SCEJ confirms end of PSP Go shipments |
Listed in: PSP Go Tags: SCEJ, Sony
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has seemingly made the PSP Go's demise official. Japanese audio visual site Phileweb has reportedly received confirmation from SCEJ that shipments and production of the handheld will not be continuing. All PSP Go sales from now on ill be limited to the units that remain in stock.
Gaming news site Andriasang also reports that SCEJ has pasted "shipment ended" notices to the PSP Go listings on the official Japanese PlayStation website. These notices can be seen in red in the lower right-hand corner of the images below.

Word of Sony halting production of the UMD-less handheld crept out earlier this week when a link to it was removed from the Sony Store Games page. Orders can still be placed for the system although it is currently out of stock. There's also no word on when stock will be replenished. Similar out of stock notices have also started popping up on the European Sony Store.
Sony has yet to say anything official about the issue. Yesterday, SCEE released a statement but did not address the PSP Go directly, instead choosing only to assure consumers that they will continue to meet demand for "the current generation of PSPs".

The buttons/controls are too small and badly placed.

They really took a leaf out of Apple's success story with the PSP, it was just the lack of practicality in the software department that killed it.
It's a brilliant piece of kit, but I'm glad it's officially dead. The value of mine should shoot right up.

PSP-3000 > PSPgo
This was an excellent move from Sony, they weren't making any profit of it, so they dropped it permanently.

I never thought about that.
A 40 gig SSD would hold everything you needed now that its cracked.
A 40 gig card would probably be as much as a second PSP.
I've got my 8 Gig'er chucked full just with the games I really need and dont have extra room for any comics or vids or stuff.

IDK why everyone thought that the controls were in a bad place, they weren't. I don't own one, but I did get my hand on one and it felt really comfortable. Like Zenshua91 said, Its a great machine but it not being able to read UMDs is what made this great machine bad.
It almost had everything that everyone wanted in the PSP (especially the internal HDD). It was smaller, but it felt right. The buttons felt much better, and where the analog was placed felt natural.

That isn't a fair comparison, I still have my Micro and love the damn thing.

Though, I would rather carry a PSP Go around.

The one critical design flaw was the battery, which they could have easily fixed.
