good, just the loading is long.... Maybe someone can make a fix to speed up the cpu for the game.

xD

@csfflame: you can't load the us ver. to your memstick only the jp ver. works. @anonymous coward#1: yes you can. if you use umd emu you can change the cpu speed.

BLEAHH

...I could write better reviews using a crayon stuck in my.. ear. Seriously. Closing your "essay" with the same ideas of the opening paragraph is elementary in the extreme.

bleah is a moron

Who cares how well it was written? It got the point out and that is that it takes too long to load. I love the game, but the loads are a pain.

poor Ys

I upgraded to play this and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max and it was well worth it! I do feel that the load times are a pain, especially since I own and am used to the Jap PC version. The game is still an amazing game but I don't think the load times are going to keep to many people from buying it. Yeah there will be some people that will not buy this game because of long load times, but the game is only going to be bought from people that have been Ys fans for years, or just want to try a new rpg on their psp. I wish Sony could release something for the psp that could copy the umd into a certain format to use on the MS but would also have to access the UMD just to load the game file. I mean why have a "game" folder on the psp. If people want to really see how amazingly awesome this game is go find a copy of the PC version, cause the ps2 and psp versions don't do it justice.

Ys

I own this game, and I love it. The author of this article is exaggerating a little bit. It does load whenever you enter a new "zone" so to speak, but the zones are usually 4-5 screens long and filled with enemies... It's only really a pain when you need to travel long distances. Also, since when is loading time a factor in how good a game is? It doesn't hinder gameplay, and it's a necessary thing. When you invent your own handheld with no load times on any screens ever, then you can complain. Otherwise, gtfo.

load times do suck

i say the loads are from 5-15 seconds each. what's worst is loading in town! haveing to load each home, and then reload the town when you exit the home is just bad! on the ps2 version, i can have 20-45% searched in the same time it takes to search 2 on the psp. other than that...it's ys.... some caching to the memorystick (developers should de this, cache parts of large areas, like towns, for quick access) would work wonders!

Not just between areas

The worst part isn't really the insanely long load times between zones, it's the way the game will freeze for a second or two while the UMD drive has a fit to load a picture of an item, or even to load the strangled sample of the item collection music when you open a chest. I've actually stopped playing the game (Japanese version) because it's incredibly unprofessional. Not to mention it's frzen on me a couple of times too.

Ys

What bothers me the most is the fact that people that have never played Ys before will think that this is the quality of all Ys titles. This game is still great even with the long loading times. It's not Falcom's fault since they did the PC original, it's Konami's fault. With how long this game has been held back you think they would've fixed the loading times somewhat. It's still a great game but getting in some heated action and then going off the screen to wait 10-15 seconds for it to start again ruins the pace of the game. This is still awesome to have on the go though since I don't have a laptop to play my pc version on.

more load madness

also, the game will freeze while it loads the level up animation. konami...what did you do to a good game? added 10 hours of playtime due to loading........ well, i'm playing the psp and ps2 versions at the same time...lets see which one gets beat 1st.

*sigh*

How is this even important enough to make it to anything beyond a forum? Seriously, an article focusing on the load times of one game? Even with the nice language, I think the author is just smearing this game... Load times are annoying, but that's what us Playstation people gave up for enhanced graphics and better sound!

well

well in this case the loading times do matter.. i mean when i bought it i just thought "well yeah... its bad that the loading times are so long.. but they wont effect it THAT much.." ..i mean the games still fun and all and it is a good game.. its just that it takes about 5 minutes to go somewhere that would take about 20 seconds in the other versions of the game.. the game even lags when you select an item to equip or use from the menu..

The Ever Loading Story...

Okaaaaay...this is totally unforgiveable. The game itself is excellent and fun to play but every time I move to a new area or enter another room I deal with a loading screen for 10 to 20 seconds even when it is for another area with the exact same graphics and objects. And in some areas of the game I spend less than 10 seconds in any area. I also noticed significant delays in just accessing the inventory screen. The game Legend Of Heroes: A Tear Of Vermillion has graphical similarities but does not have the same problem so this must be due to bad programming. My advice to gamers: DO NOT PURCHASE THIS GAME, DO NOT SUPPORT BAD PROGRAMMING! There are other RPGs available! And yes, I already know about running the game on a memory stick.
