WTF?!?! PSP2 existence denied...yet again

Lest we get misunderstood, kindly let us state first that we so dig our PlayStation Portable (PSP) unit. Like most of you, we think it's more than a video game device - it's life. With that said, can we say that Sony is kind of annoying at times?

One representative from Sony Computer Entertainment UK (SCE UK) just issued this statement: "There are no immediate changes planned for PSP." Just the other day, we ran a rumor from gaming site Kotaku that the much-talked about PSP2, or whatever they want to call it, is going to be available this year.

And then after that, Managing Director Ray Maguire came out and announced that a smaller and lighter version of the handheld is indeed coming. So what's the real deal here? We say that a new and improved unit is coming. And all this hullabaloo is but a well-thought out marketing strategy.

These talks will not persist if they are not coming from anywhere, right? Besides, history dictates that most consoles get a makeover sometime after they have been launched. Even main competition Nintendo DS was transformed into this thing called DS Lite after some time. But let's not look elsewhere and keep our discussion within Sony's backyard.

The original PlayStation, PSOne, went through a number of modifications during its production run which lasted for 11 years. PS2, as great as it is, was modified, and a slim version came four years after the original version was released.

The PSP community is weighed down with these seemingly mixed and contrasting statements from Sony itself. For once, we hope that the company thinks about its fans and stop keeping them on their toes.

i know one of the R&D crew at sony corp japan and NO there isn't going to be another revamped psp for atleast the above mentioned years have passed. I can't mention names out of the fear of getting him fired, but stop the nonsense already.

yes there is 8 gig nand flash all the way up to 300gb(in development for lappies). but I didn't tell you that.

I think it's really stupid and unfair that a company would release their next console so soon. I mean the PSP isn't even 3 years old yet in Japan. Isn't it unfair to the people who bought that and are expected to splash out on another about only 2 and a half years later? Why can't everyone forget any news of PSP2 for now and embrace what you got for now. Whether they were considering it or not, Sony should definitely not be thinking about PSP2 right now. The handheld they have on the market right now is full of potential but it's not being used enough and that's a waste. At least, I don't feel so anyway. We hear about mny great features here but most of them only seem to apply to Japan like the Portable TV.

PSP2 is a big NO. Why? Because Homebrew won't exist on it, and guess what? It'll give Sony the biggest chance to kill us all off and force us to get the PSP2 to order to get newer firmwares or the ability to play the new "PSP2" UMDs.

Listen you *****s, there is a difference between a PSP2 and an updated PSP. Of course they are going to deny the PSP2, that's because it won't be here for years (if at all). The cut down PSP on the other hand is a different matter.

When they redesigned the PS1 they didn't call it the PS2 did they, they called it a PSone.

The PS2 became the PStwo when redesigned.

I suspect it will be something like PSPone or the sPSP.

I love the psp, don't get me wrong, but there are other options. I mean, just because I like the psp doesn't mean I have to dislike the ds. Anyone that says something sucks is a fanboy. So, yeah, to "Man...(unregistered)", you should get the m3 movie player. I've already ordered one on divineo.net, and should have it within the next few days. It cost me about $80 including shipping and a passme 2. But, about homebrew, it's ok, 'cuz emulating roms is easy - just patch and run a game!!! It's that easy, no custom firmwares/iso loaders needed! But yeah, unlike the PSP (again, I'm not a fanboy to either system), the commercial games are really fun (especially when played in multiplayer mode).
