It looks like the trend of longtime game reviewers leaving GameSpot isn't over yet. After Gerstmann, Provo, and Navarro, another valuable GameSpot staffer has quit the gaming infosite: Ryan Davis. Davis, who worked with GameSpot for nearly eight years, was pretty much open about the reason why he left his former company, putting the blame squarely on CNet management. Here's Davis' entire comment about his resignation:

It's been almost 8 years since I started working at GameSpot, and Jeff was there for nearly all of my fondest and most memorable experiences on the job. ... Simply put, I would not be in the video game business at all were it not for Jeff Gerstmann, and I am loathe to imagine what I might be doing with my life right now without the focus I've earned from having this ridiculous job.

But now, Jeff's gone, and I'm not afraid to say that it absolutely breaks my heart. I felt the departure of Rich Gallup from the site earlier this year in my bones, but this goes deeper. Jeff was a rare constant, and this marks the end of an era for both GameSpot and myself, a fact that doesn't seem to be getting any less upsetting for me.

It's certainly apparent that Davis was hit hard with his best friend's departure. According to Ricardo Torres, GameSpot's current Editor in Chief, Davis' last day in the GameSpot offices will be on February 14, the (bloody) Valentine's Day. Torres also said that Davis opted to leave the company "so wouldn't kind of bring everybody down."

GAMESTOP is a retail store for videogames. GameSpot is a international site for game news, reviews and previews. Get the picture? Good!

» Stupid

It's called; GameSpot for the last time. Not Gamestop. Gamestop is a local retail store and online retail.

GameSpot only, ONLY specializes in game news, reviews and previews.

» Well

Well, sorry for saying stupid. It's just that you guys should be able to decern the two;

Gamestop - Local gamestore

Gamespot - International site for reviews, game updates, previews etc..

» honestly burn

no one but you cares,

and no should care.

if they do,

they need to find more important things to concern themselves with.

either find a way to have a laugh,

or move on,

anything else is a waste of time.

you had no lulz, and you had no point actually worth making, so not to be mean, but your reply was basically worthless.

Who's left at Gamespot? That Brad Shoemaker dork and that dude that looks like an ugly road whore?

by Vipre77 - 2008-02-05 00:59
» These guys should band together

Get together and start up their own small-time game site. Pull no punches. No corporate execs looming over them. It'll be their site and they can do what they want.

» this sux

since gamespot was the best place for reviews and the sort...

by Mister Common Sense - 2008-02-05 01:47
» anybody can do that

It doesn't have to be a group of paid videogame dorks. At least they refused to be sell-outs though.
